I was looking at dd13 hair and OMG! She blow drys and flat irons her hair. She does use heat protector because certain hair products make her scalp and skin feel itchy. She has a lot of split end and I'm seeing some breakage.

PLEASE

tell me what you use

heat protector for sensitive hair

and

I need to buy her a really good conditioner. Like a live in one or one she leaves in for 10 min then rinses out

any help appreciated

Do u have a "Sallys" near u? the girls in their are pretty knowledgeable and could help u find what u are looking for

I have my swimmer use Mane & Tail leave-in conditioner spray when he has been using clarifying shampoo to get the chlorine out; it is a good moisturizer, but I can't tell you if she might react to it or not; she would have to test it.

Good old VO5 hot oil treatment is worthwhile as well.

I use Biolage conditioning balm. My hair tends to be dry (colored and heat styled plus I live in an extremely dry climate) and this stuff helps tremendously. You might also look into deep conditioning every so often...not at home but at a salon. I like the Redken deep conditioning treatment at Ulta. No product is going to completely keep the hair from getting damaged..any way your daughter can blowdry/flat iron less often? I get keratin treatments every few months that helps keep my hair healthier so I don't have to blowdry/flat iron nearly as often.

For a budget-friendly deep conditioner, I highly recommend "Aussie Moist 3-Minute Miracle". A lot of reviews have said it works just as well, if not better than, the more expensive deep conditioning treatments. I love it and tend to apply it during the beginning of my shower and rinse it out at the end of my shower. I use it whenever I remember to, usually once a week or every two weeks.

I really don't recommend your daughter blowdry AND use a flat iron every day. Hopefully she doesn't use the flat iron every single day. In my opinion the heat protectant sprays don't do much. Has she tried turning the heat down on her flat iron a little to yield the same results but with a lower temperature? Is she using the proper hair brushes? Flat irons are not designed to be used every day so if that is what she is currently doing, I would tell her she needs to alternate using the flat iron with using other styling tools or just leaving it natural after a blowdry. I blowdry my hair daily, but alternate using the flat iron and just throwing it up in a ponytail or something on the days I don't straighten it. My hair is naturally straight, but I like the way the flat iron makes it look...extra straight and shiny and silky feeling. :)

She washes, blow dries and flat irons her hair every other day. Once in awhile she might touch it up with flat iron but she said mainly every other day.

Well, at least she isn't doing it every day. I would suggest getting a deep conditioner to start with like the Aussie 3-minute Miracle and see if that helps...and also see if she can try turning the heat down just a tad on her flat iron.

I and my dd's use cholesterol. Comes in a tub at either Sally's or I think Wally world might carry it. Put it in wet or dry, leave it sit for a while and rinse out. I have had many hairdressers recommend it. Works great for dry scalp too. My ODD has her hair pretty much bleached out and when it looks and feels like straw that's what we do.
Oh, and a good trim!
