On June 5th I had my 4th umbilical hernia repair and abdominal wall rebuild/stabilization.
All of this after undergoing a hysterectomy in 2009 due to cancer.
Anyhow, I went to my 2 week post op appointment feeling well. Tired but improving.
We planned the surgery with my primary doc and surgeon so we can go on our annual Disney summer vacation which we fly out July 8th. Just few days. The docs are great, aren't they? lol
3 days ago on my left side near my ribs I started to feel full and a bit of pain. I am still swollen from the surgery however this felt different. I called the surgeons office and because they are full he told me to go to the ER for a CT scan. CT showed a Seroma (fluid filled area) near one of my incisions. You cannot tell by looking at my stomach nor are my incisions red, bruised, open, etc. ER doc says they look to be healed nicely.
I did ask the ER doc if it was safe to fly since we leave next Wednesday July 8th. He said yes that I will be just fine. He did prescribe antibiotics because they do not want anything infected. ER doc said it was not large and deep near my abdominal wall.
I just want to be sure I can fly. Has anyone flown with a seroma? I called my primary but she is closed today. I am hoping she will see my patient portal message. I will call again Monday.
I guess I am seeking reassurance. I did a google search and cannot find anything.
The ER doc suggested the trip will be good for me and help me heal quickly because I will be walking more.
