I am planning our family's first disney world trip in March and need some advice (yes, spring break, but I'm a teacher, no choice!) We plan to be at DHS for EMH morning rope drop and I want to know which attractions I should do right away. I plan on riding standby Toy Story Mania first thing, but then should I do ToT or star tours? Standby or fast pass? :confused3

I'm trying to follow touringplans DHS plan, but emh throws it a bit off!
Please chime in, all you disney veterans out there!

Toy Story Mania first, then Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (if it interests you), then ToT, then Star Tours. Get FP for any where the standby line is too long for your taste.

Be there at rope drop, this is crucial for dhs.
Go to TSMM immediately, go as fast as you can. Get fast passes straight away, then join the standby queue. You will want to do this ride twice, this is the only way you can do this. We normally have one person get fast passes, the other join queue for ride. The fast pass line moves fast and the person getting tickets can easily catch up with people in queue.
Ecause you get TSMM fast passes early you don't have to wait long to get your next fast pass, maximum two hours - note the new fast pass system maybe operating by the time you arrive.
When you can get new fast pass get one for Rockin roller coaster or ToT whichever you want to do.
After TSMM head over to star tours and you will be able to do it 3 or 4 times before the queue gets out of control. If your daughter wants to do jedi training you can also register at this time. By the time you have done this your TSMM fast pass should be ready or there maybe time for one other ride in there suggest little mermaid early if possible.
After this do all the other rides and shows you are interested, apart from RRC and ToT and little mermaid the queues are fine.

If it were me I'd run to TSM as soon as the park opens.
I would get fast passes for ST and in the standby line for ToT. Every time I've been there I've been stuck in a HUGE line for ST and the ToT hasn't been quite as bad. I think the queue line is a more interesting/bearable line to stand in at ToT, too.

Thank you! I haven't totally decided the plan but your advice helps a lot! How long does it take to run (sorry disney, quickly walk) between all of these rides? We will have our twin 6 year olds to prod along too!

Figure 5-7 minutes TSM to R'n'RC

Under one minute between R'n'RC and ToT.

Thanks for the satellite maps! They give it way more context than the disney maps!

Yup.

The Disney "cartoony" maps are very fun, but they just don't supply you with enough true relationships of distance and relative locations.

BTW, I just noticed that I need to revise my DHS maps to drop "Narnia" exhibit and change to the "Capt. Jack" exhibit.

Reminding OP that arriving for RD means getting there well before the announced opening time. I arrived at the park (by car) 30 minutes before opening (not an EMH morning), and by the time I got through security and waited in queue at the gates it was the regular opening time. I would aim for arriving at the park 45 minutes before opening time. Maybe since it will be EMH it won't be as big of a problem, but if it's spring break week that will make it more important.

Touring plans' customizable touring plans allows you to account for EMH. If you are using one of their pre-made touring plans, I don't see why EMH would "throw it off" - just do everything an hour earlier, then you'll have time to do more.

account for EMH...
I don't see why EMH would "throw it off" - just do everything an hour earlier...

That would only work for the attractions that are actually open for AM EMH.

That may (or may not) work out at all of the parks.

It will give you a good starting point, at least.

Exactly. The 2nd and 3rd rides in the customized plan aren't even open yet during EMH.
