$$$ help for college student's parents buying books!!!

Yes, I feel the pain! I just started back to school . I need three books. These three books cost me $275.00!! And they are soft cover! And at the end of thes emester i cant even sell them back because they are also "workbooks"!

GalDisney, that's awful! Can you do the work on lined paper and sell them back at the end of the year?

I second going to the library. I took a class that required about 10 novels at $10-30 each, and I refused to pay it. I would never read them again. (Honestly, would I read "Women In Love" willingly?? I think not!) I bought some from a friend who'd taken the class the previous semester (a great way for both parties to save money!) and bought a couple at the used bookstore for $1 each. The rest I borrowed from the library. I've always hated writing in books, so I just used sticky notes on the pages where I had a comment or question about the text. Worked great!

OMG! That had to be a long semester!

I couldn't imagine, I went to a Big Ten school for undergrad, and SEC school for grad, we didn't even take our textbooks to class! I think it's called "lecture" for a reason!

My advice: Get thee to the drop/add line! In a school of any size, multiple professors teach almost every class. There's no reason to stay with an anal-retentive control freak like this! If he acts this way on the first day, it's bound to get worse as the semester progresses.

Actually it was an upper division class in my major that was only offered one semester per year, so no option but to suck it up and stick with it.

We all knew said professor was a pompous windbag going in, but the textbook thing was still a surprise... and you're both right; it was one looong, miserable course.

But I survived and am now dealing with the textbook thing all over again with my college freshman DD. She called just today to tell me she is switching her schedule around and dropping a class. My first thought: please don't let it be the class with the $100+ book that just arrived last week.
:rotfl:
