Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho. It's off to the Grand Floridian We Go! June 2014 (Update: Video)

I can't wait to go there! Looks amazing!

It really is amazing. There are lots of details to look at, and the food is quite good, too.

Awesome BOG update! Pickle and baby are so cute together. I'm one of the oldest cousins of a very large family so I remember the anticipation of being able to hold the babies.

That was one of the most special parts of this trip--getting to see Matt's cousin, Beth and her family.

What a wonderful meal!! So my main reason to go to BOG is to try the grey stuff! But I may just have to get the strawberry cupcake to go now! :goodvibes

I like the way you think! :joker:

Wow, I need to make sure Olivia never reads this report b/c I don't think we could ever match that birthday for Pickle - wow ... and I love that you could tell even with all that went on one of the highlights was getting to hold her baby cousin.

The meal really does look good and glad it met your expectations/hopes. Their cupcakes definitely to live up to the hype

I asked Pickle at the end of the day, what her favorite part of her birthday was. I was expecting her to say BBB or meeting Elsa. She said it was spending her birthday with her cousins. That response made my day! Oh...and there's at least one more memorable cupcake coming...stay tuned. :cool1:

What a fun and magical birthday for Pickle! I am sure this will be a birthday she will remember her entire life!!

Breakfast at Cinderella's Castle and dinner at the Beast's Castle!? That sounds like a perfect birthday!

That would be tempting to write on the monorail sign with the luck you had.

I'd say you got your monies worth from that stroller!

Yeah, considering the stroller was probably only about $30, I'd say that we more than got our money's worth :cool1:

I agree! Big thumbs up on going with a classic Mickey balloon! And I love that they have them in the clear balloons now. I wonder if there is a reason/story behind that or just for an updated look?

Happy to hear the MB worked good all trip! I'm a little nervous about them not working and then missing park time to fix them. (But will have the cards we got from UCT with us just in case!)

Can't wait to see how dinner goes!

My guess is that it's for an updated look, but the fact that the traditional balloon is inside mylar (or whatever), it stayed nice the whole trip and even for a week or two after we got home :thumbsup2

first time we've seen the magic bands being used for entry - DD has been asking if you still need to use your finger id too - so question answered thank you

Cool! Glad to be helpful :cool1:

What a fun and magical birthday for Pickle! I am sure this will be a birthday she will remember her entire life!!

I sure hope so. And if not, Stephanie and I sure will :hippie:

Day 7 - Monday the 9th - Part 8 - Finishing off a Wonderful Birthday

Just a quick post to finish up Pickle's birthday :hippie:

We forgot to share the drawings that Pickle made in her new Frozen notebook while we were having dinner. So cute!

After dinner, it was about 6:15pm and we headed over to use FP+ for the Haunted Mansion. Not Pickle's favorite ride, but it can't be 100% about her :rotfl2:

After HM, Buddy and Princess decided that they wanted to head off with Huey, Dewey, and Louie. So Stephanie, Pickle, and I decided to head back towards main street.

Wow, looks like some strong weather is rolling in!!!

We made it to the candy shop before the rain started coming down. So we took cover and got some cotton candy for Pickle.

A few minutes later the rain turned into a sprinkle and we were ready to move on. I didn't take any photos of the next activity, but we headed over to the fire station to pick up some Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom cards. We've never tried playing this game before, so we weren't sure what to expect. But we decided to give it a try. Our first stop was in front of Main St. Emporium, and then we did the one in the art gallery. It then started to rain pretty hard again, so we decided to head back to the resort. The game was pretty cool, so we thought we'd try again later in the week.

Guess what?!?! The monorail was down again. The boats too. I guess due to the storm. It had stopped raining by the time we got to the monorail, but the boats never got going again. We had to wait in a huge line for the monorail, probably about a 30 minute wait.

And as we passed through the GF lobby, Pickle pointed out Chip and Mrs. Potts in the tile.

When we got back to the room, we decided to just relax and watch some TV. And Pickle had a nice bath, as she was ready to have her hair washed and back to normal :wizard:

Sort of fun since we had been to Be Our Guest earlier :goodvibes

So a relaxing end to a very busy and spectacular day. Happy Birthday Pickle!!!!

What a special birthday for Pickle. Starting off the morning with all the Disney Princesses and ending the day with the Beast in his Castle. One birthday she's sure to remember for a very long time.

Can't wait to read about her reaction. I think she looked adorable!

Awww what an awesome birthday for Pickle!

It really looks like she got some nice use out of her Frozen notebook. I hope we get to see more drawings in future updates and speaking of that, I do believe she draws better than I do :rotfl2: Seriously. I'm a lefty.

Hi TinkyBelle, nice to have you reading along :wave2:

Pickle loves to draw and make stuff at home. She's very creative. Assuming she continues to enjoy drawing/painting/coloring, I really look forward to seeing what she comes up when she's older and has developer her skills :wizard:

What a wonderful birthday for Pickle. :) The drawings are too cute!

Thanks Kelley!

Day 8 - Tuesday the 10th - Part 1 - Hollywood Studios

After celebrating Pickle's birthday the day before, we decided to tone it down a bit for Tuesday. I had been to Hollywood Studios for Star Wars Weekends on Saturday with my parents, but everyone else hadn't visited it yet, so this was the day!

Luckily, we didn't have any transportation issues this time around. Seems like the buses are a lot more dependable than the monorails. :rolleyes1

Wow, we arrived about 30 minutes before park opening and the lines were already growing. Surprisingly, it was way more crowded on Tuesday than it was on Saturday for Star Wars Weekends. (I wonder if it was because the further you get into June, the more kids are out of school and summer vacations start to kick in across the country?)

I'm glad that we arrived when we did, because looking back, the line grew behind us really quickly!!!

The photo above was about 5-10 minutes after we got in line. :scared:

So, we waited patiently (as possible) and decided to head straight towards Star Tours without stopping.

We weren't first in line, but we were pretty darn close. No waits at all. We walked right in, took our spaces in front of the doors, and within a minute or two, we entered the ride. I don't recall the sequence that we experienced, but I was pretty sure that I had seen all of them before. Still lots of fun, and they chose Buddy to be the Rebel spy.

Years ago, when they first started doing build your own light sabers, Princess and Buddy made their own versions. Pickle decided that she wanted to make one this time around...

She picked purple, of course

Buddy's first one was long lost/broken, so he decided to make a new one.

They were a bit different from the last time around. These ones have a colored blade. The ones we had before, had clear blades and then you picked a "filter" that went over the light bulb that would make the blade the corresponding color. The old ones had lightsaber "power crystals" included that you could add/remove from a special compartment. I'm not sure if I would have preferred the old or new versions, but Buddy didn't even seem to remember a difference and was happy with his new green one :-)

Next up, we had FP+ for Toy Story Midway Mania, so we headed that way next. Since there was still one Star Wars Weekend to go, they still had the various props and decorations out. So we had to stop for a photo opp with the new light sabers.

My parents and the rest of the crew had the same FP+ too, so we all met up outside and entered together. Go team!!!

Hi Cassie and Stephanie!

Hey look... It's OK Pickle, you're seven now!!!

My mom plays a mean game of Toy Story Midway Mania.

And watch out for Duffy, he's a high scorer too!

After Toy Story, we decided to split up from everyone. Buddy and Princess went off to ride Rockin' Roller Coaster and stuff with Huey, Dewey, and Louie (and parents). And then my parents went off to find Denise and Steve's group. A funny story.... Louie (14) has been afraid of roller coasters since he was a kid and would refuse to ride them. It took a lot to get him on 7DMT... but he actually liked it. Huey and Princess had kept on pestering him to ride Rockin' Roller Coaster with them. And Huey offered to give him $25 of his souvenir money to ride it with them. The bribe worked, and he rode it. I don't think he actually "liked" the ride, but it wan't terrifying like he imagined it would be. Haha! From that point on, he joined them for all the scary rides

So, Princess, Stephanie and I weren't sure what to do next. We had a FP+ a little later for the Little Mermaid show, but that wasn't for a while. It was getting close enough to 11, so we decided to stop for lunch next. We aren't big fans of Hollywood Studios counter service, but we've found that Pizza Planet actually isn't too bad. So, we headed that way!

We got there about 15 minutes before they started serving lunch, so we went up stairs to relax and enjoy the AC.

Pickle and I planned to stay upstairs while Stephanie headed down to be first in line :cool1:

A couple minutes later, we noticed that my parents and Denise's family had showed up too. (Pure coincidence.) So we went down to greet them and see if they all wanted to sit together. (There was no keeping Pickle away from Baby at that point!)

A few minutes later, we had our food and were ready to eat.

Pickle went with the kids cheese pizza meal.

And then Stephanie and I shared a vegetable pizza.

Yum!

So we took our time eating and playing games with Chip and Dale in the arcade. We hadn't gotten to spent a whole lot of time with Denis's group since they were on the kids/naps program, so we were really happy to have lunch with them. Chip and Dale are a lot of fun :goodvibes

After lunch, it was time for us to start heading over towards the Little Mermaid show, so we parted ways with the family yet again...

.

wow - those were quite the crowds. Sometimes I don't get the reasoning why one park is more crowded on one day than another - like you said, you would have thought it would have been less crowded than on Saturday for SWW.

Great picture of Pickle showing off her lightsaber skills - looks very aggressive ... must teach her that anger leads to hate and hate leads to suffering ;)

MGM really is starved for good counter service - though at least they have the new outside lounge area at the Hollywood Brown Derby

Yay lightsabers! It would just be fun to build one I think! DBF would not agree though since I would probably pester him endlessly with it. Muahahaha!

Lol, thats awesome that the family all showed up at Pizza Planet! I know either you like it or you hate it but we enjoyed our meal there. I mean its pizza right? (Lol, I say that now though cause I haven't eaten at Via Napoli yet!)

Lovely start to HS!

Those lightsabers looked so cool! I loved Pickles poses for the star wars pics. We have not tried Pizza Planet yet but it's on my list for my CS meal on my HS day.

I'm catching up with your updates :)

I do enjoy the outlets, they have some fun stuff!

The Grand is so beautiful. I've been in the lobby before but I love seeing the photos of all the little details. Can't wait to be there in a little over 2 months! The inside of the room is great, and the views are wonderful!

7 Dwarfs Mine train looks really cool, hopefully the lines won't be too long when I go in October. I really want to try it.

Wow, all the Star Wars stuff looks so cool!! A Star Wars weekend is definitely on my to-do list for someday, even though I'm more of a trekkie ;)

I'll catch up on more later, now it's bed time!

At least she didn't try and tell me that I wasn't her father :rotfl2:

Yeah, it's not the greatest pizza. But the veggie pizza is actually pretty good. The vegetables are marinated in a garlic oil (or something) that brings it up a notch or two when compared to a pepperoni pizza.

We've eaten at most of the HS CS places a couple times each through the years, and we've settled on this being our "go to place" for a quick lunch at the park. Hopefully, you won't be disappointed.

Awesome trip report! :yay: I'm subscribing! :)

Thanks disneywlf! Nice to have you join us!

That's awesome that you'll be at the GF in a little over 2 moths! Stay tuned, as I have a few more photos of the resort to post later in the TR (including some 360 degree panoramas.)

Day 8 - Tuesday the 10th - Part 2 - More Hollywood Studios

After we finished up lunch, we headed towards the Animation Courtyard to see the Voyage of the Little Mermaid... but first a stop at Streets of America.

And then here we have.... Wait, I don't know who these people are! How in the heck did they get on our Photopass account. Hahaha!

Looks like they were having fun though.

The photo that did show up though, was Cassie and gang. That's more like it. I'm not sure if this is before or after the Rockin' Roller Coaster.

And before we forget, here's the photo pass photo for Rockin' Roller Coaster with the four biggest kids.

Anyway, we had FP+ for the Little Mermaid, but it turns out that it didn't really do us any good, as we would have ended up in the same place in line with or without them. No worries. At least we are here now!

Stephanie and I took Princess to see this show when she was a little over 2.5 years old. She loved it at the time and we thought it was pretty cool too. It's neat how they use body suits and black lights to hide the actors behind the puppets! For whatever reason, we've never been back, so this was Pickle's first time. She loved it!

After the show, we decided to head over to the "Magic of Disney Animation" to participate in one of the drawing classes. Pickle wasn't interested in going inside at first, but she didn't realize what it was a drawing class, then she changed her tune quickly.

We were towards the end of the line and there wasn't a lot of room left (no more drafting tables, just a few spots on the front row), so I chose to sit off on the floor and not take up a drawing spot. (Since my writing hand was the one that was broken.) No worries though, as it gave me an excuse to take a lot of photos.

Stephanie and Pickle were up in the front row on the left.

The instructor went through a lot of options and had the room vote on which character they wanted to draw. The winning vote was Minnie Mouse.

He got to work... walking everyone through the steps...

Pickle became frustrated rather quickly, as she had a hard time keeping up. Not too bad, all things considered :-)

And of course, she was comparing hers to her mom's, who was doing an incredible job if I do say so myself! (If Pickle was sitting next to some other kids, she might not have been so upset.)

When the instructor was finished, I snapped a quick photo. The one on the bottom was the reference, and he had just finished the one on the top.

After he finished, he offered up his drawing as a trivia prize. He asked, "What was the most recent theatrical short that Minnie Mouse appeared in?". Stephanie raised her hand and he called on her. She had the correct answer, it was "Get a Horse". And then he said, "Do you know what movie it was in?" And she answered Frozen. Awesome! I love being married to a big Disney geek :cheer2: So he addressed the drawing to Stephanie and then handed it to her. Very cool!

On the way out, passing through the Art Gallery / Gift Shop, they had some drawing guidebooks on display, and Pickle decided that she'd use some of her birthday money. She picked out one that featured Mickey and Friends and that came with colored pencils, sharpener, eraser, etc. She was pretty excited about that.

It was now around 1:15pm and since we had an early lunch, we were ready for snacks. I went with a classic Mickey Bar, Pickle went with frozen lemonade, and Stephanie had a frozen banana.

It was pretty hot, so we decided to head back to the Grand Floridian to relax and swim for a while.

Stephanie had to use the ladies room, so we stopped at the front of Hollywood Boulevard on the way out. I'm not sure what you call these guys. But they were loud, obnoxious, and borderline annoying as they went through their skit/routine. LOL.

When we arrived at the bus stop, we bumped into Cassie's gang. They were ready to go back and relax too. Great minds think alike!

And then we were off and back on our way to the resort!

.

I've had a few random people show up on my Photopass account, also. They do appear to be a fun bunch!

Stephanie did a fantastic job at the Animation Academy! Pickle's was pretty darn good, too. I've always wanted to give that a try, but there never seems to be enough time. Was there much of a wait to get in?

I agree that HS has my least favorite selections for counter service, but your pizza looked rather tasty.

Thanks! I'd say that we waited about 15 minutes for the Animation Academy. Not too bad given the crowd level that day!

It looks like you are all having a grand time! ;) I can't wait for part two of DHS! (I'm trying to decide where to eat dinner that night and if we should take the kiddos to Fantasmia.) I'm glad Pizza Planet was OK--my son is a huge Toy Story fan so it is a requirement. LOL
