No FOOL-ing around the April 2025 W.I.S.H. Thread

TUESDAY TOPIC

I think being sick is affecting my brain... I was looking for some Walt quotes to use as inspiration for Topic Tuesday and came across this and just can't unsee it. Did any of you know this about Goofy? What a curious life story. Are there any other totally random character back stories that you know about?

I know this is a totally random non-topic for Topic Tuesday so let's expand it a bit... who is your favorite character and what is their backstory?
I have always liked Chip and Dale because they are spunky and have personality. It doesn't appear that they have much of a backstory other than that they are brothers. They originally appeared as un-named characters whose intent was to annoy Pluto.

Cinderella is my favorite. I have watched all the movies and had the book as a kid. I wore that book out. I am not sure what drew me to her though. I think we all know her background but this is what google said.

Following her mother's death, Cinderella's father married Lady Tremaine. His unexpected death led to Cinderella's mistreatment by her stepmother and stepsisters. Envious of her beauty, they took control of the estate, depleted the family wealth, and forced Cinderella to serve as a scullery maid in her own home.

I had a great day yesterday. Instead of jazzercise DH and I went for a 5k walk. I want to start doing 5k's again and lowering my time. We just walked this time. I do think I might have pulled a groin muscle so I will take it easy today. I am still going to go for a walk at lunch but just not push it. We take the dog with us and she really makes us go slow. She has to stop every so many steps to smell everything. She walks with her nose to the ground. So it will be a nice and easy walk.

This got me to wondering where the trope of evil stepmother comes from... this is what I found:

The trope of the evil stepmother has deep roots in folklore and literature, dating back centuries. One possible origin is ancient Rome, where figures like Livia Drusilla, the first Roman empress, were rumored to have engaged in foul play to secure power for their own children. This idea of a stepmother prioritizing her own offspring over her stepchildren has persisted through time.

There's a lot to unpack here.

DId not know that. This is very interesting. Things like this still happen to this day with some families.

I know that as you mention, it does happen in some families, but it also got me to thinking about how it is also a negative storyline about women in power. Like how often the birth Mother is depicted as pure and good and the Stepmother is bad because she wields power.

Woohoo... there's a lovely tree outside the dining room window. It was bare when I moved in but in the past two weeks has bloomed with red leaves which are now turning green. I've never experienced a tree at eye level like this before, it is fascinating.

Woohoo... the cold crud is slowly breaking up, but at least I'm a little bit better each day.

Woohoo... my fancy pre-vacation pedicure is tomorrow, and I my haircut is now just 10 days away. The gal I'm going to is only in town once a month and since I'm trying to grow it out, for the first time in forever I've gone two months between cuts. I'll be counting the hours till I can get it done.

Woowhoo DD has been very chatty the last few weeks adding lots of spoken words to her spoken vocabulary.

Not so woowhoo we have to apply for a zoning variance for the pool and it’s a major hassle and means the pool can’t go up until at least mid June. Please keep all fingers and toes crossed that the zoning board approves it in June

I'm thankful to be feeling better every day and boy am I ready to not be sick at all.

I'm thankful for my bougie pedicure this afternoon.

I am thankful that we have sunshine forecast thru the weekend, what a mood booster.

I feel your pain. We went through something similar with our pool and heater. The inspector was a real jerk. I hope it goes smoothly for you.

WOO HOO! Parent/Teacher Conferences are completed for this school year.
WOO HOO! Seven more weeks of school!

I am thankful that all of my conferences went well. My last conference was with a parent whose children I have taught for the past 14 years. She was my Room Mother until this year when she had to return to work. This was our final conference, and we cried the entire time. I will miss her family terribly.

The majority of kids who need summer school will be going to summer school. I have one student whose parents have not committed to summer school yet and one parent who is in denial about retention. Her DD has been absent for 91 days and is failing. Mom thinks that she can catch her up and have her ready for first grade on her own. The child doesn’t know her letters and sounds much less any sight words. We just made our third DCF referral last week. Hopefully Mom will come to her senses and allow the professionals to educate her child.
