Help!! Cancelling 2 days at BCV next week-Options??

I believe I put myself in a bad situation. I booked a BCV vacation with 390 points. I have 160 per use year so 160 banked from last year, 160 from this use year and 70 borrowed from next year. I have to cut the trip short by 150 points. What are my options with these points?
I read the DVC website and I believe I have to use them in this use year(I have a June use year) but can only book a vacation 60 days or less before travel. Any chance of actually getting anything?
Also read about a 60 day rule that I am sure I am reading wrong. Something about not being able to book 60 days before your use year end.

Any help, clarification, strategies would be greatly appreciated. I plan on calling Member Services as well but based on the responses to questions on this board, the experts are here.

Thanks

Any points returned to your account will go into the Holding Account since you are cancelling within 30 days of arrival. This means they may only be used for a reservation within 60 days of when you call. In addition, they cannot be used for reservations at non-DVC options if you call after 3/31/07. They may still be used at DVC resorts after that date.

Any points returned to your account will expire on May 31, 2007 if not used by that date- whether they were banked, borrowed or current. However, you should ask MS to reallocate the points for the dates remaining in the reservation to use the banked and borrowed points first. The current points (even though they are in the "Holding Account") could still be transferred if necessary.

Good luck!

I have had a lot of success using my holding points. However, flexibility is key. When you call don't be stuck on "I have to stay at BCV" or you won't be happy. I generally find that I can get a room at SSR or OKW much easier. (That said I have reservation for Sunday night at BCV that was booked this Monday) I have also used them at the moderete hotels (I booked a reservation for a friend a year ago and she had to cancel, she told me in PLENTY of time, I just forgot to call until about two weeks prior to her scheduled visit... LOL!)

Thanks, I appreciate the responses. I did call MS and had a great representative that took his time and clearly explained the options and made recommendations.

Doc,
I asked about reallocating the points for the dates used for this vacation and he did say that did not matter. Any holding points wheather banked, borrowed or current can be transferred. I am a bit unsure based on his response and will try calling again to get a second opinion.

Thanks Again

That is my understanding of holding account points as well, that they CAN be transferred even if they WERE banked or borrowed. They are now HOLDING ACCOUNT points which are a type unto themselves.

This is handled on a case by case basis. The only time you can expect to have this option is when it is the obvious choice. Say you have points in both accounts that work for a specific reservation night but you don't have enough and need to combine them. It is not a way to bypass he home resort priority The other situation I can think of is related to Disney's rules that all points in an exchange (DCL, etc) must be in one contract. This is especially true for cruises due to the large number of points in question. As all things Disney, YMMV.
