Heelys at the parks?

Are kids using Heelys at the parks or are they not allowed? For those that don't know what Heelys are, they are those tennis shoes that have the wheel in the heel. You walk flat footed to walk and lean back a bit on your heel to roll.

I saw quite a few kids using them when we were there. There was one girl in particular I felt bad for because while waiting for Philharmagic she was trying to remove the wheels (they were apparently hurting her feet) and the wheels were stuck in place, they wouldn't budge! Not sure what the outcome was, but she tried for a while to get those suckers to move. I don't think they're supposed to be that difficult to do :confused3 Anyway, no one seemed to be bothering the kids with those shoes on, so go for it.

That poor little girl with the stuck wheel :( I hope she was staying on site with some better shoes in the room.

We don't have them. Yet. But it seems like a good alternative to the constant shoulder rides. Hey, they can't be much worse than the stroller brigade.

When I was there last week saw several kids being told to put the wheels away by SCM in the different parks.Mine use to were hers because it gave her another inch or so to get on rides.

I haven't noticed them at the parks. I have noticed them at DTD. I really wish they would not allow them. They are a menace, IMHO. I've seen several times when kids nearly knocked people over using them. Sorry, I don't like them!

I think I heard the parents mumbling something about having to get her a different pair of sneakers to wear if they couldn't get the wheel off, so I imagine they didn't have something else in their hotel.

LOL, they certainly can't be much worse than the stroller brigade!

No need to apologize. I would assume that they would be banned for safety reasons of the wearer and the other guests.

I admit I let my 7 year old use selectively.
Basicaly when she got real tired, she woud stand between me and our youngest carrige and just glide.
It really did save her strenght some. I did not let her just fly all over the place though.

I believe someone on a recent thread posted rules that stated they are not allowed in the parks. I'm sure people wear them anyway though.

My DS9 used his last year.I wasn't aware at the time that it wasn't allowed. Most times I was holding his hand & he glided along.

They ARE banned in the parks....but parents let their kids use them anyway. I was there a couple of weeks ago, and I asked if they were allowed ( I don't like them, I wanted to know because I saw a thread on here about them)

The worst thing I saw. A parent was allowing their 2 kids about 5 and 8 were them at O'hana. I don't know if everyone has eaten there. But they bring food to your table on HOT skewers that are about 2 ft long. A poor waiter almost stabbed the little boy.....what was his parents thinking? :confused3

Oh, they are also banned in Home Depots, Redners food markets, and Sesame Place.

Officially, they are not allowed in WDW parks. CM's might make you take them off or put the wheels away. We saw several people stopped by CM's in June.

I didn't see any kids using them when we were there.

They were everywhere when we were there Sept. 16-23.

They're banned from the parks. There was a huge thread on here a few weeks ago about it with official confirmation from WDW. Any kind of rollerskate would not be allowed, even if it's just one wheel in a shoe.

I did see some use them over the weekend & saw a couple kids almost crash into other people. Considering you'll see a lot of threads about people complaining of people stopping suddenly in walkways & not watching where they're going, I'd think adding a child rolling on Heelys would eventually spell disaster. People really get into a la-la mentality while at WDW. JMHO.

I know that lots of kids love these shoes, but working in a pediatric office, you have no idea how often we see kids who've sustained either sprains or fractures because of them. We even have to ask parents to stop their kids from wheeling (fast!) around the waiting room! Many parents make sure their kids use them responsibly, but there are too many parents who allow their kids to zoom around as they please - I have a problem with the parents of the zoomers when the zooming is in inappropriate/potentially hazardous places.

Using them just to pull tired kids seems like a reasonable compromise. It shouldn't be offensive (the kids couldn't be running into other people if they were between 2 adults) and does seem like a way to give older (say 7-10 year olds) kids a break.

However, my kids have had them and in general I think they weigh so much more than a regular tennis shoe (at least a running shoe) that the kids would get tired so much easier and earlier that it wouldn't make it worth it. Maybe the newer ones are lighter but the ones I've seen I wouldn't want to walk all day in the parks in!

This was my only complaint on our trip b/c I cant tell you how many times I almost was ran into by kids wearing these! (I got over it) I was more concerned of either the kids getting hurt or getting hurt myself. I wish security was a little more strict with this...but oh well...what ever...it didnt ruin my trip...I just hope no one gets hurt.
