Heinz changing ketchup formula

What's the difference in plain old sugar and just sugar?

Sorry to confuse. There's no difference of course.;) I'll try to be more precise in my future internet communications. I was just trying to state that both products use cane sugar. Simple Heinz is not organic while Organic Heinz is. Both recipes have removed HFCS from the product.

Ketchup in the US is nasty compared to Australia, where we dont use HFCS in anything we make.... seriously guys if you have somewhere that stocks australian "tomato sauce" (what we call ketchup), it tastes heaps better without the HFCS

I am very brand loyal to ketchup! Luckily last week or the week before (and possibly still) Walmart had the BIG jug for $1 and I bought a few. MIght have to go back and buy a few more!

All the stores around me have Heinz on special -- I'm guessing it's the clearing out to make way for the new recipe. I picked up four 40-oz bottles at Target for $1 each.

We are loyal to our ketchup , especially being from Pittsburgh. We love Heinz and will use no other.
Shoot it has been huge news around here when it was first announced about Heinz changing their recipe. We will see. But I agree with a pp, gees people take some responsibility. Why should a company have to change a recipe? If you don't want it in there, don't buy it.

When we were in St. Lucia last year , the conceirge at the Sandals resort, sent to Pittsburgh for her Heinz ketchup. She said her and her kids tasted it on a trip to the states once and won't use anything else. I told her, wish I would have known, I could have brought her some in my suitcase. LOL

Heinz.... best tasting brand. Why mess with it?

Best tasting? I made the mistake of buying a bottle of it last year for here at the lake and ended up throwing it out.. I normally buy Hunt's - or a store brand - but the Heinz was on sale, so I decided to buy that instead.. The first time I used it I remembered why I always choose other brands.. To me (and my family) it tastes like they really went overboard with a bottle of vinegar..

If they can get rid of that nasty bitter taste, I might be tempted to try it again - if it was on sale..;)

I picked up 12 of these yesterday as I think my kids would drink it if I let them!

Another Heinz Ketchup snob here... don't like anything else. Sounds like I had better stock up as we go through a lot of it.

I HATE HATE HATE Hunt's... it's the worst.

It's funny you said this, as Cooks Illustrated rated Hunts as the best, and well over Heinz brand.

Dh, who has been to Australia, would agree!

LOL

They would have changed the original recipe to sweeten it with HFCS to begin with. They are simply fixing the mistake they made before.

Have they ever done this before? They might have pulled a New Coke. We have a friend who collects cocacola stuff, and he checked his old cans. Before New Coke, it was sweetened with normal sugar. Then there was New Coke. And after they went to "classic" coke, "classic" was sweetened with HFCS. Was not classic at all!

And that's why when I have the Mexican bottled coke, made with cane sugar, I have flashbacks to middle and high school, when I drank coke at lunch (after my mom gave me money to buy lunch I would do that...we didn't drink it at home). After trying Mexican bottled coke, I can't drink the American stuff anymore! The HFCS stuff has a nasty aftertaste.

Anyway, so if there was a time, 10 or maybe even 20 years ago, when Heinz did something experimental, it would be interesting to see if that is when they put the HFCS in there.

I'm just glad to know that simple/organic heinz exists! I think we'll still buy the O Organics, or the Fred Meyer organic, brands, but it's nice to know Heinz is getting a clue.

DH tests his blood sugar twice a day, and the difference between the response he has to HFCS is astronomical compared to an equal amount of sugar.... Shocking, really.
