Help a newbie--am I too late to book for 3 weeks from now?

I was also going to suggest that you can go to Disneyland or (Costco's) website and do a mock up of a vacation and there is a list of GN hotels there. You select one and it gives you a rate...or if that hotel is booked then it gives you alternatives with a price. However these are package prices, tix + hotel, so just take that into account if you don't want a package. But it will give you an idea of what had availability as far as GN go.

Wow, I do see those available on getawaytoday. I can't totally figure the site out, though--can you do just hotel through them, or do you have to do a package? I also can't see how to choose different room types, and am a little nervous to just accept whatever double room they might put us in. Any advice there? Does anyone know the cancellation policy if you book through a site like that?

Thanks so much for the help!
Kirsten

You can book without tickets. You just have to select the "no ticket" option when it lists details. If you book through getawaytoday you are *stuck* with your package. They charge a change fee and/or a cancellation fee. I can't remember what it is - we haven't used them in over a year. If you have any questions about them, give them a call, they have super good customer service and will happily answer all of your questions. :thumbsup2

Also, you are getting a standard room - which is an NDD1 or 2 room. It is the room with the 2 doubles or 1 king. You can call the hotel after you make the ressie with GAT and sometimes upgrade - but if they are booked - you might not be able to upgrade.

I wouldn't hold out for the ent rate as it was already available at that time and then booked up.

Seems like many hotels are avail closer to the crosswalk but if the play area is a deal breaker than hojo is your place.

Spring break busy season ends on the 26th so crowds should be decent and the weather warm :) Hope you have a great trip!

That might be a good idea for me to book just the one night through the getaways site, and then put in a request and hope for the chance that we could end up keeping our same room for that last night. Would we be any better off as far as crowds go if we switched to April 28-May1st? That's definitely choice #2 for us, but if that first week in May is extra busy for some reason, it might be worth a switch.

Since I already booked the one room for two nights at a not very great rate, am I stuck with that rate for that particular reservation? I have seen some codes to at least get 15% off, and wish I'd done that when I made the reservation.

I dont think that first week in May will be any busier than the last week of April. As I said it switches back to non peak hours after April 26th so stick with the dates that work best for you! Also book that night and call the hojo up...perhaps they can make a not of it on your reservation. They will probably do all they can to make your stay great :)

As for a discount...you get 15% off if you tell them you are a member of the DIS boards! :) Or 20% off for AP holders :) Also do AAA but I am not sure if it's better than the 15%, my guess would be no.

Just a quick update to say that I called the HoJo back today to see if they had anything open up, and I talked to Jennifer (who I had read here was great to deal with, so I was really happy she was who I reached), and she totally fixed us up. We have the third night booked now, and she applied the discount code, and put in our requests for a room with updated beds, and a balcony on the second floor (is there anything else I should request?). I'm really excited that part is worked out now, and we can plan the rest of our trip.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Yeah for you. But just one question, why the 2nd floor? Did you mean to request 4th (top) floor? (assuming you have kept your original pool view room)

Oops, are there 4 floors in building 2? I thought there were two floors (I'm not sure now where I got that impression, but that's what I recall), so I said the second floor. I'll have to look into that now.

The pavilion buildings have 2 floors, those are our favorites. They are doubles but we still like them much more than we like the others. :) We like to ask for the second floor in those buildings. :) And they have been known to release more Ent Rate dates, you just have to watch the discount page to find them. :)

BTW, I meant to say that I'm glad Jennifer took care of you!!! She and Lorealle are just awesome!!!!! :)
