A friend of mine just got back from the Magic this week and told me that her husband spoke with a cm re: Key West. Seems that Key West wants to cut back on cruise ships being allowed in and that Disney may cut out the Key West stop on the Western Cruise. I, personally, would love it because I love those three days at sea on the eastern.

What do you all think of this and have you heard anything? Do you think they would add another island or just pilot the boat slower until it reached Grand Cayman.

THis was in the local news down here about a month ago I believe. It was a blurb on the news and then I didn't hear anything more about it.

Don't say it is so! Personally, I'd be a little disappointed if they cut out a port. I love going to ports. I hope they add one exchange instead. :-( I specifically picked the Western route because of the extra port.

oh, no, say it isn't so. I've never been to Key West (or on a cruise for that matter) and I too would be disappointed if DCL took that stop off, but hopefully, they would add another port.

It was mentioned in the Key west Citizen about 2 weeks ago, but it isn't going to happen - believe me - Key West loves their tourist and the economy would belly up big time there if that did happen as when the Navy was pulled out of there in 1972 - I spoke with one of the city commissioners when I read it - just consider it as it isn't going to happen or unless something extremely unusual happens - it was just talk.

Wow! I will be curious to see how this plays out. We were really looking forward to seeing Hemingway's house next May!

I wouldn't be surprised if they cut it out. My sister visits Key West every year and she said that lately they have been over run with cruise ships and it is ruining Key West.

Thanks Shirley for keeping it all in perspective for us! :smooth:

I would hate for them to lose Key West on the Western cruise. I love my sea days, but the Key West stop was great. We had the morning at sea and then got to enjoy the island for the rest of the day into evening. Also I would think Disney would be the last ship they want to leave. They have one of the close in docks which I'm sure goes for more money than RCL was paying being moored out at sea and tendering people in. Just me 2 cents.

We went on #2 Western DCL last May and to be honest- I thought to myself, I can't believe that DCL choose Key West to stop at. It isn't a very family friendly place. My BIL took kids to Aquarium but they still managed to see things in windows (black leather with holes placed where there should be cloth shown on manniquns- water bongs shaped like male organs, etc. It is a great place for adults but being that DCL is a family oriented cruise.....
I would love to go back to Key West with just adults or next time leave my DD on the ship- but I think 3 sea days would be awesome or even another port.
One thing that Key West has that I am wanting to go back for...KINOS!

Hey there - Key West is an ADULT playground tho unfortunalty children see TOO MUCH around the whole wide world - I agree that there should be more for children to do, but since I have been around Key West for 68 years, it would sure surprise me if they did so - believe me at the age of 13, I wrote the local newspaper and asked what was kids my age suppose to do besides go to the park, go to the movies and work - of course we are talking the 40's and it was taken as a joke - Adults do have fun in Key West but you do have to remember there is less than 1/3 real true blue conchs left - believe me if it they had to see them hometown as it is now, they would cry - as for DCL, I believe they really have everyone's interest at heart and this is why so much is offered for kids aboard while the adults go sightseeing. There will be no changes at this time.
OH I forgot - Norm and I will be going back to Key West on the 26th and will be at Keno's - does anyone want any and I will mail it to you - if you do, drop me a note at snelsonbrown@aol.com
Hugssssss from me to you

We cruise without kids. I understand that Disney is a family-oriented cruise, but family doesn't always have to be defined as: husband, wife + kids. My husband and I are a family without kids -- and still a family. We prefer Disney because of the variety and atmosphere. I would hate to see them pull a port because there isn't enough for kids to do.

Just my 2 cents.

CRSNDSNY - from what I understood from my friend, the reason why Key West may be pulled is NOT because it wasn't kid friendly, it was because Key West didn't want ships overrunning their port. It seems like a Key West decision, not Disney's. Anyways, it was just a rumor ;)

I totally understand what you are saying. I was just retorting from a couple other comments on this thread. I just get the feeling sometimes that....well...I don't want to be flamed and it's really not worth it so I will not proceed any further.

Thanks for the clarification LOVETHATMOUSE.

No problem - I wasn't flaming you. I know how things can be and try not to participate in those kinds of replies. Sorry if you took it the wrong way. Have a great day :)

Maybe they will replace Key West with Costa Maya - that would be cool!

I'd love to try something new!
I like to see new places. All ports (aside from CC) will be new to us next May on the Western! Can't wait!

I want to take this time to apologize if I said something that may have offended anyone on this thread - honest if I did, I didn't mean to imply anything against anyone most of all their parenthood - I have children, grands on down the line so I would feel just as anyone else - again please accept my apology.
Sincerely,
Shirley

Last month when we were in Key West, shop owners, and taxi drivers all commented on how they like the "Mickey Boat" because "those people spend money", unlike some other cruise line passengers. One person specifically mentioned his dissapointment with Carnival's passengers.

Re: Costa Maya (sp?) DCL is looking into that port for future cruises.
