My husband wants to take our two DDs (who will be 4 and 6 at the time) out to a meal - lunch or dinner - during our trip this July. I'm looking for something that they will enjoy that is NOT a character meal (we have enough of those booked). It can be in a park or a resort - anywhere on the property.

My girls are pretty adventurous eaters, and DH is a real foodie but is not super picky about what kind of cuisine.

I'm looking for something with a friendly atmosphere, not stuffy but nice, someplace where the girls will feel special having a big night out with Dad.

Any recommendations?
TIA!

I would say lunch at Chef De France, classy, pretty atmosphere and if you book at the right time your DD`s can get a suprise from Remy. Not a character meal just the 1 min animatronic experience:)

I second Les Chefs de France or how about 50's Prime Time cafe at DHS? That is a fun place! Or the Sci-Fi... not really nice but a fun environment!

I second the Sci Fi recommendation. The girls are young enough that they could all sit together in a car. I know when we took our children there the first time, DD was 7 and she LOVED it!

Coral Reef?

Or it might be fun just to go to Beaches and Cream and have burgers and a big sundae.

How about Dad taking them out for Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian?! I bet they'd love buying special hats to wear, and get a kick out of dad doing a tea party. (plus no characters!)

Afternoon Tea Offerings

The Grand Tea - The classic English tradition of Afternoon Tea, Grand Floridian style. We offer you a variety of tea sandwiches, scones and jam tarts, followed by your choice of our freshly baked tea pastries or English trifle, accompanied by a glass of Domaine Ste.-Michelle sparkling wine and your choice of tea. $25.50 per guest

Prince Edward's Tea - A delicious array of duck and cherry terrine, chicken and pork roulade, country pate en croute, and , and English Blue Stilton, the "King" of English cheeses. Served with marinated fresh berries, and Cumberland sauce. We then offer our delicious fresh-baked scones served with rich Devonshire cream. Your choice of our tea with a glass of our Fonseca Bin 27 Character Port. $21.00 per guest

Buckingham Palace - Our traditional tea sandwiches, scones and jam tarts complemented by fresh strawberries and cream, or a selection of freshly baked pastries, along with your choice of tea. $19.50 per guest

Sally Lunn Tea - Sally Lunn bread dates back to the 18th century where it was baked fresh, then sold on the streets of Bath England by the creator. Here at the Grand Floridian, we have carried on this tradition of this sweet yeast bread served lightly toasted with apricot preserves. This is followed by a choice of either trifle or strawberries and cream, along with your choice of tea. $13.50 per guest.

Mrs. Potts Tea - For the young tea lover in your party, we offer a variety of tea sandwiches, tuna salad, ham and cheese, peanut butter and jelly on white bread. We serve our magical dark tea (chocolate milk), followed by a choice of two pastries $10.50 per guest

Once a year, my DW lets my DD and I go on a daddy - daughter vacation with just the two of us (or maybe she just wants some alone time in the house!). :-)

Anyways, here are the places that are special for us to eat at that would fit your criteria:

* Sci-Fi
* France
* Biergarten (check the menu, but if your DD's like the food, this is a lot of fun!)
* Rainforest Cafe (the one at DAK)
* Tony's Town Square
* Rose and Crown

My first thought was also Tony's at the MK. But I also like the Beaches & Cream suggestion. Oh, or what about Narcoosees for fireworks and the Water Pageant parade .....

If a resort is in the mix I would suggest Saana at Kidani Village. The restaurant itself is very interesting, the food is delicious and the wall of windows faces the savanna. It's so much fun to be eating as a giraffe wanders by.

Oh, that tea sounds awesome. Do you know what it's listed under in the Disney reservations system? I thought it was called the Garden View Tea room but I don't see that listed. I am going to be seriously jealous.

We already have plans to try Sanaa and the SciFi. I think my 2.5yo son will like those too. We are there for 10 full days, so please pray for my waistline. :rotfl:

The first thing I thought of is the Afternoon Tea if your DH would go for it. That would be a very special Dad & Daughter event. Also thought of Chef de France, especially with one of the tables that overlook the outside. Definitely would feel special (And Remy is a bonus if he is there!)

Or Fulton's Crab House in DTD because it is on the boat. Haven't eaten there in years so I am not sure about the menu though.

I'll put in a vote for Chefs de France as well. My dad took each of my sisters and I down to Florida for Space Camp and then a few days at Disney when we were about 8.

There are two things I remember from the Disney part of the trip:

1) Riding ToT and levitating because the bar was so far above my legs, then buying a shirt that glowed in the dark to match the one my best friend had.

2) Eating at Chefs, where Dad talked to the server in French, insisted that I try escargot, and ordered the salad last because "that's the way they do it in France."

Of course, my youngest sister would tell you that her best memories of her daddy-daughter trip are eating at 50s Prime Time and joking around with the servers, and dinner at Bongos in DTD.

And I've always wanted to do Afternoon Tea... some day!

My first though was Prime Time 50's Cafe

If you're looking for a bit more "grown up" (I know when I was little it was a big deal for me to go to a grown-up restaurant) Teppan Edo. Just took my niece who is 4 to a Japanese Stake house and she *loved* it!

I'm sure where every they go they'll have a great time with dad!

It's at the Garden View Lounge, and I believe you can make ressies through Disney Dining. I've seen pics of people taking their little girls (and big girls) to this, and they would wear pretty hats and have a "proper" tea party.

Here's a link with more info and pics...

oooohhhh The Tea sounds so lovely I think if I was a little girl I would love it:lovestruc:lovestruc

Maybe one day I will have one of my own.

I love the tea suggestion! The Grand Floridian is the perfect place for a couple classy little princesses. If they prefer a traditional restaurant setting, Grand Floridian Cafe is another nice option.

I think it's sweet your husband wants to take the girls out! I hope everything goes well.

Jiko is a nice more upscale and adventurous choice. Boma is more casual with a great selection. I would go for Chefs de France. It has a great selection. It's a good mix of upscale comfort food and gormet.
