We're building a new home, and DD's bedroom was originally going to be pink walls with a purple border and her attached bathroom was going to be purple walls with a pink border. HOWEVER, I went to a friend's house today, and she had painted the entire room, walls and ceiling in pink. It was GORGEOUS!!! So, still having to use the pink and purple because her bedding is purple, and her shower curtain is pink - they're already bought. So, here's my choices - what do you think? I'm using Behr paints and I've been playing around with their color selector and virtually painting the rooms. I really like all three. ????

1) pink walls and pink ceiling in bedroom and purple walls and purple ceiling in bathroom

2) pink walls and purple ceiling in bedroom and purple walls and pink ceiling in bathroom

3) pink walls and pink ceiling in bedroom and then purple baseboards, crown moulding, window frame (DD LOVES THIS ONE!!!) and again the reverse in the bathroom - I'm a little nervous about painting the trim, but it's new construction, so it's all got to be painted at this point. It's just going to be a pain if she ever changes her mind having to repaint the trim too. But it does look really princessy!!

I like the sound of this one the best. :thumbsup2
2) pink walls and purple ceiling in bedroom and purple walls and pink ceiling in bathroom

I definatetly would go with the rooms and molding different colors. It adds life. Single tone rooms (especially for kids) is just too boring.

Just don't do what one lady did. I painted for a couple of years, and this lady had the idea of painting her little boy's room bright fire-engine red. I doubt that poor kid got any sleep for the next year or so.
Pink is a much more soothing color than purple (unless we're talking pastels), and I think it will have a much more comforting and quieting affect for you if you use it in your daughter's bedroom.
So my vote was pink bedroom with purple trim and purple bathroom with pink trim.

It's not Pink but you can look in my Sig at DD's Tink Room we used 4 different colors but I think it came out looking great.

Blue ceiling ,Dark Purple trim.Light green and light Purple split walls with a center boarder.

We did the Lizzie McGuire paint scheme from Behr, Pepto Pink, Dreamsicle Orange, Lime Green (actually alien green) and purple. Actually came together pretty well, she has a dormer window on one wall, plus, the room is HUGE, like 15x20. Add to that an antique iron bed (her great grandparents) painted purple and you get the picture!

I like the idea of 3 the best. It will look beautiful with all the trim painted purple.

I picked choice 3 simply because you said that was your DD's favorite. Since it would look good why not go with her choice.

How old is your daughter?
Trust me, we did our daughter in pink and purple! Great when she was 8...not so great at 15.

That is my next project! But we are NOT getting new carpet, so she has to somehow have dark pink in the color scheme!

Go with what your daughter wants. It sounds pretty, and she likes it.

Well, pink walls and ceiling with the purple trim is the winner!! I've already convinced DH even if he did look like this :sad2:

Well . . . . . I've got the same scenario going on in my head with my son's room. His colors are, yes, fire engine red and royal blue. It's either going to be his bedroom or his bathroom that will be all red. And I've already chosen the fire engine red countertop for his bathroom, so it would probably look better for the trim to be red in there which means the bedroom will end up being all red with the blue trim. We'll see . . . .

It's not Pink but you can look in my Sig at DD's Tink Room we used 4 different colors but I think it came out looking great.

Your room is adorable. I couldn't show it to DD because she'd start trying to pull that green in too. She loves Tinkerbell, and I'm already going to have to "pixie dust" the walls with that crystal paint - plus Home Depot has an adorable wall sticker (it's pretty big) of the castle that I'm going to try to incorporate somewhere, maybe above her head board.

She's 9, and I'll be thrilled if she wants it until she's 15. I figured, at best, she'd be changing her mind at 13. We're not doing carpet though, so flooring won't be an issue in the future.

And, honestly, I voted for #3 myself - just because it's what she wants. Like I said, I wasn't sure about painting the trim, but since it's got to be painted something - I may as well paint it purple as white.

Thanks all!

Just one word of warning....fire engine red is VERY hard to paint over! It'll take a lot of coats. A good friend of mine found this out!

Yup!! I totally agree - been there, done that already with DD's room when she was 4. She LOVED ladybugs!! I guess I'm just a sucker for the cutesy kid-themed rooms though and obviously didn't learn my lesson. But hopefully (probably won't happen), but he wants his room these colors because it's our local high school colors - yes, he's 5 - crazy, isn't it? But maybe it will stick all through high school. Hey - a momma can dream!!!

I like the 3rd choice also. Not so...blah. Dont stick to just one shade of the colors either. Possibly do just one wall with a wall paper print or just one wall white.(open canvas) Or do all but one wall white then do that last wall in color and you can still paint the trim a different color to match. My DD's room(we are renting but our landlord gives up free range as long as we finish what we are doing) has 2 white walls, white trim, the alcove'ish area (aka-ponyland)is all pink, and the remaining wall and alcove/closet door wall are wall papered with a striped white pink mint green paper. It sounds weird but looks really neat when you walk in. I took the paper and did the inside of the open closet on the opposite wall too (she has 2 in her room)

Or just to throw out another option, how about a lime green, pale not bright, with the pink/purple bedding?????

I just did DS's room in that fire engine red. It was what he wanted, and I figure with a primer I can paint over it if I need to.

As far as the original question, as long as you're willing to change when your DD hits teenaged years, go with it! My DD became "anti-princess" at about 12, so the purple room was a source of unhappiness. Since we were moving, she just lived with it, but her room now is white, gray and black with lots of geometric shapes. Quite the change!

Ditto this! We had our kitchen done in this color in our old house. When we went to sell - since neutral sells best - we painted over it. 4 coats of primer later, you could STILL see the red bleeding through. AWFUL.

My bathroom upstairs was navy and we had the SAME problem. We did a few coats of primer then we painted it a nice darker yellow and the navy bled through. Be VERY careful with dark colors...

We have painted over deep colors with no issues. We use the Kilz primer, one coat then 2 coats of paint, we always use 2 coats of paint and never have color bleed through.

Here's DD7's room (pink with purple trim and blue ceiling) and her sponge-painted pink and purple castle. This was painted when she was 4, and she's in no rush for a change.

Well, actually the pink and purple we're looking at are pretty bright. Basically a pepto bismol pink and a medium shade of purple.

I really like dark colors in the house. My hall bath and laundry are a dark blue. The dining room and kitchen are "roasted pepper" - it's a pretty dark, browner looking red.

The above poster is right. Put a Kilz primer on it and repaint when you're ready. It's not really that difficult to paint over. I've done it many times. The ladybug red in DD's last room took me a coat of primer and three coats of pain - not a big deal, and like I said, I like the darker colors, so it's worth it to me. I've just never messed with the trim before, and I guess that was my holdup. I guess it will work like the walls though if I ever need to paint over - put Kilz on it and start painting.
