Welcome to the DIS Collectors Board!
I'll try to answer some of your questions. What I can't help you with, hopefully another member can.
First of all, if the pin has a Disney copyright on the back, and is made of metal, you can trade with a CM lanyard.
Do not expect a CM to know anything about your pin, or any pin on their lanyards. While some CMs are very knowledgeable and are pin collectors themselves, most are
not. Some CMs, unfortunately, in an effort to be helpful, will make a pretense of knowing one pin from another, and actually haven't a clue.
Now, as to whether your pin is something special or not . . . I honestly do not know. Do not assume because you purchased it at a yard sale that it is valueless. If it is an older pin, that predates the popularity of pin trading, it may be rare because everyone threw theirs out!
So how do you assess it's value? Couple possibilities.
1. If you can attach a picture to your post, other members can see it and may recognize it.
2. Some member may recognize it just from your description, and respond to you.
3. You can go to pinpics.com. From the menu bar on the left, click on
Search. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and enter the key words:
Mickey Golf. The search response may find a pic of your pin. If so, click on the pic and you can read the description in the data base. This may give you some info, or maybe not. Some of the records are sketchy because the person who entered the pin did not know much about it. Regardless, if you come back to the DIS Collectors board, and add the pinpics # to your post, you will probably get more info from some members familiar with your pin.
If, in the end, the pin is not valuable, and meets the criteria I mentioned above, feel free to trade with a CM. If you decide you want to keep the pin, but still want to have something for your daughter to trade on your trip . . . Your best bet would be to stop by your local
Disney Store before you leave and pick up a few of the newly released 100 Years of Dreams pins. They only cost $4-$5 each; common pins in WDW begin at $6.50.
Hope this helps.
