HELP...can you name this movie from my kids description?

My 7 year old daughter keeps asking about a movie she once saw, but she doesnt know the name of it, so I dont know how to look it up, maybe someone will recognize her version of the story.

A dog belongs to a little girl and loves her very much, but the girls Grandmother gives her a stuffed bear, and the girl starts ignoring the dog to play with the bear. The dog get jealous and takes the stuffed bear and hides it. The little girl becomes VERY upset, so the dog goes to get the bear to return it to her, while he is gone to get the bear, the little girls family MOVES OUT(remember, this is a 7 year olds version of the story..Im not sure how much of this is correct!!!) The dog reunites with the girl by the end of the movie on a farm and he returns the bear to her.

Does this sound familiar to ANYONE????? Is there a way to look this up on the web for an answer?

From an old San Francisco house, the BROOKS FAMILY struggles to make ends meet. United in their love for Laney, Aussie and Ted must find their way back homea daunting task, since the Brooks family has been forced to move far from town to the farm of AUNT ZELDA (Beverly DAngelo). Ted helps Aussie learn that nothing is impossible, as long as you believe in yourself. On their journey, the two become a team of unlikely heroes. tlh....you nailed it!!! I searched most of the day trying to google this in anyway I could think of, des1954 suggested a book that she had read that sounded somewhat like it fit the outline of my kids description, and we found that the book HAD been made into a movie(and apparently a damn good one....HOMECOMING starring Anne Bancroft, sounds like a must see), but when I showed the cover art of Aussie&Ted to her....she squealed "THATS IT....thats the movie!!!"

Thanks everyone for all of your help in nailing this "Oscar winning" film for me....hey, at least its got Dean Kane in it....wait, thats not a plus at ALL is it!!! LOL

But seriously....you guys may seriously want to check out the movie Homecoming(1996)....its a family film, and sounds like an awesome movie.
