I leave next Saturday for disney!!!! my boyfriend surprised me with this trip and i'm super excited to be heading back to my favorite place after 5 years. My boyfriend loves roller coasters, me....not so much! I actually went on my first coaster in WDW 5 years ago. It was big thunder mountain. i know most consider it a "baby" coaster, but i was still super nervous. Clearly i survived and would do it again. even though i was still shaking after the ride was over lol But now my boyfriend keeps saying he wants me to go on space mountain, the mine train, and Everest. We got fp+ for the mine train. I am a HUGE princess fan so I don't mine trying this one too much ;) I watched several youtube videos of space mountain, everest, and even test track. they don't seem to be bad at all... but of course it's a whole different experience than just watching a video of it.

I've had this fear of roller coasters ever since i was a kid and saw someone fall off of one and end up severely hurt. (i think they may have even died in the end) so while my fear seems silly, especially for a college girl...the fear is real, and i think i have a pretty good reason. i feel like i did pretty good at trying to over come this fear on my last trip with trying BTMR but now my bf is asking me to be even more adventurous. He tried this last trip as well but i wasn't giving in. i want to be more brave, sooo im wondering how "scary"these rides are. of course i understand it is different for everyone, just looking for some opinions. i'm really hoping to over come this fear, as i hear some of these rides can be super fun.

We loooove rollercoasters but I understand your fear.
If you can handle BTMRR you will be fine with 7DMT and Test track.
To us space mountain is about the same intensity as BTMRR but it's ''jerkyer'' and surprising because it's in the dark.
Expedition everest is much more intense, meaning it's faster and you feel the Gforce a lot more , but it's such a fun ride!

Hope you have a great trip!

i'm a psychology student, so i know these fears are learned and the only way to solve them is by "doing" from the videos i've seen the mine train and everest seemed the most calm. expect for the backwards part...so i'm a little surprised to hear how intense it can be. I think the thing that scares me about space mountain is being in the dark obviously, but also the seating. I think i would be much more comfortable if i was able to sit next to my bf instead of all by myself. thanks for your feedback :)

I am with you and have a fear of falling that seems to be getting worse with age. However, I have mentally made the choice to not it let me from not doing things (Soarin actually makes my heart race). So conquer your fears! If my little one at the age of 4 (5 for Everest I believe) can do then so can you! At 4 she went on Tower of Terror, I sucked it up as a Mom and went on. She loved it and was dragged on 8 more times that trip. By the 9th time I was numb. SM and EE are both more intense than BTMRR but at least try!

I've recently got into rollercoasters, and my first time riding Everest was last August. I've always loved riding BTMRR, but EE was much more intense (I got a killer headache when it went backwards and up- I wasn't expecting that). However, I enjoyed it. SM isn't that fast, but it's extremely dark, and you sit alone, so if that's not your thing, maybe try to avoid it.
All in all, have tons of fun! You'll enjoy your trip no matter what. Remember to take your time and take breaks! :upsidedow

I had a lifelong fear of roller coasters but my biggest anxiety was the "drop" ... of course that meant that even Splash Mountain was a difficult ride for me to even think about. I did finally ... at the age of (nearly) 50 ... decide that I was tired of holding the bags and watching others have all the fun and I faced my fears and rode the rides I had been avoiding for my entire life ... Space Mountain, Tower of Terror, Expedition Everest, Rock n Roller Coaster, Splash Mountain, etc. Had fun, and actually did RnRC three times! I still experience the sweaty palms, butterflies, etc. but enjoy the experience in the end. Good luck!

haha i'm glad i am not alone on this one. I forgot all about soarin, that one makes me nervous at times too. lol but you are absolutely right, you just have to be brave and conquer the fears. it seems like you have one brave little child on your hands. seeing little kids on these rides makes me feel even more like a big baby. haha if they can do it why can't I? EE didn't look to terrible from the videos i've seen, but I guess its much faster than it looks. thank you for giving me more motivation :)

I think my anxiety comes from the "drop" as well. I remember being on BTMRR and kept asking is it over yet? LOL it wasn't that scary and I'm glad i did it. it was actually a pretty neat ride. Maybe because we rode it in the dark. Things like splash mountain make me a little nervous but i have been on tons of those types of rides as a child so i can do that one. I just feel like a big baby but from reading some of these posts I'm glad I am not alone on this one.

I was terrified of roller coasters after my parents tricked me into riding the Matterhorn at 5. That one backfired on them because I *refused* to ride anything that had ANY possibility of being roller coaster-like until well into my teens when I finally got dragged onto BTMR. I had a panic attack on the kiddie coaster at IOA in high school and I still refuse to ride most coasters. I finally went on Space Mountain 2 years ago and actually enjoyed it. I went with a group of friends who knew I was nervous. It was almost 3am and we were the only ones on the ride. We went down the first hill and one of the guys at the back of the train started singing "It's a Small World" at the top of his lungs. I was too busy laughing and singing along to be scared after that. We sang the entire ride. Nothing is really all that scary when some nut is singing "It's a Small World" even if YOU are the nut! Give the roller coasters a try, you might like them.

EE is definitely the most coaster-y. If you know you're scared of coasters, like the ones at Six Flags, this may be pretty intense for you. I love coasters, but Space Mountain freaks me out a bit because I always feel like I'm going to hit my head on part of the scaffolding that has the "stars" on it. I know that sounds weird and it's completely unfounded, but there it is. All that being said, I say, Disney is a great place to face your fears because their maintenance is so thorough and their standards are so high. Accidents on coasters are so.rare. Freak accidents can happen absolutely anywhere. In a car, walking down the street, at the pool. You can't live in fear of things like that, because it's so so unlikely that they'll happen, and you would have to avoid everything to feel safe. Coasters are fun, and safe, just try to give them a chance! If you're super uncomfortable, skip it. Your boyfriend will understand. Just have fun!

haha sounds like you had quite an interesting experience. I really do want to give them a try next week when I am there i am just hoping I don't chicken out. i love reading everyones feed back on this situation. you guys are making me feel much better and giving me more motivation to just go with it.

I find it so interesting that EE is so intense. From youtube videos I've seen it seems like "no big deal" although it does seem to go up pretty high and I think that may make me nervous. Also my family never helped. They also taught me to be afraid of these types of rides. My brother is terrified of roller coasters and his now wife made him go on rrc. He told me it was so fast he had no time to be scared lol

Well, I am that person, who as a child at WDW was put in the lines for Space Mtn and my parents would ask another parent to "watch" me as no one in my family would ride. (Obviously "back in the day" this was more accepted, I would not do that with my kids today) As an adult, we had to take our own then 2 1/2 year old back to the World when she was tall enough as she followed in my footsteps and wanted to ride the intense rides. Our older two who could ride, mostly didn't want to, although we dragged them on a few and they ended up enjoying them. Past 2 trips have been just her (now 16) and I and you can imagine we hit all the headliners.

As for 7DMT, I agree with others, if you did ok on BTMRR, it will be fine. Very similar ride, but much smoother. There is a side to side sort of "sway" to it in parts also. As for Space, Everest and Even Rock n Roller Coaster, I say try them!! They are so quick (especially RnRC) that even if you hate it, by the time you do, it is over!

Whatever you decide, please report back and let us know how it went. Enjoy your trip!

From most intense to least of those 3 would be

3. Everest
2. Space Mountain
1. Seven Dwarfs

Some may switch Everest and Space, but the only reason would be that all of space mountain is in the complete dark, although it does not go nearly as fast as Everest even though it may seem like it. Seven Dwarfs is not nearly as intense as the other two, and I think you would enjoy iy.

I too am nervous about roller coasters especially to start with. I love test track, Sorin and splash mountain. Everest is fun but the backward motion does make your stomach tight because of the force or it did me. Space mountain I did not care for because of the Seating and jerkiness but it was not bad as far as being scared. I will say the only ride to make me scream was Tower of Terror. I will not try Rockin Rollarcoaster though I do not like being upside down. Definitely try sorin it super relaxing to me and not scary at all. Also I know you went on BTMR before but to anyone who has not been on it a word of caution let the smaller person in the car but down the lap bar. Me and hubby went on it the first year we went I let him but down the bar big mistake. I felt like I was going to fly out of the car. There was about a foot between me and the bar. I now but down the bar and am fine on that ride. I also think the fact that all the rides are heavily themed at Disney takes away some of the scariness of the coaster at least it does for me. I do not think I would ever do a coaster at say Six Flags because all there rides just like like metal and no real theming.

i've done soarin before. not a big fan of it but been on it a few times. i dont think i could do rrc but i may try the others. i just gotta keep telling myself its only a few minutes and then it will be over lol and who knows i may actually enjoy the rides.

Space Mountain still freaks me out. Not so much the ride, but I feel on a few of those drops my head will be taken off by one of the track beams above me....!

Plus not really a fan of how jerky it is.

OMG I have to join this conversation. I also have a fear of roller coasters and just reading everyone's comments is making my stomach flip!
I'm not sure where this fear came from because I rode Space mountain about 15 times when I was 13 years old and back then coaster was faster!

I took my kiddos to disney in 2013. I intentionally avoided EE. My 4 year old took me on splash mountain 4 times. It got better each time.
We are going back this year and I hope to have the courage to get back on space mountain and maybe try EE. My 70 year old mother and her friend rode EE and said it was no biggie. ha!
