Hello

I'm from Rockwood, Ontario a little town near Guelph
and we have:

a beautiful conservation area with a lake and trails and ruins
a fantastic little bakery (yummy cookies, cakes, bread) people come from all over to it!
a very nice place to bring up children (school K-8)
close to large cities, but far enough away to feel like country
great neighbours and neighbourhoods
wonderful new fire hall! (DH is a firefighter)

great thread!!

I love that everyone finds so many wonderful things about their hometown, hope to hear a few more.

I live in Ottawa now.
Home of:
The parliament buildings
The longest skateway in the world - the Rideau Canal
Lots of great green spaces
Lots of great museums
Beavertails

I grew up in Granby, Quebec which is
part of the eastern townships which is a beautiful area with mountains and fields and farms and vinyards.
My family have lived in the eastern townships since the queen gave them land to come and settle there. I am sorry to have moved away, but language and jobs forced me to. I still consider it home though.

PEIgirl - I am curious, why is there no canned pop or beer there?

I believe it began years ago when an Island family operated the Pepsi plant so in order to protect them, the gov't banned all carbonated drinks and canned beer. We also do not have plastic pop bottles. It is really expensive to buy pop here so when most islanders go "across" they stock up on cans and 2 litres. When we see someone drinking from a can, we almost drool. lol

prices are something like this: 1.50 for a 355 ml bottle, 1.75 for 75ml bottle and about $3 for a 1.5 lt. This includes the tax and deposit. .80 deposit on a 1.5 lt.

Now they say that there would be more litter if they allowed cans but I would rather drive over a can than a bottle.

No one has posted from Saskatchewan yet, so I'll be the first...

Not a whole lot of people from Quebec in this neck of the wood so here goes!
MONTREAL
Great big city but you easily feel secure at night, bilingual (or rather multilingual), great restaurants, great nightlife, one festival follows the other during summer (Jazz, Just for laughs, etc) ...not to be missed! The Olympic stadium, the Bell Center and the Canadiens, the St-Joseph Oratory, the Mont-Royal (and it's cross), the Formula one and Cart races, the Old Port, the museums, the shopping, the women, the men, ........the joie de vivre!!!!!!!!!! God I'm missing a lot of stuff here....close to the Laurentides and the Eastern Townships and all the outdoor activities that you can imagine!

PS PhotobearSam (Samantha and Robert), I stayed two nights at your hotel (Chalets Gaudet) this summer and it was definetely a lot better that the other places I'd seen in New Brunswick until then (room and money). You guys keep it up! Loved Shediac and for those who love beaches, you will not be disappointed! Did you guys finally had a chance to do that lobster cruise?

Thanks for representing Montreal Filet1970 :wave2:. Don't forget about those long lunches on a terrasse when the weather gets warm. That's my favourite sign of spring :D

God Princess pooh! I'm trying to forget about terrrasses....we're about to say goodbye to them for about 6 months and your talk is making me want to cry and crave for a good beer (or 2, 3, etc)!:rotfl:
