Help for a first timer?

Hi everyone,
This will be our first trip to WDW and FW. We are looking for some input on full hook-up site numbers to fit our 33' TT w/2 slides, the weather in mid-June & thoughts about getting the dining plan? We have two children ages 7 & 11. Looking forward to hearing from you seasoned veterans.

We like the 900 loop for a full hookup. It is a pet loop, but it is centrally located in our opinion!! Weather in June is HOT. You are going to love camping at Disney!!

As long as you tell them the size of your trailer and slideouts they will put you in a site that will accomodate you. We have never had an issue with any of the trailers in our family. (Everything from pop-up to 35' fifth wheel)

As far as the dining plan, we personally would not do it. We do not like to have to make ressies for meals every day. I don't want to be having fun doing something and then have to leave to eat. We eat whenever we feel like it. Heck, were on vacation, we just want to have fun!

Thanks for the replys. Since we're traveling almost 1200 miles I'm just trying to get it right. We want to get the water park option, say we go to a theme park in the morning then can we go to a water park that afternoon?

The dining plan can save you a lot of money, depending on how you eat. Adults pay around $38/day/adult for the plan and kids cost around $11/day. This includes 1 TS, 1 CS and one snack. An adult can easily spend that $38 in a single table service meal, then the counter service and snack are "free." If you are not a big eater, or don't want to make resservation, it may not be for you, but if you like to enjoy your supper, and you budget things right, it can save you some cash.

We love camping in Disney and that is what we have done for the past 30 years. The loops we like best are 700 and 600. These two loops are right in the middle. They put you at a nice distance from the Meadow Trading Post/Pool/Bike Barn. You then are not too far from Pioneer Hall/Marina/Settlement Trading Post. What is nice about loop 600 is that there is a walkway from that loop over to the campfire/ampitheater.

We stayed last time in a dog loop and we did not bring our dogs. No offense...but we did not like being in a dog loop. People were not considerate when it comes to keeping them quiet and picking up after them. If you are not bringing Fido pick a non-dog loop.

Dining Plan is great! However, when you stay at FW you tend to eat more meals at your "home". Therefore, this might not be a very good deal for your family.

June is HOT!!! HUMID!!! Purchase battery operated mini-fans before you leave (save you some $). You will stay cool .They are lifesavers! Don't forget extra batteries.

Yes, loop 700 is a preferred loop. However, we stay in loop 600 because it is a full hookup loop. 600 also is nice because of it's location to the pool, ampitheater, trading post and bus depot.

By far our favorite is 600 because it is a better deal for the location.

You should it is awesome! I can't remember the exact number of the site but when you are coming up Fort Wilderness Trail (the main road) and enter loop 600 the first campsite on the right is great!! You are really close to the bus stop but more importantly you just walk to the back of your trailer and there is the pathway to the campfire. We sit outside and can listen to the movie at night!

The only downfall is that it is a small loop and you don't have your own comfort station so you have to go to loop 800. But then again everybody shares comfort stations.

It is one of our favorites.

As fldisneymommyto2 mentioned, 600 is a Preferred Full Hook-up Loop so you will pay more compared to a Full Hook-up Loop.

700 loop is also a Pet Loop.

You can definitely do a theme park in the morn and a water park in the afternoon. The water park option on the ticket is only cost effective if you plan to do at least 2 visits to TL or BB. If you plan to visit a water park only once, it is more cost effective I think just to buy a daily H20 ticket.

One advantage of staying on property is you get a Magic Morning hour at the water parks every morning as I recall (once and a while in the evening). When we camped at FW in May, we went to BB and walked past all those people standing in line waiting for the hour to be up. We picked out a nice shady spot unhurried and rode all the big slides with short lines before the crowd came in. You might consider going early to the H20 if it fits your family

With regards to Disney Dining, it is cost effective if you are a family that eats 3 full meals every single day. I don't do DD for 2 reasons: one is all the time it takes out of our day (we do one or two nice meals per trip but not every day) and with our trailer we can eat "healthy" meals and not load up on french fries, fried chicken, and mac/cheese every time we eat....

Since you are staying at the Fort you might try HDDR at Pioneer Hall for dinner one night. Our kids' ages are close to yours and they loved the "shtick". It's corny but fun! The food is okay but it is "all-you-can-eat" ribs, chicken, corn, beans, etc. so it is a lot of food. I liked the cold beer they kept bringing to my table all-I-could-drink (if you go up-label you will have to pay but your basic Bud/Miller whatever it was was cold and good).

Finally we went in late-May into early June for a week and the weather was just getting HOT. So if you go early June it might still be pleasant; late June when the daily shower starts coming at 3pm it would be sticky.

Dude, thanks for info. I was thinking the same way about the DD plan. I like the cold beer part of pioneer hall. I'd say DAD would need a few cold ones after a long day at the park We're definitly going to look into the 1 day water park vs wp add on. Hope 3rd week of June isn't that wet, we gotta wait for baseball to be over to get to DW.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I just stayed at FW in July 06 and stayed in 600 and paid full-hookup prices. This is always the loop we stay in.

How do you guys keep track of which loops are which?

Morning extra magic hour for the water parks is awesome! Our kids, 3 & 6, love the water parks. Another good time to go is late in the day when a lot of people have left.

Our kids, even the little one, really enjoyed hoop dee doo.

We did the dining plan and thought it was well worth it. We camped the week before Disney at the beach and just did not want to cook at the World (except breakfast)! If you run the numbers using the menus online at allearsnet or here on the DIS, you can see that it is often cost effective even if you just eat 1 table service meal a day. $39 per person includes tax & tip. You get 1TS, 1 counter service, and a snack, which can be almost any food/drink item with a value of up to $4.

We didn't eat any mac n cheese, but I saw a lot of chicken fingers (DD is fussy). However DS got to eat shrimp several times, which was nice, and we all ate a variety of things at Boma. It doesn't have to be unhealthy unless you want it to be.

For kids it's a great deal. For your older one, I think it's adult price for the meal plan, so you'll have to take a hard look at the menus.
