Healthy Living from the INSIDE OUT - May 2016 WISH Challenge

@DisPup75 lots and lots of hugs :grouphug: I can't even imagine what would posses a "good friend" to say things like that. Or pass judgement... You never know the nuances of other people's journeys--especially regarding fertility since it's not something people discuss openly... It does weigh in the back of my mind though... a lot of the women in my family were told they were unable to have children. DH and I will cross that bridge when/if we get there knowing that, at least historically, it may be an issue.

At any rate, just echoing others here, but I find it AWFUL how some women tear each other down. Just another reason I love this always positive and supportive group!

Let's talk about the dinner table! What healthy and delicious meals (whether IN or OUT) do you have planned for the weekend?

Well..... the good news is that we do get our first Blue Apron box today since we've gotten back, so at least dinner will be moderately healthy and delicious and definitely under 700 cals. The bad news is I have a full weekend of temptations ahead of me. Open bar, yummy food, company golf tournament tomorrow-- sushi and bottomless mimosa brunch with the inlaws on Sunday.... yeesh! At least I know the dinners will be better since we will be cooking BA....

As for progress-- I'm at the lovely goose egg 0% (actually negative but we're just not gonna talk about that....)

I just cannot get it together since we got back. This week has been bonkers, and historically that's always when I fall to pieces. When I get busy and out of routine, I just eat on the go and not track and it all goes to heck.

I decided to go to MNSSHP on 31st regardless of the price. By then I should be my goal weight, and I just fancy using it to celebrate what we overcome last 2 years and how we rebuild our lives after

It's stupid expensive but I am not spending as much on food now so... worth it
Love MNSSHP. I'll be there that time and I'm sure to group will want to do it, but don't know what date yet. I too will be at goal weight then, and will have to come up with something super cute to wear.

Corral D is go - so so so so happy that I'm in the middle of the pack for the 10K.

Yay! We were corral D for our 10K in January - it's an excellent corral :)

Scale still not a friend of mine. Proper test of my determination really but I am doing the right things. I keep my calories, and the quality of them. I keep my activities up. I am doing my best. It's full week now without loss but I will wait to next Friday and if no result review the situation but intuitively I know I am doing the right things so it's just a matter of not going mad doing too much and be patient but persistent.

Sometimes the scale just doesn't move. It's hard to know why ... but if you know you're doing your best, keep it up for a little bit. Like you said - patience and persistence.

Guys, I hope it's ok to share links to things I read with you that I find motivational. I have no connection to the authors other then having read his books and find them good (in this case). It's in relation to the Biggest Loser posts and he also send an email to his subscribers saying he is disappointed of the negativity

http://www.burnthefatblog.com/burn-it-off-and-keep-it-off-10-keys-to-lifelong-maintenance.php

Thanks for sharing this!! Definitely some interesting stuff to think about - I really like the idea of focusing on people who maintain rather than just people who lose big.

If I have to be honest I keep loosing and gaining the same 5 to 10 kg and the reasons are in his article!

I never put much into the vision, only in the short term goals
I never really disliked overeating, I kept holding to the believe that it's part of who I am
I didn't focus on transition. I would diet right until holiday, blow it all out and struggle to return
I took action when the scale is over 5kg up, not before. His 4 lbs approach may suit better

It's really incredible that you can look at these successful habits and see which ones you don't have. It really gives you a place to start from and hopefully it helps give you some ideas to even more successful!

Let's talk about the dinner table! What healthy and delicious meals (whether IN or OUT) do you have planned for the weekend?

Weekends are both awesome and terrible for me.
Awesome because we eat as a family and I don't really need to worry about forraging for myself as much.
Terrible because it tends to be three course meals and I eat a lot.
I am in the middle of washing some lettuce, so I think my goal for the weekend is to eat bigger salads so that I'm less hungry during the second course. I love a good salad, so hopefully this will work out well for me!

I would also like to post a little Friday woo-hoo. This is not my official weigh in for the weekend - that will come tomorrow, but when I woke up this morning - there was a "1" as the first number on the scale. First time in 13 years! Who would think someone would be so excited to see 199.7 on the scale?! But I was (am)! Once I shower, I will be taking a picture of myself to memorialize this day and this weight. Put it in my "progress" folder on my phone. Happy Friday everyone!

YAY!!! Congrats on hitting Onederland!

---

Okay, I have to run off and deal with my lettuce now ... I'll finish checking in later!

I just cannot get it together since we got back. This week has been bonkers, and historically that's always when I fall to pieces. When I get busy and out of routine, I just eat on the go and not track and it all goes to heck.

I had this after our last trip - when we got back, it took me almost a month to get back on track. It's definitely really hard - but it's also really important! I know you can do this, you just have to force yourself back into a good routine.

---

All caught up! Progress report of 0% for me today ... I kinda let myself go off the rails last night. I'm pretty annoyed at myself, but until I invent a time machine, there's nothing I can do about it now. I just have to learn my lesson and remember to avoid the kitchen on days when I'm not feeling great.

I just wanted to add another YAY for this awesome group. No matter what's going on, everyone here is so supportive and willing to share stories, support, advice, and a good old-fashioned internet hug. It's so amazing to be part of a completely diverse group that comes together to provide support whenever someone needs it! Such awesome people here!

Also - good luck to our racers this weekend, @Dr Gunnie and @courtneybeth. I hope you both have very fun and successful races!

I am the same 0% and have had a totally off plan week. Looking forward to a new start on Monday with Mother's Day on Sunday I'll just wait to Monday to start over.

Let's talk about the dinner table! What healthy and delicious meals (whether IN or OUT) do you have planned for the weekend?

Tonight will probably be chicken of some kind. Sunday I have handed over to the kids - they are responsible for planning and making Mother's Day for me and their grandmother. So we may end up with nothing! lol so far all I have heard from the other room is a lot of arguing.

QOTD - May 6

Let's talk about the dinner table! What healthy and delicious meals (whether IN or OUT) do you have planned for the weekend?

Well..... not sure about tomorrow.... breakfast will probably be the "usual" yogurt and berries. We are going to a movie in the afternoon, so lunch (if I have anything) will probably be some protein and fruit to keep it light to allow some calories for homemade popcorn. Dinner tomorrow night has yet to be determined.

On Sunday (Mother's Day) we will be doing a bit of a road trip to go see my Mom and DMIL. I plan to bring along brunch and dinner (not sure where we are going first, but it will be a two-meal day). Fruit, egg pie (crustless quiche), green salad for brunch and maybe a quinoa salad and rotisserie chicken for dinner.... trying to keep it easy for everyone (including myself!).

Well, eating will be a little off today, due my altered schedule, but tomorrow I'll be having breakfast at Animal Kingdom and dinner at Garden Grill with my boy Chip! Sunday I'm at Magic Kingdom during the day and am planning on a Nutella and Fruit Waffle from Sleepy Hallow(? I think that's right, I always call it Frog Hallow which I know is not correct) for breakfast and salmon from Columbia House for lunch. I'll be at EPCOT in the evening and will most likely munch around the World at the F&G food booths. Can't wait!

SO JEALOUS!! ENJOY!!

Goals Checkin:

Pre-vacation weight: 189... 100% to goal! Almost two pounds lost this week . I kind of feel like my body just took over and did what it needed to do.

Vacation goal: to only gain 3 pounds... We shall see!

Great job getting to goal!!

Do you mind if I make a suggestion (regarding the part I bolded)?

Pick a date and time .... tomorrow morning.... or Monday at breakfast.... or tomorrow at 12 noon... whatever works for you (but make it be within the next few days).... and determine that THAT will be your time to get COMPLETELY 100% back on track. No more excuses, no more "vacation eating" mentality. If you want to eat ice cream, pizza, and chips between now and that time, go ahead. But when that "magic" time starts, remember that you are back on track. Have your "parachute" packed so that you can save yourself if things get busy...... OP snacks, OP dinners planned (and maybe even pre-tracked), tracking method ready to go, fridge full of your favorite fruits and veggies.

Just a suggestion. It is something that has really helped me in the past, especially when I have trouble getting back into the right groove after a vacation.

****************************

Evening friends!

Dinner is done and cleaned up (at least it is for DS and I.... DH is just walking in the door).
I had a small loss showing on the scale this morning, but I'm holding off on reporting until tomorrow in the hopes that it will get a bit bigger.

I'm doing 10 things at once here, so I'll say good-bye for tonight so I can concentrate on at least ONE of them! I'll be back in the morning to say hello and report on my progress for this week..................P

Yay! We were corral D for our 10K in January - it's an excellent corral :)

I thought of you today at Disneyland.... IT RAINED!

The only day it's really rained here all year - so obviously you're in town. Right? Right? ;)

PS Thanks for the well-wishes. I'm so much more nervous for this race than the half marathons I've done. Oh Disney.

Oh man! This is frustrating!!!!

Silly stuff I did
I bought new shoes last week. They are kind of sneakers, but not as good support as my other walking shoes. Instead of trying them for little walk around the block I walked 5.5km to work with them this Thursday. And half way on my way back. Result sore knee + sore foot. I didn't go to the gym on Friday as I don't want to be doing deadlifts with sore knee, enough silliness for one week

I walked in to work yesterday regardless of the sore feet but with proper shoes. I also walked on my lunch - weather was good and we don't get that much good weather in Ireland.

The silly thoughts to skip dinner or walk back from work creeped up. I had to talk myself out of it. I was like I am tired, and cranky and I don't need another walk I need to put my feet up and get a super size salad with delicious grilled chicken and veggies, and some fruit for dessert to refuel and get some rest. (great improvement from my supersize pizza) It's very discouraging when the scale doesn't reflect the efforts and it's very easy to tell others it will show on it's own time but it's frustrating!

Goal for the weekend - stay on track without overdoing it.

I just figured out that I may be out for 12 hours today! I am making myself egg white omelette with a lot of veggies and taking box of baby tomatoes and another one with roasted chick peas & few mandarins to keep me going. Lunch menu reviewed in advance - I have few options to choose between 400 and 700 calories. I will see what the plan is when I meet my friend later but I feel little more prepared.

I will try to take it easy and not increase my walking today as I already predict minimum of 20 000 steps! And yep - comfortable shoes.

Hi Everyone - hope @Dr Gunnie and @courtneybeth 's races are going well!

I woke up to a bit of a disappointment. My 199.7 from yesterday turned into a 200.2 Booo!

I knew it was going to happen though. I had a bigger than usual dinner (Panera Cobb Salad with Avocado) and still felt full this morning. Maybe it wasn't that it was big, but that I didn't eat it until around 8:00pm. Anyway, I woke up thinking - uggh, I feel big! Didn't help that I also got my period yesterday. All kinds of things working against me . . .

But anyway, even with my half pound gain between yesterday and today, my week resulted in a 0.6lb loss, so I am at 6% of my goal.

I went to the pancake breakfast this morning and it was perfect. Three smallish pancakes and two small sausage links. I left feeling like I ate breakfast, but not super stuffed.

I think this little gain will make me more conscious of what I eat at dinner tonight, which is definitely a good thing! Silver linings and all that!

Happy weekend!!!

QOTW - May 7

It's time for our first check-in! If you haven't already, please post or send me your percentage of goal complete sometime before Monday morning. I'll run the results through the special WISH tabulating system and post our progress Monday evening!!

This morning's hike with the dog was cancelled on account of the NEVER ENDING RAIN! I'm thinking this would be a good afternoon for a blanket, a cup of tea, and the Aristocats.

Which leads to the question of the weekend!

What are some of your favorite ways to relax, chill, and take some time for yourself?

I'm working through the past few days of posts a day or so at a time. So much interesting stuff here!!

My big Woohoo for today... The scale read 189.6 this morning!!! Yes, first May goal has been achieved and I am very, very happy about it. Dare I say joyful?

Another woohoo... My feet are not as sore and tender this morning. I haven't figured out what the trigger was to start making them ache, I'm just hoping it isn't the warm temps we had earlier in the week, because that doesn't bode well for WDW. Once again I/they felt much better after pilates last night.

Other than that, this evening I'm going to try and get the rest of the housekeeping chores done, which includes mowing the front yard. Tomorrow evening I have a hair appointment for a pre-vacation touch up. Friday I'm leaving the office around 12noon, have a pedicure appointment in the afternoon, and head to the airport around 7pm... Still haven't confirmed the mode of transportation, but I'll get there one way or another!✈️

Great job hitting goal #1. Woohoo on the new weight decade!!!

My 2 WhooHoo's are that our Homeowners Binder was send to our mortgage company today (well before the deadline of 5/18) also that the current homeowner agree to have the furnace cleaned before the closing.. oh I guess a third is that the appraisal has been ordered and is due by 5/13 I just hope it appraises at what the cost is..

Hope everyone has a great afternoon/evening Michelle

Yay!!! You must be so excited!!

I'm in the process of negotiating a title change at work with appropriate compensation. I'll be following up with them next week and every week thereafter to get it finalized.

I had the discussion on Monday and I'm sure it's in process. I think the title of Marketing Director sounds pretty fancy, eh? :thumbsup2

That's amazing! I shall now refer to you as @courtneybeth, Marking Director Extraordinaire.

My Woohoos:

1) my belt today fit into one hole tighter than usually! This was adequate enough to let me forget the number that I saw on the scale today, as this is proof that the number was crazy water weight, not fat weight.

2) went for my run and when I started I had the sun directly in my back. So I saw my shadow in front of me and it had a very nice hourglass figure!! I relatively narrow hips, a wide rib cage (or as I once tried to translate from German too literally: a wide breast basket - it still amuses my boyfriend that we call a rib cage a breast basket...) and tend to carry most of my fat in my belly area. Having a real waist therefore is a bit of an achievement for me. Of course, the shadow emphasized this a bit, but it definitely was very noticeable! My shadow did look quite hot!

3) my run went really well and I ended my 30 minutes with a pace of 6:49 min/km, this is just below 11 min/mile for you non-metric people!

Woohoo on the new belt hole and the amazing shadow!!! I love the bread basket translation. :)

Happy weekend!!!

I'm a compulsive crafter, so having the time to sit and craft is very fulfilling. During the winter months I'm more into knitting, then transition into fabric work which can be embroidery or quilting. I'm currently midway thru a quilt top that I sure would like to get done... Guess that means I need to pick it up and actually work on it.

It's 2:30pm and I'm currently sitting in the POP lobby waiting for my room... I am so ready for a nap. My plane landed at 6am this morning, I checked in at the hotel around 7am and headed over to AK for EMH and it's been lovely. I just need to sleep now. Fortunately dinner is pretty late because I'm still full from lunch and, did I mention needing the shut eye?

I missed a couple days of lurking, so quick catch up...

HUGS to everyone. It seemed like this week needed it all around.

If I have to be honest I keep loosing and gaining the same 5 to 10 kg and the reasons are in his article!

I never put much into the vision, only in the short term goals

This was my main problem last time. I hit the goal number and was so relieved to have that and the wedding behind me that I just let loose. Couldn't take it anymore! And that did so much more harm than good.

So. I wanted to share this with you all because so many of you were around for my struggle last summer. I went to the doctor to have my thyroid tested because losing weight was difficult, but mainly because I was having these horrific acne break outs that I hadn't experienced before, and also hair loss. Thyroid came back fine, so they told me it was PCOS or stress. Went to the OBGYN who tested me for PCOS. The tests came back inconclusive but my testosterone was slightly elevated, so they put me on birth control and another medication - just to see how I'd respond. If I responded positively, then it must be PCOS! Well the BC made me CRAZY and the other med made me sick, so I dropped them both and suffered through the crazy acne and wore long sleeves all summer (in Memphis - FUN) and to every bridal shower and lathered on makeup. I spent a large part of the summer in tears because no one could tell me what was wrong with me and worried I had PCOS and might have a lot of difficulty when we tried to have kids. Then after the wedding, the acne magically calmed down a ton. Totally figures, right?

Well, a couple of weekends ago, the acne started up again in full force. Then a light bulb went off. What did last summer have in common with the last few weeks? My high protein/low carb diet. The majority of my protein was coming from whey powder and shakes, because there's only so much chicken and turkey you can eat in a day. So I did some research and whey can cause acne, and can cause really bad acne if you're already prone to it. What? Seriously it's that simple?!

Last weekend I cut out the whey-based protein and am already seeing a huge improvement in my skin. Hallelujah. SO frustrated we couldn't have figured this out before the wedding, but whatever. And the slightly elevated testosterone? Well going from absolutely zero physical activity to suddenly lots of physical activity including weights will increase your testosterone until your body is used to it. Not PCOS. So thank you to the 4 doctors and the 6 unneccessary prescription drugs I was given last year for absolutely nothing. Haha. Goodness.

Congrats to @courtneybeth for setting her PR at Tink this morning!

Race was 1:22:00 for my official time, just two minutes shy of the ideal goal.

Tons and tons of walkers everywhere - combining that with rain just didn't bode well for anyone hoping to set a PR. I think I ran the entire time and weaved around people! Had so so so much fun and enjoyed seeing Disney in the rain.

All-in-all... a magical morning.

What are some of your favorite ways to relax, chill, and take some time for yourself?

Ahhhh - I love a good book, watching tv/movies on the couch or at the cinemas when it can be afforded, not often but every now and then I get some shopping time on my own.

Sooo jealous - have a rest and then enjoy - hope you have a great time :D

Great detective work! Your last summer sounds awful you poor thing especially with it leading up to your wedding. Yeah to you for problem solved hopefully - now you just have to get used to eating all that chicken and turkey instead haha. It just shows that sometimes Drs don't see the bigger picture of what is happening and get focused on the typical symptoms.
