Ok, we are having a bake sale at school tomorrow. As treasurer of the booster club (show choir) I have to purchse the items (cannot be homemade must be somewhat "healthy" so we decided it would be easiest to have parents donate money and we--meaning "me" lol--would purchase the items)

So far I have purchased: salted peanuts, sunflower seeds, fruit roll ups, fruit gushers, fruit snacks, pickles, rice krispie treats, pretzels, bottled water with flavor packets and Capri sun.

What else?

Rename it Snack Sale, Bake Sale is baked stuff, pies, cakes, etc. :goodvibes

Started to do that but they have a big selection of fruit in the luch room every day. I wanted to get packets of sliced apples with the caramel dip but its on the "denied" list. :headache:

I am thinking this thing is waaayyy more trouble than its worth.

I thought "bake sale" doesn't really fit anymore. Actually the kids are going to call it something much less "appetizing" than snack :lmao: Some of the stuff on the "denied" list is the very things they want to eat and all of it isn't bad. One item that is sold constantly in the campus vending machines is on the denied list!!

I would say so. Your list is not even that "healthy". I think somebody who is running the "denial list" needs a nutrition course.:rolleyes1

Can you go dairy or refrigerated? That would be healthy.

What about puddings, yogurt, cheeses, muffins & breads with fiber, fruits, etc?

Apples in peanut butter or Nutella instead of caramel?

Good Luck with that job....:rotfl:

Thank goodness celery 'n carrot sticks generally don't come pre-packaged coz I could see some crazy mom cryin' ya shoulda had that stuff too.

I think your list sounds good. :thumbsup2

Rice Krispie treats and pickles look to be the main thing we will be selling!!

I am thinking of yogurt but it would have to be Gogurt which is neither approved nor denied (this list makes no sense) so I will pick that up.

There is some muffins on the list and I debated on those, think I will go back and get them.

Just realized that the fruit roll-ups are deneid, they will be going back to the store. The Gushers and the other brand of fruit snacks are not on either list so they can stay. ggggggrrrrr

The Food Service Lady says that if a particular brand of item is denied we can just get that item in another brand. Seems kind of odd to me, but I am just doing what I am told.

Wish I could find some kind of pudding snack that didn't need a spoon--that would probably go well with the younger grades.

I noticed that Little Debbie Peanut Butter Bars are on the approved list?? :confused3 Not something I would have considered "healthy"

What about raisins or pretzel sticks dipped in Yogurt and then bagged?

The list maker needs to do the shopping. :sad2:

So this is not really a "healthy list" but a "contract list" it sounds like. Meaning you cannot compete with certain food items sold in your school, maybe?

You should see my dd's HS "School Store"....candy and snacks galore. Thank goodness for normalcy.popcorn::

What about popcorn?:lmao:

This seems like such a bother -- is this supposed to be a fundraiser for the boosters? Just seems like more effort than it's worth.

How can you have a Bake Sale without cookies and cupcakes????

I really hate that everything has to be healthy these days. Seems like we are going to get to the point where you can only have water.

I teach my kids moderation. Having a treat every once and awhile makes life a little more enjoyable.

I'd forgo the "sale" and put the money the parents donated into the coffers

What about ice cream cups or something you could keep in a cooler if pulled from your freezer, placed in ice and then sold shortly - Go-Gurts frozen are decent

Ice cream bars or frozen treats are a great idea! Can you do those OP?

Seriously. This sort of thing is why nobody wants to volunteer.

I'd be wary of any peanut containing item because of allergies.

How about packets of crackers? Maybe with cheese if available.

And once I was done with this, I'd never do it again.

Not sure on the ice cream, I will have to check. We are going to be able to do the sale from the basketball gym concession stand so that will give us a little more equipment to work with. Good idea though, thanks!

Is popcorn considered "homemade"?

How about yogurt covered raisins?

Exactly (on the bolded). If it was just a bake sale it wouldn't even be a problem but this health list is driving me NUTS!!

The list comes from the State Dept. of Ed. so no go on the list maker doing the shopping.

Its a really odd list though. I mean there is a list of approved items and a list of denied items. And a whole world of food not on either list. Like candy isn't on either list-none, no kind what so ever. I would think "well, common sense should prevail" but every chip known to man is listed on one list or the other so I guess they didn't think common sense would tell us about chips. :rotfl:

Popcorn is not on either list either. We are going to get some microwave popcorn though and sell it.

There used to be a brand of crackers and cheese snacks with slices of chedder cheese and few crackers (not the yucky spreadable stuff). Maybe Land o Lakes or something? I will look for that too.
