Ok. Since I lost my job, I'm feeling like a vegetable. So...I get the brilliant idea that I'm going to learn how to crochet. Yeah right. Now I feel even more stupid. I went on line and learned how to make a starting chain. Where do I go from there??? I just wanted to make a simple scarf for my daughter. Didn't think it would be too difficult. So, is there anyone who can tell me where to go from here? :(

Just a thought, Dawn, in addition to the CB here, maybe run this by the folks on the crafting board. I know there are a lot of folks who do that stuff here on the DIS. Enjoy. :)

Turn and continue back down your chain using the original chain as your loop. when you come to the end of a row you need to make one extra chain not using the previous chain and then continue on.
Was that a really, really bad explanation?

Thanks Dan, good idea (as usual);)

Amid, I still don't get it.

Just wanted to send you some luck. Hope you have a better time at it than I did. About the only thing I can crochet is a circle. At least my friends get some cute coasters.

There's a guy here on the DIS who knows how to sew...and quite well I might add.

I bet he knows how to crochet too! Ask him! :p

:teeth:

Here's a simple one:

Once you chain say 100 times, turn the hook and put it through the 3rd from the last chain and pull the thread back through with your hook. Now you will have two threads down on the hook. Now grab the thread again with your hook and pull it through the two threads on the hook. Then insert your hook into the next chain, and repeat.

Does that make sense? If not, PM me.

I know it's hard to explain without pictures

I also suggest that you might run down to your local craft store and pick up an easy beginner's crochet book. It can explain the terms, abbreviations and patterns much better and will show you pictures to get you started.

Sorry, can't help you with crochet...but if you ever need help knitting I will be more than happy to help.

Besides Disney, crocheting is my favorite thing to do. jipsy seems to have given you instructions to single crochet. And I don't think I could explain it better. I taught myself to crochet by reading it in a book. There is a book called "I can't believe I'm crocheting". It could probably help. Then you can double, treble, half double etc.

Dan, I never realized there was a craft board. I'll have to check it out thanks!

I learned how to crochet when I was 13! I used to LOVE it! Haven't done it in years but you just peaked my interest!

great! Just make sure when you get to the end of the row, chain three and THEN turn and start over in the first one.

and always remember when you get to the end of your row.....chain an extra to turn.......just do a single crochet to begin with.....it is fun and I have two baby blankets going at the same time.......I know I won't finish
