Heelys at the parks?

They may be "banned" but there is little to no enforcement!
And apparently that makes it all O.K....from reading the recent reports of them. sad that disney is afraid to police its own policies for fear of 'upsetting' someone.

Am I the only one this ticks off? Why do they have rules if they don't enforce them? Especially the ones that concern our safety!

They'll only really enforce the rule when someone else forces them to - by a lawsuit or somesuch. Anyone willing to go for it? Of course, if I was hurt by someone on Heelys, I'd sue the parents, not WDW.

We just returned from Disney on Saturday and there were kids with Heeleys EVERYWHERE! I was shocked at how many kids were wearing/using them! We saw dozens each day in the parks.
Yup, I was there the previous week and saw them everywhere too! For some reason, it was the kid "skating" around in the Emporium that stuck out the most in my mind. But they were so many places!

Nah, it ticks me off too.

Hmmmm. . .

I'm kinda hoping somone zooms past me, give me a chance to re-live my old hockey days.

You would be able to sue Disney too. If they have rules, it is up to them to enforce them.

Oh please...sue Disney over heelys? If anyone was to get hurt it would more than likely be the kid wearing them.
This is a fad and will pass soon. I'm sure there is something even worse waiting around the corner for grown ups to get all upset over.

Saw lots of Heelys on our trip in July. Scariest moment was watching two boys fly down the ramps near the monorail. My own two kids were walking ahead of us and I was really afraid they would be plowed into and knocked down. Luckily, these two boys were pretty good skaters and went around them! I am not a big fan of these shoes at all!

That scenario happened to us. Except the person the brats wearing Heelys ran into was my 70 year old mother. She is very frail with cancer and Osteoperosis and it could have really hurt her. No apology, and they kept right on going. I hate those things! Last week my husband and I ate at a restaurant and saw some kid wheeling all over the the place. He ran into a waitress who in the process managed to dump her tray of dirty plates. Again, no apology from this kid or his parents but they did make him go out to the parking lot. A dark parking lot at night with a kid whizzing all over wearing black. Some people.

I think, if say a 12 year on heelys ran into say a 3 year old, we all know who would get hurt. Count me in as an adult getting upset over these obnoxious and dangerous shoes. Read my above post and it will all be crystal clear why. Its only fun until somebody gets hurt! And the ones putting forth the law suit will probably be the parents of the heely kid. Because look how their poor baby got hurt.

Oh, good grief, I cannot stand those things!

I have no problem with the children who avoid exhaustion by holding onto a parent/stroller/whatever and glides.

I do, however, have a problem with the children who go shooting down the aisles of grocery stores/Costco/Ikea/the mall, etc like bats out of you-know-where.

A ban on these just makes sense. The parks are way too crowded for kids to be skating around into people.

How are the shoes obnoxious? It's the people in them.

I guess it's time to unsubscribe since people are talking about hip checking and hurting children over shoes.... :confused3

I guess I think the shoes are obnoxious because they are made for children who are sometimes too young to know their limits and don't have the parental guidance to teach them. So I guess I should rephrase and say the makers of these shoes are obnoxious because they are making money off something that kids can't help but see as cool and fun. Feel free to unsubscribe because maybe if your kids have them you see the other side. And I am betting you are a nice, responsible parent who would never let their kids behave irresponsibly with these shoes or anything else. Unfortunately, like most things in life, its the 1% (the moron percentage that is) of the population that has kids who wear these shoes who don't use their heads and therefore offend the rest of us. I am telling you, when your little old mom almost gets mowed down by a kid in these things you will feel differently.

Like I said earlier in this thread.....

Both my kids have them but I wouldn't let them wear them to Disney even if they were allowed. I don't let them wear them anywhere except at home (outside) and the other day when we were at a local grocery store a kid came zooming down the isle with them on and almost knocked my daughter over. Of course his Mom is looking at me like I should have moved my kid out of the way and I just looked at her and said to my kids (right in front of her) and this is why you don't wear your heelys in places like this. She didn't say a word. Not even sorry.

Oh, please don't unsubscribe on my account.

Because you have no sense of humor or, maybe because you live in a dream world that doesn't have sarcasm.

But please, not because I made a comment that YOU didn't understand.

I guess my withdrawl from the thread didn't catch up to the e-mail that I just got.

You don't know jack about me or what "world" I live in.

I understand that you are offensive. I understand that your post just proved what a horse's behind you really are.

Thanks for the clarification for all us slow folk who don't get sarcasm and humor....Let me know when you post something funny or intelligent. I'll be sure to PM you so you can explain it to me.

I actually agree with you on the majority of this post. Except the last sentence. I will always blame the person or the parents.

And yes, my child too, mis-behaves on occasion, but I try to do something about it. The biggest problem is parents who think their kids are never wrong and they own the world.

I don't have anything to add about heelys, but I just wanted to say "hi" to the thread starter. Hello, KrisTX :teeth:.

Heely's are the most ridiculous things ever made. Not only are they dangerous to those around the person using them, but they definetly cant be good for the person wearing them. You cant walk properly in those things. And I cant see anyone being able to go all day in the parks with them. This is just another fad that parents feel they need to let their kids enjoy because "everyone else has a pair" Never mind doing what is best for your kid and saying no. That is too painful and mean. I hope some kid gets to close to me in those things 'cuz he/she will get a forearm shiver they wont soon forget.....and their parents will get one too! And then while they are sprawled out in the middle of Fantasy Land Ill rip the wheels and toss them in the moat around Cinderellas Castle.
