Okay... so... this cute little guy in my siggie.. (my nephew).. left me a little gift in my car when i dropped him off at home LAST Sunday night... I took him to the beach and then brought him home.... I then drove home and parked my car... I didn't use my car again until Friday afternoon.. and when I did.. OMG!!! I opened the door and the most rancid smell smacked me right in the face... it seems the little tough guy pitched a bottle .. almost full... in the back of my car... well... just imagine...Milk.. Locked car.. in 100 degree heat.. for 5 days... you do the smellometer... .. I have done so many things.. baking soda.. air fresheners.. I left the window of the car open for 3 days.. and I drove over 500 miles in the car with all the windows open with the wind blowing all the smell on the highway.. (sorry if you were downwind!!) :) Soooo any clues... the smell is still lingering.. NOT as badly.. but it is definitely there... HELP!!

You may want to try taking it to one of those auto detailing places, you know the ones where they really deep clean your car?

BTW-that pic of your nephew..judging from the look on his face, your car must smell pretty bad!!!!

try using a coffee grinds, open a fresh can and put on the smell ( directly on the carpet or you can use a paper towel or in a sashel. change it daily and replace with fresh grinds, leave the car closed up and air out during changing,,,,,a friend used this to get the smell of dead mouse out if her trunk and the smell was gone in within a week. its supposed tp apsorb the smell thats why you need to keep changing the grinds with fresh ones . try that and frebreeze and oust.....

Maybe get one of those air purifires for the car, their a big penny (i mean the bionci breeze type thing) but will last for a while.> or use a frebreeze type spray.

OK, I know that this sounds completely MAD, but the same thing happened to me when DS was tiny, MIL told me to cover the area with Tea bags, I was dubious but desperate having tried all the usual solutions..... well it actually worked, it took about three days for the tea bags to absorb all the smell, but when I removed them the smell had gone :teeth: worth a try

Until the milk is out of the car, all you'll be doing is masking it. Take it to an auto detailing place and have them steam clean the upholstery. (You can't do it yourself or it will get moldy--they do it in a controlled environment)

thanks for all the replies!! I am trying the detailing thing now.. since I had to bring my car in for some work anyway! I did try Baking soda.. and that worked a little bit... but now I am waiting to see what happens after the detailing!

But thanks again!

It's a good thing he's cute, huh?

Try Odo-Ban. Works on all kinds of bad smells! Good luck!

Another helpful hint that's just going to sound weird, Vodka. We use it on the actors costumes. It takes the smell away when it evaporates.

try an open bag of charcoal a well. Just slit one side open and leave it nearthe smell, it will take out almost any smell!

OdoBan is a great product. The problem in this case is that anything that is used needs to be then "sucked" back out of the upholstery quickly or it will mold. (I had this problem in my trunk a few years ago, long story, and the only way to "fix" the problem is with professional help.)

I can back this one up. With enough vodka, I don't smell anything.

HA ha Duck, You're not supposed to drink the vodka. The stuff we use is so cheap it may burn a hole in your tongue.

3 summers ago I bought a whole watermelon at the store. Brought it home and the next day wheb we went to slice it, it had a bad spot on it.
Without cutting it, I put it in the back of my car and took it back o the grocery store.
Turning a corner, the watermelon rolled and split open! That was one nasty smell :guilty: It took a full month of trying to get the smell out ourselves until we gave up and took it to get detailed.

That melon ended up costing me $150 dollars. :earseek:

Okay.. so you won't believe this one... I have a rental car right now while my "smelly" car is being worked on... and guess what happened today??? The little darling tried it again!! LOL!! I swear he is out to get me!! he was drinking his bottle in his car seat while I was driving he and his mom home.. and after I dropped him off something told me to check the back of the car for anything they might have left.. well.. sure enough.. under one of the seats was his 1/2 full bottle!!!! He pitched it under the seats just before he was taken out of his car seat!! All I have to say is.. thank goodness I checked!! LOL!!!
