our DD is 40 inches and DS is 44 and we have 2 mos before we go to WDW. our DD is a little thrill seeker and wants to go on tower of terror and splash mountain etc.

She's 40" by the doctor. Are the 40" restrictions true 40" or are they more like 41-42" to account for shoes etc. If she can't get on, I just want to make sure I manage her expectations

TIA

My family and I went in April05 and my daughter is stretching 36" without her shoes but made the 38" mark with shoes and she was fine. So I do not believe that they add inches to account for shoes.

She SHOULD be OK. When DS was at that critical 42" mark for the "big" roller coasters we explained to him that we would try but that they may not let hime go on the ride. This way he would have more understanding if we was not able to go on the ride than if we told him that he is tall enough and will be able to ride and then just miss the height mark when measured by the ride operator. We had this happen to DD this year. She was just at 36" with shoes. Some rides she measured OK and others she did not. At 2.5 she was too young to understand why she could not get on a ride. Luckily one of the operators had us go to the rides office where they measured her and gave her a hand stamp that indicated she was at 36".

My DS was exactly 40" when we measured him at home and was just above the height marker for the rides. He rode Splash Mountain numerous times, Big Thunder Mtn RR, etc. Splash Mountain was the only place where they measured him several times. Most rides they didn't even check.

Is there a listing anywhere of the height restrictions for all the rides or is there only one height needed to be reached in general? Thanks! :flower:

We had a "close call" one time with a son that was right at the required height. The first time he did RnRC he was measured and waved in, we did a baby swap and we entered the line again. Another CM was manning the line and declared him too small. The problem was there are three type measuring devices used at WDW:

1) A wooden "L" with a rubber tip at the base.
2) A plastic "L" with a flat end at the base.
3) A fixed metal stand.

Types #2 & #3 are very accrurate, but #1 (with a rounded rubber tip) can vary in height about +/- 1 inch if the CM isn't holding the "ruler" perfectly vertical.

They were using a wooden ruler on my son that day. We measured him at home before the trip and knew that he was in fact tall enough. So we politely protested that the previous CM had measured him and found him to be "fit" to ride. The 2nd CM then re-measured him and because he was holding the stick at a different angle my son "grew" about an inch and was allowed in for a second trip.

As long as they are 40 inches with shoes they will be fine. My son in June did not make 40 with his sandals but did with his sneakers. He got to ride TT and Soarin, so was thrilled. This time he just did TOT and was a brave 4 yr old with his friend , he didn't like but he tried it !!!

On our first trip, DS was too little to make the 48" cut-off for Primeval Whirl. It broke his tiny little 5-year-old heart at the time, BUT it proved to be great incentive for him over the course of the following year to eat up his veggies, do a good job on his meals and get plenty of sleep, exercise -- all we had to do was say "48 inches!" and he'd give it his best!

Making the 48" on that next trip was the highlight for him -- I took pictures of him stepping up, being measured by the CM, and got the priceless look on his face when he was deemed tall enough!

NOW we're working to get the last 1/2 inch he needs to qualify for the virtual roller coaster ride at DQ when we go in Dec. I know that, with shoes, he'll probably be fine, but it's great to have a real Disney reason to do all that good, healthy stuff that helps you grow!

Funny, we're doing the same thing with DD4. She measured 39.25 inches at the doctor's in September, so we keep telling her she needs to "grow that inch!" before Disney in December. Any time she balks at eating her broccoli, spinach, chicken, etc. we just say, "But you need to grow that inch!" and she eats whatever is on her plate.

Actually, she has grown a little and probably makes 40" in her sneakers, but we're not telling her that! :)

3 years ago my son measured 40 inches at his doctors visit, but when we got there, they said he was under the requirement for Splash Mountain. The woman was measuring him on a slope and I know she was holding the thing wrong. My son was heartbroken so I never tried again at any of the other rides. We went again this year and he now measured at home 47 1/2 inches but yet down he could have gone on primevil whirl (although he decided not too). Go figure!! I think it really depends on the person measuring them. I would prepare her just in case.
