Aphids invaded my beautiful new hanging basket. I sprayed it and they are gone. I didn't see many aphids so I thought I treated it in time but after a week the plant still looks horrible. Can this plant be saved? What should I do? Oh, there are 3 colors of calibrochia (sp) plant in the basket but they are so intertwined that I don't believe I could seperate them to replant the other two.I have never had a plant not bounce back after spraying it. Or could it just be this horrible heat we have had all week. I did put the plant in the shade and kept it well watered with fertilizer. Any suggestions.

Truthfully, I've never had a planter bounce back after I've sprayed it. Outdoor plants seem to improve...but those hanging in shady areas seem to get progressively worse. It seems like the aphids don't let go as easily.

I wish I had some words of wisdom for you here. The best I can tell you (in my experience) is to ditch it before the aphids spread to other hanging plants. And then start all over.

Perhaps someone else has wiser words for pas2?

I would have marched that basket right back to the garden center or where ever you bought it. Obviously it had aphids when you bought it. do it anyway, ask for your money back because chances are all of thier plants are infested...

Update on aphid problem. I talked to the owner of the greenhouse where I bought the plant and asked them what I should do to revive it. They have a strict no return policy but since they know me and they didn't grow that particular pot themselves they offered to give me another plant. They did not want me to bring the disgusting plant back either...heck why chance infesting their healthy plants. Glad to know they have good customer service especially after all the money I have spent there the last dozen years.

Glad it worked out for you. Aphids are a pain to get rid of and spread like crazy.

I'd give the new one a light spray just to be sure before bringing it in.
