I have successfully uploaded pix several times from my Rebel XT until tonight (when I REALLY need to). I connect the camera to the computer but then a message box pops up telling me that another application is using the camera :crazy: What the heck am I forgetting to do?

do you have a card reader? it's much faster and much easier.

what program are you using to offload your pics? if you have installed elements or another program that is set by default to offload your pics when the camera is connected, it could be preventing you from using DPP or another program.

No card reader--just the software that came with the camera.

You could search the support database at Canon. Or I found this on the support page on the website;

"For toll-free technical support, please call 1 (800) 828-4040 during regular business hours (currently Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 midnight. EST, Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., excluding holidays"

We've been searching the Canon database but it seems that it only addresses issues with the camera connecting to the computer :confused3 The camera connects to the computer and that's it....

Mine did the same thing and I fussed and fidgited with it and never got it to work right. I ended up spending $20 and getting the card reader- it's much faster than connecting the camera to the computer and just as easy.

Let me know what Canon says.

Check the menus there is a settign for pc connection. If you are not sure which option then try to reset it to the default.

Post back if it works, or not!

Oh, also try a different USB port. With a reboot in between.
Connect the cable to the cam then the computer then turn the camera on.
Sometimes it takes quite a while for the canon software to boot up.

It finally worked after multiple tries :badpc: but I think after last night we will invest the $ in a card reader. I just talked to DH and he said someone else told him the same thing :thumbsup2

Card readers are a wonderful thing. They are cheap and work well. I have never had any of my cameras connected to my PC. Try to get one that will take multiple types of cards. You never know which kind of camera is in your future.

i think it could be a software glitch as i am having the same problem . the camera window page doesn't always open so it doesn't download... for me,it doesn't matter if i am using the camera/ computer,printer or card reader which is why i am thinking "software" and i have it set to open by default but even when i go into programs and open it it doesn't always open and never the first time), then finally after multiple tries, the camera window opens ( actually it usually is just a blank page with camera window across the top) and i can see the page behind it as it downloads( but i can't select what i want downloaded, it just downloads what ever is new). if you do go to support please post the solution...i was thinking i might have to reinstall the software.

i can download daughters kodak stuff ( different software, same hardware except the camera naturally)
