When I booked our trip thru Disney I got the best rate at the time thru American Airlines ($770 for all 4 of us). Now SW has it for $60 one way/per person on the same days and about the same times. My vacation is still 60 days away, can I cancel the air portion of my reservation without penalty? How does the ME work since SW isn't on the list? I'm trying to decide if it's worth the hassle. I know $200+ is a lot of money but is it worth the trouble to switch it all around? And our flight right now leaves at 4:00 pm so we were going to leave our stuff at the hotel until we were ready to go to the airport, I'm guessing that since SW isn't an ME company we can't do that? :confused3

Thanks guys!!!!

If you haven't already paid for your air tickets, you should be able to cancel that portion without penalty. Call and ask. When you use DW, are you refuring to Disney's CRO? This is what I would do:

1. Call Disney to see if you can cancel the air without penalty. Don't cancel yet. Maybe they can match the rate.
2. Call SW and see if you can get all your seats at the price you want for your dates. If you can and Disney wasn't able to match their rate, book and pay for your new flights.
3. Call Disney back and cancel your air through them.
4. Then call the ME people and update them with your new travel plans. It won't effect your transportation only your ability to check in with the airline through WDW.

I'm sure your flights have already been booked and paid for. If you paid for a full fare coach tkt then you can cancel without penalty from airline, but Disney might charge service fee. If you have discounted tkt. which I'm sure you do, then you cannot cancel. AA will hold the value of your tkt for 1 yr., then when you go to use it, you will be charged a service fee $50 to $100. per tkt. Personally, I would just keep what you have. It's not worth the hassle. Since you didn't book the flights yourself, not sure what charge Disney might also add for cancelling.
I also agree, if tkts haven't been paid for you should be able to cancel. I'd call and see.

I thought you had up until 45 days out to cancel with Disney? So are you saying if you book with Disney you don't really have until 45 days out to cancel, if you have your flight booked with your trip with Disney?

Packages are refundable up until 45 days or final payment but not the air...if it is non refundable air.

Air that is paid in full at time of booking with Disney is non refundable air.....if you cancel the air it will be $100 or more per person. This is just an example:

Delta Air Lines Non Refundable

The airfare you have selected is 100% non-refundable Payment for your airfare is due at time of booking Tickets will be issued within 24 hours of booking Change Fee for Non-refundable tickets is $100-$125 plus any additional cost for a new ticket Changes, if allowed, must be made and ticketed prior to original departure date Once air tickets are issued, name changes are not permitted Reservations are non-transferable

This is copied from the reservation site.

If you buy bulk air it can be cancelled before final payment is made.

Thanks guys! I did make the final payment already (I felt like the trip was more real that way, KWIM?) Now I see I should have waited. Oh well, just don't tell my DH :rotfl2:

Note if you do cancel, you can often still have the money on account with the airlines for a specified amount of time. So if you know you will be using AA again soon, you might consider that.

For SW, ME won't check your bags on the way back. They'll take you to the airport, but you'll have to check your own luggage.

But you do still have to pay the cancellation/change fee which is pretty hefty!

at under $200 per person, your airfare was almost certainly not refundable, and you probably had to pay for it at deposit time. Nothing you can do.

On the bright side, $200pp doesn't sound like a horrible fare from your location, so you didn't get the best deal you could have, but you didn't get a bad deal, either.
