I have booked for me and my husband to go to WDW in ten weeks. However I have recently found out my husband has a conviction for drunk and disorderly from fifteen years ago. I did not know about this prior to booking our dream holiday. Therefore I am now panicking that he may not be allowed to enter the U.S.A !! I have looked into getting a waiver visa but they take approx four or five months to get!! Any ideas, similar stories, experiences, general info, advice etc would be really appreciated!!!!
Many thanks from a worried Mrs G :confused3

Based on the large number of other threads on the subject, it would appear highly unlikely that the US has any idea about your husbands conviction, so you could just risk it......however,

Strictly speaking, as you are aware, he should apply for a visa. I don't know where you got your four or five months from, but at the current time according to the US state department website, you should be able to get a visa interview within 2 -3 weeks, and the visa should be issued within 3 days thereafter.

So if you did decide to play safe, then you should have plenty of time to get this done.

Thanks for the speedy reply!! I have receieved info from the U.S embassy (London) stating there is a 4 or 5 month (minimum) timescale for a visa waiver. Apparently they have a massive backlog and it is impossible to get one fairly soon. Where did you get your info from please?

I got the info at the US State Department

I think the info you have received would apply where the US Embassy is unable to make a decision and has to refer the case to the Dept for Homeland Security - I wouldn't imagine that a 15 year old conviction for D&D would warrant such a referral - but I'm no expert.

Mrs G,

I am a serving Police Officer and highly recommend He applies for a visa before travelling. If He got convicted in a Magistrates or Crown Court then he WILL have a CRO (crime records office) number.

Like most things in life, He may or may not get picked up in the US...

It may be worth trying the American Embassy in Belfast!

They can issue visas and waiting times there are usually shorter than in London.

Also, with cheap Ryaniar flighs etc., it can work out cheaper to get to Belfast than London, depending on where you are in the country :)

Hi Mrs G

There was a similar thread posted a few weeks ago, can't remember whether it was here or uk community, that may have some suggestions for you too. :flower:
