Hello all!

I haven’t logged on in a bit and this may be in the wrong section.

I’m supposed to leave for Disney in one week. Recently, my foot has been throbbing and I’ve been miserable. I went to the doctor and had an X-ray and they found a small heel spur. I started a steroid and I’ve been stretching, resting, and icing. Generally it’s feeling better but at the end of the day with minimal movement, it still hurts. My doctor said it was fine to go but to wear good arch support shoes and get inserts.

I’m really torn about this trip. I’m starting a new job so unsure when I can reschedule but also don’t want to be miserable. Any advice.

You could consider getting a wheelchair.

I'd rent a scooter. It will give you more mobility without having someone "push you around." They aren't cheap, but your foot is worth it.

Not that it matters, but is the doctor sure there is where the pain is coming from? I've got lots of foot problems (had reconstructive surgery last year) and there's lots of people who have heel spurs that show up incidentally on an X-ray that aren't necessarily a cause for pain. I have one which doesn't cause any problems, nor was removed during surgery. I had a friend who had them on both heels and was in pain (in the heel area) when wearing shoes and had them removed.

Just throwing things out there because you probalby don't know the answers!! I had a degnerative situation in one of supporting tendons that just started out as pain. Had I knew more in the beginning I think I could have babied it a little better. Just be careful, get really, really good supportive shoes (yes they are $$$$). I second the advice to rent an ECV and use it as much or as little as you need to. I think you can enjoy your trip and take caution with your foot!

I had a flareup of heel spurs once and the one thing that took care of it was me getting the flu and not being able to work out for two weeks. So for me it was basically staying off my foot. Maybe try and because unmobile as possible before your trip. Also my physio gave me a sleeping boot. Some slurs come from the calf/ Achilles shortening while sleeping. This also helped.

I have heal spurs and they are horrible - I feel your pain
I‘ve had cortisone injections in both my feet and they helped a lot. Ask if your podiatrist will do this for you and hopefully that will help.

My mom has suffered with heel spurs on and off for 20 years. These are her tips.

Try the sleeping boot mentioned above. Wear supportive shoes in the house. Do not get a heel callous removing pedicure--but by all means paint your toes a fun color if you are into that. Research ECV rental companies--just so it's an option. Plan on icing and elevating every night of your trip. Sometimes a well timed adult beverage can take the edge off the pain.
