HEADS UP....Dream/Magic Itinerary Change Fall of 2014

I believe the DCL Dream class ships are too large for current lock system, but recall hearing there is an additional set being built that will accommodate larger ships.

That is correct. The current Magic size will fit. Technically after the duck tail is added the Magic class is too big unless the canal commission exercises some waivers.

The new lock system will accommodate the Dream class but they won't be ready until 2015.

FYI...my TA just gave me a heads up. She is hearing rumors that the Magic wont be ready to rebook until June 18th.

Looking at the DCL website, the Wonder's last scheduled October cruise sails on 10/6/14, and she was not previously scheduled for November or December trips. It's possible she'll do the major dry dock beginning mid-Oct and be ready to go for the holidays...

There's info that the Wonder is scheduled to swap to Miami starting on October 21, 2014. Disney Cruise Line blog has the details:

We weren't talking about 2015 though, we are talking about 2014. It sounded as if the poster was wondering if a special Hawaiian cruise etc was being planned for next fall for the Dream when all these open changes are taking place?

I know we weren't talking about 2015. But that's the soonest a Dream class vessel can fit through the Panama Canal. My point was, don't get your hopes up until after that.

Same dates as the OP I was set to sail Nov 13 which is apart of our honeymoon. We are completely bummed because we chose our wedding date based off this cruise and now they are bumping it to before we even get married :crazy2:.

So I went online to change the Oct 23rd date to after our wedding and noticed is said for Jan. 2015 and it was $3000 :scared1: but after reading this I now realize that it's just them messing with stuff before they figure out what their doing. Either way I moved our cruise date to Dec 12th because it really didn't make sense to go on a honeymoon before your married :p However instead of taking our honeymoon right after the wedding we will have to wait a month :crazy2: not too bad but still a huge inconvenience with traveling.

Oh ugh, I'm sorry. No chance to rearrange the wedding? :goodvibes;)

We waited a week between wedding and honeymoon, and it was a really good week. We got all the paperwork done, like opening the joint bank account, actually turning in our marriage license and leaving with certified copies of it in hand (weirdly romantic, even though it's just a govt registrar's office!), etc. Of course you probably have to go back to work in between, but then that might be fun, too, because you'll get the true married life experience in between, then you get to take a vacation shortly after!

My brother and his wife never had a honeymoon, because she was starting a job and he was going to Air Force Basic. So they just treated every vacation for the next 10+ years as their belated honeymoon. Worked for them!

Our planned family vacation was too affected by the change. I had planned a B2B on the Magic ( Nov 9 and Nov 14 ) out of Miami. We too wanted to sail on the Magic mainly due to the upcoming enhancements. The one good thing was that this cruise was to be a surprise ( only I knew ) so no one other than me is disappointed.

I decided to call because I was not willing to wait 2 weeks and lose out on rates that are currently at one price, and may be substantially higher in a couple of weeks as other ship's availability fills up.

The very helpful Disney Cast Member was able to advise that new itineraries should be posted on June 18. He also advised that there was currently no drydock or enhancements planned for the Disney Wonder that they were told of. Considering that the Magic's enhancements were announced in April 2013 ( please correct me if I am mistaken ) I was not willing to wait until what could be April 2014 to find out if the Wonder would have similar plans, so I decided to switch to the Fantasy for Nov 2014. No longer a double dip, but visiting the same ports of call and for less money than two cruises with a better room ( less days though )

I am glad I called as I am at least in control of my vacation choices and would be upset if the rates jump substantially between now and June 18. I may still call back and request a complimentary OBC if I see people are getting them, but if I don't - its all good - nothing ventured nothing gained.

I am surprised if anyone has been able to book airfare already so that should not be on anyone's sticking point. And while it may be an inconvenience and certainly a disappointment to some - Disney does reserve the right to change its upcoming cruises and itineraries as it see fit, as does cruisers reserve the right to change their vacation plans. I do thank Disney for announcing this change now rather than later which in my opinion minimized my personal disappointment. Will have to check out Miami another time!

Sounds like your making the best of it. Poor Wonder will it be the ugly little sister ?

I wasn't affected with this but seems easy fr me to say better now then 3 months out I would think but I am not in this situation...

From the information I found when the Magic moves to PC she will be doing 7\ night cruises departing on Sunday to the western Caribbean.

While it did not affect my plans i truly feel for all those that wanted to see the NEW Magic and were bumped to the Wonder:sad2:

I am really hoping the Magic 7 day's are reasonably priced. I would definitely switch our Thanksgiving ( now on the Wonder out if Miami) back to the Magic.

Starting in Jan, 2014, the Magic will be doing 3 and 4 night Bahamian cruises out of P.C.

We were on the Christmas sailing, it would have been our first time on the Magic and would have meant we'd sailed on all 4 ships :guilty:

I'm hoping so but as our current cruise is a 5 night that includes Christmas day I'm guessing the extra 2 nights on Western, plus a Christmas cruise, will make it too expensive for us

So I am confused if the magic will be doing 7 day cruises when it moves to PC does that mean April 2014 cruise will be affected. it is already scheduled to be in PC by than and I am booked on a 4 night cruise April 21,2014 should I expect changes?

Probably no changes for the Magic in spring 2014.

The previous Magic 2014 schedule was PC for Jan-May, Europe May-Sep, from Puerto Rico Sep-Oct, then Miami Oct-Dec.

The change underway swaps Miami for PC Oct-Dec.

We also are on the Thansgiving 2014 out of Miami. I am really dosappointed about the switch. We booked before they announced the upgrades to the Magic so I am sure I will still be happy with the wonder, but I really wanted to see the new additions. I bet they changed it just so they can charge more for the now nicer ship. I doubt I will be able to change but I am still going to have the TA send info about the new iteniaries when the are available.

My guess for the swap is that the Wonder Dry Dock won't happen in the fall 2014. MIA is not doing well, whereas PC is still doing great.

Originally the Wonder would sail out of PC doing 7n Eastern. This would be assuming it was fully refurbished after it's dry dock. The Magic, even though newer, would continue out of MIA.

If the Wonder dry dock won't happen, then it makes sense to move the Magic to PC, as those sailings would sell much better than the MIA ones.

Basically, leave the non refurb ship in MIA. Once dry dock happens, I bet that would change.

The move of the Dream? To accommodate those flying weekend to weekend. But if they were planning on having the Wonder doing 7n eastern, why didn't they do this earlier when they announced the 2014 itineraries?

I'm pretty frustrated about this. We actually switched from a cruise over spring break next year to the Halloween cruise on the Magic. It worked well with my daughter's school schedule and we were excited to try the new Magic. We decided to do WDW over spring break instead, and since we are DVC members, we have already booked our room for that week and can't switch back. We don't want to sail on the Wonder unless it too has been reimagined, and we can't afford the time or money for a seven-night cruise. If it pans out that our cruise is on the Wonder now, like it sounds it will, we will probably cancel. It's a bummer. We were really looking forward to it.

We were booked on the Magic Dec 7 2014 5 night Western out of Miami, and I never received any email about changes, I just happened to be attempting to reprice a different category and it said the cruise was sold out, I thought to myself, ummmm I seriously doubt that! Only by coming to the trusty boards did I figure out what was going on!

Logged into check my sailing info and of course it's all jacked up but it does now say we are sailing on the Wonder instead of the Magic. I will be changing or cancelling that as soon as I can see the Magic's options for that week. We also really wanted to sail the Magic, not the Wonder. :sad2:

Super bummed about it as the cruise we initially chose was going to work out perfectly with the cruise we have booked on the Fantasy for Dec 13 2014. But I will wait to see what the choices are for the Magic, who knows it may end up working out better for us in the end if we can still sail on the Magic and leave out of PC instead of MIA since we are sailing out on the Fantasy right afterwards. If nothing else maybe it wasn't meant for us to do 2 cruises in a row lol:rotfl::rolleyes:
