We buy gifts each year for our godchildren. Our godson was easy, video game. But our godaughter is tough. She's 11, lives in Manhatten (so has access to alot) Parents says she loves crafts. I bought her scrapbooking stuff for her last birthday (since I scrapbook). They also said she's a size XS in clothes (but I hate to buy clothes not really knowing her tastes). I also hate buying gift cards, especially since her brother will be opening an actual gift. We usually spend around $50 on each of them.

I have only raised boys, so I am clueless! :confused3

Thanks

What about cross-stitch supplies, or a couple latch-hook kits?

I was about that age (I think) when I started really liking to do sewing-type crafts.

My Godmother had gotten me a bunch of cross-stitch supplies around that age, and still have them (the books, hoops, etc).

If they told you she was an XS, then she is probably into "teen" brands like Aeropostale, Amerbrombie & Fitch, Forever 21, Hollister & American Eagle. My 11-year old wears an XS in those brands. You can buy the clothes and include a gift receipt.

My 12yo LOVES Crafts and scrapbooks....clothes are just something she HAS to have...she doesnt' care what they look like (to the horror of my 14yo)

she's getting
Paints and a sketchbook. Stickers, crayons, colored pencils.

She's also getting some of those prefab wooden bird houses from the craft store to paint. (that was actually the only thing on her list)

Other things she's gotten in the past and loved.

Fabric paint and plain t shirts are a big hit here too. She can make her own clothes.

Beads and other simple jewelry making supplies.
Card stock so she can make her own holiday cards throughout the year (maybe do a theme so she can make birthday, Easter, Valentine, etc cards)

Friendship bracelets are still big...so embrodiery floss in a rainbow of colors is a wanted gift.

Modeling clay (I think FIMO is the brand my daughter likes....I would need to check the brands) and molds.

Oh...foam. those foam kits...where they make picture frames or holiday decorations...she LOVES those. (make sure you buy the glue though if you go that route or else the stuff falls apart:( )

My daughter was into Aeropostale, Amerbrombie, Delia's, Hollister and Bath and Body Works . She loved to do her fingernails and toenails. We also bought her an Ipod around that time. You might buy her something small with a giftcard attached. That's what I do when I'm unsure. Then, she has something to open, but can still go shopping.

Pillow Pet? They are apparently pretty BIG with that age group here. Got my 11-yo one for Christmas. (She asked for it.) According to the moms in line when I was buying it, "one isn't enough." I'm sure she'll be wanting more.:scared1:

My DD11 LOVES her origami kit that an aunt gave her for her birthday. Now she folds any scrap of paper she comes across! It came with a book and a bunch of square paper.

My dd is 11 and bead kits are huge. Michaels has a great selection to choose from. Also scarves are all the rage and you can't have too many earrings. She loves all the perfume from Aeropostale and the small bottles are only $13. PJs and furry slippers, robes, and can't have too many furry pillows on the bed. :cloud9: Girls are easy, just have fun with it!!

Our local newspaper, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, just published an article on gifts for tweens. Their recommendations:

Bling Optical Mouse
Battle Bands
Minnie Muse Stationary
Candies Bracelet Set
My Secret Circle
HOTT 2GB MP3 Player
Justin Bieber: First Step 2, Forever My Story
Uno Card Game

I would look for a pretty necklace -- maybe something silver plated with a sliver chain. You should be able to find a decent necklace for an 11 year old for $50.00.
