Height requirements

My child was barely 40 inches with his shoes on when we went in June 2014 and they never measured him even once. I was shocked because I've always read the CMs are very cautious when it comes to height. We were at the parks on five different days too! My son was 3 years old at the time, but is tall for his age. He rode pretty much everything that had a 40 inch or less height requirement.

Our youngest with shoes on was just over 40" on our first trip and 44" the next year. He was able to ride everything we attempted to ride. At Space, they didn't even measure him at the entrance or before boarding which we thought was abnormal. This year, we are really hoping he hits the 48" mark, right now he's 47 1/2" without shoes on and has 4 months to grow.

Is the measuring bar set right at 40 inches?

It's not regulated by the Flordia Dept of Weights and Standards or anything. THere is soe variance between bars around the park.

Pick a good set of shoes with a thick heel, but nothing outrageous (anything that stands out they may make him remove)...and go early in the day, we are all taller in the morning and shorter in the afternoon.

Plus he has nearly two more months.

Make sure that kids on the cusp wear sneakers and not flip-flops or sandals. My youngest was right at 44" on one trip and the first day we were at MK he had on Crocs and didn't make the cut for Space Mtn. We went back the next day with him in sneakers and he was fine. The first try was late in the afternoon after a long car ride, and the second day was first thing in the morning, so that helped too.

The same CM may even measure twice. DD was exactly 44 inches when we went in May. We rode EE, and she was measured at the entrance. The CM asked if DD was Ariel's sister or Merida's sister because of her red hair. We got off, and went right back to the entrance to ride again, and the same CM was still there and said, "I just saw you get on this and you're back!" and still had to measure her.

We made our 40" son practice standing up straight before our trip in May. He got on every ride with a 40 inch limit but he was measured at least twice each ride. BTMRR he got measured 4 times by 2 different CMs before we were alowed in line.

My kid will probably be about 34" in shoes for our September trip, but if I could get her on the Barnstormer it would make my vacation.

So my question is, will a 2 year old in high heels raise suspicion? Follow up question, where can I buy high heels for a 2 year old?

So, I am reading that they are really strict, especially on big rides like BTMRR. Anyone have any experience with those on the border kids on 7DMT and Kali River Rapids. We measured DS earlier this week with his tennis shoes on and he is like 37.75 inches (38 is the requirement). We leave a week from today. He has been eating like crazy so I am hoping for a growth spurt. But, I am curious about the measuring practices at these somewhat smaller rides. Do they measure twice too? My biggest fear is him passing at the entrance and being turned away at the loading platform. He is almost 3 and the colossal meltdown may not be worth trying at all if he is too close. Just trying to get a gauge. He has his sights set on 7DMT so I want to prepare him the best I can if it just isn't going to happen. Thanks all!

And random side-note, does anyone know what my kid could potentially ride 7DMT but not Soarin'? I don't understand why the height requirement for Soarin' is so stinking tall.

Any ride with a height requirement will have a measuring spot outside the ride and then again ride before the ride. So if the height is questionable, be prepared to be measured twice. And it's not uncommon to have kids pass the first height check, but fail the second and not be able to ride.

The height requirement is taller on Soarin because it lifts pretty decently high in the air and you could get hurt on that ride a lot easier than the mine train.

Hmmm... Okay. I guess I will just play it by ear. I am just thinking it may not be worth the tears to get in line if I have significant doubt he will be turned away at the loading point. I wish Disney would adopt a system similar to Cedar Parks where you can get one measurement and then a wrist band so you don't have to worry all day about passing here and not there.

My little guy was exactly 38 in shoes on our first trip and was allowed to ride SDMT every time we tried, but he was also measured twice before each ride.

Just let him know ahead of time that he'll be measured and there's a chance he might not be tall enough. I've seen others say they tell their kids something like "if you aren't tall enough to ride this, we'll go get ice cream and you can get whatever you want" or something like that. Wouldn't hurt to try though as he may meet the height requirement.

And the problem with the wristband is its so easy to get around that and cheat the system.
