I was browsing through the site and saw all this info on ADR (advance disney reservations, right?) And the more I read the more it seemed that I need to make reservations if we plan to eat at any restaurant. Is this true?

And if it is, how do I go about doing this. Do I set a time to eat, what if I am late to a restaurant? how do I know where to make reservations?

I have been checking menus because we are vegan and I know many times you can request special menu but I thought i could do this that day...

Aaaaahhhh! So much to know, so little time!

Please, please, please, share any info with me about dining at Disney. I'm still checking around for as much info as i can get but your help would be great!

We are going to MK, MGM, AK, and Epcott during our stay

Thank you!

First, decide which restaurants you need to go to. I do not recommend going to WDW without reservations, trust me, you won't get in anywhere. Call 1-407-WDW-DINE. The process is easy, and if you've never done it before, they'll help you. You just tell them what restaurant, what day, and what time you're aiming for. If your trip is within the next 3 months, it's going to be harder to get the reservations and times you want. Good luck!

It's not in a park, but Boma (at AKL) is great for vegans. Just let the chef know.

When you are making reservations, have a note put on the reservation that you're vegan. (Everywhere, not just Boma)

If you try walking up to Boma you will probably find waits in excess of an hour, so it's best to have a reservation.

We are going in less than 6 weeks.

Here I was all relaxed because I thought we had it all done. tickets bought, rides decided on, which shows to see, what parks we are going to and what days we will be there. And now I'm stressing....

I'd suggest trying to make reservations today then. The sooner the better. You'll still be able to make reservations, but it will be harder to find the times that you want.

Take a look here for info on Vegetarian dining (Not the same as Vegan, I know, but it will probably point you in the right direction) http://www.allears.net/din/veg_strat.htm

And don't stress. Remember: as much as people here tend to plan, plan, plan--- many of the other people going to Disney have never heard of an ADR.

Take a look at the options, and make your ADRs. Come up with a complete list of restaurants you think you would like. Then call and try for your number 1 choice-- and give the CM lots of options as to date and meal. Then work down the list of your favorites. (Think about doing lunches instead of dinners; I bet they're easier to book!) Or plan to eat mid-afternoon.

With some patience and luck, this will work!! But first take a deep breath!

nothing to stress over, only dinner reservations. There will be availability.

Yeah, don't stress. You might not be able to get into the very popular places but there are sooooooo many other restaurants to choose from. Don't forget that there are some excellent resort restaurants as well. Two places to look at if you really can't get anything else are the Grand Floridian Cafe for a Magic Kingdom day and the Captain's Grill for an Epcot day. At Epcot, try the Biergarten. And don't forget that lunches are just as good at Disney World as dinners so don't just look at the evening meals. A late lunch is very nice and peaceful.

I'm going next month and haven't even decided where we are eating. I'm not really worried about it. We'll get in somewhere.

You asked about what happens if you don't show up or are late. If you are late, get there as soon as possible but don't stress. The reservation will be held for fifteen minutes but if you are later, they will get you in as soon as they can. If you don't show up at all, there's no penalty unless you were asked to give a credit card for the reservation. And that's only for some top end places.

I've been ti Disney World about fifty times and I've never gone hungry.

Keep in mind you only need reservations for what are called TS restaurants ie. those with wait staff. If you are eating at places like Columbia Harbour House, The Land in Epcot, etc. those are walk up counter service places and ADRs are not needed.
