How strict are they?

It says kids have to be 4ft. 5 inches tall otherwise a parent has to hold them.

My kids are almost 6 & 8 but they are short --but excellent swimmers.

Does it really matter - do they measure?

I'm okay holding them-but do want them to ride on the dolphins is that's what I'm paying for.

Go to the www.Dolphindiscovery.com, they have different requirements than the cruise excursion. I am 4'11" and when standing on the ledge in the water, the water came up above my chest and waves would splash in my face. You do have to hold on to the fencing with one hand to keep your balance.
Our experience- we did this in Cozumel. My DH did the Royal swim with my 9 yr old (about 50 in)and he held him when they were on the ledge, but he did fine swimming out to be picked up by the dolphins.
I did the Dolphin encounter with my small 7 yr old and she needed to be held, the surf was to strong for her to hold on herself. After the encounter started they did have another employee come into the water and he held her and the other little boy in our group so the two Moms could touch the Dolphins and interact. I had booked this myself and our group consisted of the four of us. The cruise excursion group was very large and they did not have the extra help.
I believe the age for the Royal Swim in Cozumel is 8 and must be accompanied by an adult until the age of 12 or 13.
I think your 8 yr old will be fine, but the six year old may be too little.
Happy to answer any other questions, my kids say this was their favorite thing.

I was wondering about this too because I thought that was pretty tall- I mean considering I'm only 5'2 myself! I mean we have 2 kids (10 and 8) that aren't that tall- and I can't imagine having to hold like my daughter while my husband held our 10yr old son... she may be under that height limit but she's a lot for little ME to be holding! LOL
4ft 5 inches is darn near adult size. In fact I know some adults around here that are only a few inches taller than that...... :lmao:

Are you talking about the dolphin swim at Chankanaab? If so, their site says a minimum age of 8 and at least 4 ft. tall.

Not sure they would let your 6 year old participate in the swim. However, the Dolphin Discovery is very nice and my 7 year old DD loved it.
