Hi everyone!

My family (DH, DD1 (10 going on 21  ), DD2 (7 and pushing all her sister's buttons!) and me! Oh yeah, we also have a 10lb dog who is going to enjoy not being left behind on trips) is very new to the camping world. We just recently acquired a 30' TT, and we have decided to venture into the world of camping.

We took it on an inaugural trip to Tombstone AZ (about 90 minutes away) a couple of weeks ago, and found it to be far easier and comfortable than we thought initially, so we are very excited! BTW, Tombstone in late Jul/early Aug is very HOT!!! You would think living in AZ, we would know that! :rotfl:

Anyway back to our story...we are a military family about to be transfered from AZ to VA. DH is going to be heading east soon, but the girls and I will not be following until mid Nov due to my work commitments. The TT will be DH's "apartment" while he is in VA and we are still in AZ.

A few weeks ago, DH suggested that we (the girls, the dog and I) fly to VA rather than drive. He figured it would be worth the small cost of plane tickets to save wear and tear on both the car and mom's nerves if we fly in one day rather than drive for 5 days. :rotfl: Can I say ho much I love this man?? About 7-10 days ago, DH suggested that instead of flying to VA that we fly to Orlando and he would meet us there with the TT! After an initial NO (the story why is long, complicated and delves way too far into my psyche! ;):lmao:;) ), I decided it wouldn't be such a bad idea after all (especially after I found the $90/person 1way airfare on SW who also now takes small pets!). So we have reservations at Ft Wilderness for 14-21 Nov. The week we initially would have spent in the car driving cross country, we will now be spending at WDW (hoping to take the sting out of the move for DDs; a little bribery never hurts!). :woohoo: :woohoo:

We are very excited about this new chapter in our lives, both the new assignment and venturing into the world of camping. Any and all advice/info would be much appreciated. DH and I were saying that we could totally see ourselves RVing across the country in retirement (his goal is to hit every NASCAR race in a single season; mine is to enjoy myself and new parts of this country we haven't explored yet!), but that is still many years (and hopefully a vehicle upgrade) in the future.

Anyway, that is our story. :wave2: :wave2:

You are welcome for our service (DH is active and I am reserves). We love what we do and could not imagine our life other than in the AF! DH is a wonderful man, and I am thankful every day that he came into my life!

As far as the fishing thing...wrong sister!!! I have a younger sister who adores fishing (in fact I think one of her screen names somewhere is luvstofish). Me, not a fan of the scaly critters! Not to mention, I am allergic. So fishing poles will not be on our packing list! ;) Thanks for the tip though! :teeth:

And we are learning! After our trip to Tombstone, we learned that if you do not secure the cap on your sewer hose storage after it falls off in front of your house, your sewage hose will fall out on the way to storage! :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

Welcome...........from one military family to another!!! We lived in Virginia for about 5 yrs. while my husband (Ret. Navy) was stationed there and we loved it! Contratulations on the Camper and your new found love of camping with the family. Our kids love it and we have such a great time together when we go for the weekend. Hope to see you around the board often.........these guys are great and are a wealth of information!!!!

Wow....what a great and enthusiastic story....you will love the answers you get to your questions here....you wont always get a direct answer...in fact we tend to stray off subject as a rule here...but you'll get the info you need eventually!!!! Welcome aboard and I look forward to hearing more about your new adventures and worries and dont get offended when we laugh at any horrible mistakes you make as a new camper....we all had to start somewhere. Im new to owning a camper as well...but Ive been on this board absorbing the info for quite some time now. I came for the information...Ive stayed for the people.

For the people... LOL

My only suggestion is to hide your beer from the otters - they're notorious beer thiefs.

Are you aware that there is a special Military deal for tickets - your husband is eligible for a free 5 Day Park Hopper and you and the kids can each get a companion 5 Day Pass for $99 each ($25 more for hoppers) - which is a fantastic deal. You can check with the local MWR for details and even get the tickets before you leave - they still have to be acttivated at Disney though.

There are a few retired military on this board - look out for one - a big bag of wind O6.

No other advice - FW is a great place to camp.

Hide beer from otters, check! Shouldn't be too difficult since I don't drink beer. I'm a wine girl myself! :teeth:

Thanks for the info on the military tickets! We are definitely aware of the Milatry Salute and planned on taking advantage of that for our tickets (especially considering we now have to pay adult prices for our oldest! :scared1: ). As you say, a fantastic deal!

We are hoping to be retired military in the near future. I am eligible to retire (reserve retirement) in less than 10 months! DH is eligible for his AD retirement in about 15 months, but he is actively looking for that elusive O-6 position. If he gets one, that will put his retirement off another 3 years after he takes the job. But the increase in retirement pay will definitely be worth it! :thumbsup2
