My parents are planning on joining us in Orlando this July and my Dad would love to go to WDW for 2/3 nights since he has never been w/any of the grandkids. They are Fl. residents and we booked 2 standard rooms luckily @ 119 using their discount. I hope they will not be disappointed with a poor view...:( but I really have gone way over our trip budget since WDW is a add on of 3 nights, and paying for 2 rooms is making it tough to upgrade to a preferred view. Can anyone ease my fears? Also they are 80, and I am afraid of all the corridor walking I am reading about. I also didn't think to request a bunkbed room for our kids...can you tell I WAS HOPING JUST TO GET ANYTHING AT THAT RATE? I know we will have a wonderful trip seeing it through the eyes of grandparents seeing it through the eyes of their grandkids:) but I was hoping to visualize it a bit better. Thank you!

It sounds like the WL if you mentioned a bunk bed room. If you are going during a slower time of year you may be able to get a decent view. I think there are a lot of ok standard rooms.

Check out the WL FAQ thread or ask there...of course if you're talking about the WL:) That is a really good rate, when I called for the standard rate there they were sold out (that was for later in Aug.) But, I would take a "just ok" view at the WL over any of the moderates anyday.

OOOOPS!:o I am so worried I forgot to say! Wilderness Lodge, standard room , Fl. resident rate. Thank you for alerting me to my goof!

If they are full, then you can expect to see the parking lot.

We had a parking lot view at POR and we didn't find it offensive. We did not sit and look out the window so it was no big deal for us. We spent very little time in the room anyway so the extra money is not well spent from our point of view.

The Wilderness Lodge is so beautiful that even a parking lot view isn't bad. It's not as if you are looking onto a highway like most of the Orlando hotels do. With Disney resorts you still get the resort like feel even with "lesser" views. We stayed in the concierge at the AKL last summer and loved it, however, I would not hesitate to stay there in a standard room- even one looking over the bus stop because there are so many areas within the resort to enjoy without a room view that is special.

The standard rooms at WL are the BEST of all the resorts and a bargain, though garden view at the Poly is fantastic but a lot more pricey...

Thank you all for all the terrific replies....my Mom called today and said after thinking it over the drive will be too much for them, they are not up to it with back and hip ailments:( we are all dissapointed to say the least...I know it was an add on part to our vacation, butit just felt so right! Of course now the kids STILL want to have a few days there since we will be in Orlando after all, but WL is out w/out the FL. resident rate. I was able to get POR for $114, o.k. I guess since we missed out on the spring codes on Mousesavers, are not AP holders or any other discount situation. We'll see....as I said this was not part of the original plan but would've gone in debt to be able to bring my folks to WDW...I even checked out a Limo to drive them up from Naples (4 hrs) $300 each way...but they feel they can't even handle that. Just not the right time I guess. Well, everyone's hearts were in the right place. Again thanks to all for your inout...now I know for FUTURE reference!;)
