Heelys at the parks?

I actually agree with you on the majority of this post. Except the last sentence. I will always blame the person or the parents.

And yes, my child too, mis-behaves on occasion, but I try to do something about it. The biggest problem is parents who think their kids are never wrong and they own the world.

I am not sure why my last sentence, which basically said that if your elderly mom gets run over by heelied kiddies you will like them less, is the one you disagree with? I meant the heelies not the kids. I'm not a child hater and neither is anyone else. Many of us just find these shoes to be a hazard to who ever gets in the path of the kid rolling towards them. I never blame kids for doing crazy things but I do blame their parents when they see it happen and don't do anything about it and don't do their darndest to prevent it in the first place. But we all see things differently. And for the record, I hope you haven't gotten any idea from my posts that I think my kids are never wrong. I don't think kids on heelies are monsters compared to my kids, I just think they are really wearing the wrong shoe at the wrong time and place. The momentum of a child rolling on heelies is much stronger than if they are just walking along. That gives them less time to react and more opportunity to hurt someone including themself. Not seeing how I own the world with my sentiment.

I don't have anything to add about heelys, but I just wanted to say "hi" to the thread starter. Hello, KrisTX :teeth:.

I actually thought the 'hip check' comment was funny and took it as what it was meant to be...a joke. :confused3 People get all up in arms when someone jokes like this and "promotes hurting a kid" but they don't seem to care about the kids on wheels hurting themselves or other kids or adults. :smooth:

They are banned. Not allowed. Don't let your kids wear them. Plain and simple. I mean, how difficult is that, really? And I really don't think this applies to mose of us here. I just don't get the mentality of parents who allow their kids to wear them and don't give a rat's butt how they act in the park on them. WHY would someone let them wear them knowing that 1) the are NOT ALLOWED, and 2) they tick people off.
Alls I can say is, heaven help the 'parents' of the child that run into My child while on these wheeled contraptions--the 5 seconds of whining you endured from your child before giving in to them and letting them wear them will be NOTHING compared to the tounge lashing you get from me. :sad2: There wouldn't be enough Pixie Dust in the World... pixiedust:

(And I think this could apply to alot of things I witness there, but we won't get into that.)

I still think a lot of parents just don't realize they are "banned".
As for a 70 year old mom getting knocked over, well, yes, I guess she would get hurt, but honestly at a Disney park there are thousands of other ways, other than just heelys, a frail person could get hurt. Some of the grid locked crowds are just scary, not sure how an older frail person could ever make it through that.
Like I said, these shoes are just a fad and probably won't be around next year.

Just got home last night. These "heelies" were everywhere. There might be an "official" rule that they are not allowed but it is not be enforced. I even saw kids spinning around a cast member. I never saw any accidents or kids running into people. I did have to dodge a few of the kids wearing them and going fairly fast. As long as Disney isn't going to say anything, they are going to keep on rolling....no matter what we say.

Thankfully you are an able bodied, quick reflexed adult. I feel sorry for the poor souls who aren't.

Sadly, you are right.

I actually wasn't sure if they were banned.
And she did really only use for transportationpurposes. No CM said a word to us about them, but again that may be because she was using them so limitedly.

Please, Please, PLEASE! Do not got Heelys. They are the most annoying things in the park. Look, if you want to skate go get some rollerblades, go to a sidewalk and skate. But you don't know how inconsiderate kids and there parents can be with those dang things. Kids fly past you going down hills and they have no remorse! Just don't f\get them, Please!

How would you know? I didn't see any signs (doesn't mean there wasn't one but we didn't see one) and Cast Members don't say a word.

I don't know why anyone would want to wear them anyways. Aren't they heavy?

I for one know that Heely's are banned at Walt Disney World. However next time I go I am going to carry a bag of rocks and a billy club. Last time I was there which was about a week or two ago I was constantly getting ran into by kids wearing Heely's and not paying attention. I just want to either clothesline them with a billy club or if they are in an open area throw rocks in their path. That will teach them to mess with the Wolf! :stir:

How are the shoes obnoxious? It's the people in them. I guess it's time to unsubscribe since people are talking about hip checking and hurting children over shoes.... :confused3
Nobody is hurting children over shoes. If children wear shoes they are unable or unwilling to control themselves in then they can get hurt by hitting other objects or other people or the ground.

IMHO it is perfectly OK to deflect someone just about to run into you. Proper use of Heely's includes keeping all body parts at least 24 inches clear of all body parts of all nearby persons. I don't think anyone can hip check half that far while standing nearly stationary.

If kids do get into problems with Heely's or with anything else they will begin showing remorse after a few instances when remorse was extracted from them including under duress.

I almost got plowed in Albertson's the other night by a duo of boys on the things. Then the mom had the nerve to ask me why 'I' didn't move out of 'her sons' way. "Didn't you see my boys coming?" So I asked her if she was proud of herself for raising two boys that were so lazy that they couldn't be bothered to walk in public places and had to have wheels built into their shoes. I told her that her boys would end up fat like me. She didn't like me very much. But I'm O.K. with that.

Good for you!!! :thumbsup2

There were a lot of kids using them Sunday. I never saw one CM telling anyone not to use them.

As far as parents not following the rules, how do they know Disney doesn't allow them? I've never seen a sign at the parks and unless they post here or on a like board, they may not know.

I agree with this, I saw tons of them last week and never saw anyone being told not to use them. And there were no signs telling people they were not allowed. How would anyone know?

This thread is a repeat of another one- it is Florida State law that says you cannot use the Heeleys (skateboards ect) in public places. Just because the CMs didn't enforce doesn't make it any less against Florida law. So basically it's illegal. I could care less, but thems the facts.

Was at WDW last week and saw several kids wearing them. Rolling through the resort, parks, down the ramps, and in lines. Not once did I see a CM approach them and say that they werent allowed. I didnt see any kids run into anyone either. However, I did see a lady in an overloaded scooter (shopping bags in her lap, in the basket and around her feet) ram into an occupied stroller at DTD.

Yep, me too! Saw this more then once! Overloaded ECV, sometimes with kids in their laps running into everything...curbs, people, strollers, kids, cast members, etc.

On the other side, we had to push my mom in a wheel chair on several of the days and we tried extra, extra hard not to touch anyone with the wheelchair but it never failed that people would walk right into it.

Same was said about razr scooters and rollerblades. Probably skate boards as well.

I got blasted on another thread for thinking they are not a bad thing, so I will leve my opinion to this:

1. They are banned in WDW
2. I blame the person wearing them for the inapproriate behavior (or the parents if applicable) not the shoes themselves.
3. I have no problem with them
4. I would not report anyone for wearing them.
5. My daughter has them, loves them and wears them to malls. Dosn't "zoom" people. USes them appropriately.

Sorry, have to ask. How is it appropriate to skate in a mall? I'm really just curious... :confused3

Not everyone knows this when coming from a different state.
I know there are several laws here in Florida I wasn't aware of them, even being a native, but I'm glad I looked them up. Now I know that[size=-1] in Florida, having sexual relations with a porcupine is illegal. :teeth:

I agree, not everyone would know it was illegal, but no skating signs are posted, and it is skating. A little common sense goes a long way, but seems to be in short supply! Bummer about the no porcupine law, luckily I live in Mass, where we can pretty much have relations with whoever, so the Porcupine love is on! :thumbsup2
