Headphones for use with a toddler?

We're flying JetBlue to get to WDW in December. They offer DirectTV for everyone, and even though we're not a big TV-family (well, especially with DD), IMO, anything that keeps her (and us!) happy during the flight is totally fine. :) I'd like for her to be able to listen to something we may find on the DirectTV programming (no idea what that'll be like), but I'm not sure what to do about headphones... I don't really have any, so I need to get some anyway, but I'm not sure what to do about DD. Are there toddler-friendly headphones (she'll be 2 in January)? My fear is that the noise would be too loud for her little ears if I can't control it well. Or headphones that we could share somehow (even if we each just get one "ear" piece)? I'd love any suggestions you have! Thanks!

I am interested, too. We are going to take the laptop, so she can watch Disney stuff on the way down, but want to get her headphones, so she doesn't disturb others. I know I'm going to need to practice with these for her, so any ideas are appreciated. :confused3

I've been searching for the same thing. Toddler sized headphones. When you find some that work will you please let me know? :)

Also, if you both want to be able to use headphones, you could buy a jack splitter so you can each listen to your own pair of headphones. No need to share a pair!

In the past I was told that you can get them at Walmart--I had a hard time finding any at our local store and when I did find some they were in the toys, not the electronics section--and they were too big for our 1 year old, but work for our 4 year old just fine. (I do not know the brand, they were pink and fold down for storing).

The toddler actually uses headphones from gearforkidz.com, they are more expensive than Walmart, but I love them. They fit her little head and there is a volume control on the headphones themselves.

I had also considered buying some from ifrogz as I love the tadpole ipod case and thought if the headphones were of similar quality I would be happy with them.

So--try Walmart first, maybe your store has a better selection than mine did. But if you don't mind payig a little more the kidz gear ones are good IMHO.

Search for Califone Kids. They are widely used by schools and libraries for preschoolers. You will have better luck buying them online or from a teacher's supply store.

I'm not sure brand but i would suggest ones that go over the ear and not the earbuds type. My kids never can get the bud ones to feel right. My DS used to use his portable dvd player all the time, he'd watch his Thomas the Train movies while we watch whatever we wanted. He'd put it on the coffee table and have his headphones on and be quiet content! They were the ones that went over the ears as well.

I picked up a pair at Target in the same isle with the portable DVD players. They're Sony brand (ours are pink, but I'm pretty sure there was another option). They have volume control, so they don't get too loud. The age range on them was for slightly older children (I think 4 and up or so) but they looked pretty small to me, and they fit her pretty well. She was perfectly content to watch her DVDs on the plane.

Good luck!

My DS (2) is wearing the cheapy earphones you get on the plane right now acctually. He gets to watch a couple a Chip and Dale cartoons on Youtube before he goes up to bed. We had a whole bunch collected over the years and were surprised how well they worked for him. They are not very durable but for $2 what can you expect. He has learned to be very good with them, sitting still and not pulling on them. I control the volume on the compter itself so it is not too loud in his ears. We tried the ear bud ones (smallest size we could find) and they were too big for him.

Thanks for all the info! I hadn't actually checked yet, which I guess is part of my problem. :) I definitely appreciate the places to look1

If you have a Five Below store, I bought mine there--they are comfy for hte kids-they are like real earphones, but without the band in the middle---they just clip over the ears...DS4 loves them with his dvd player...DSalmost2 didn't like them, but he is almost 2 he doesn't like anything right now!

...I found the perfect toddler/preschooler headphones this summer at Kohl's. I wanted some over-the-head headphones as opposed to earbuds for my little ones, since they can't keep the buds in their ears. I found some cute plush headphones with animals on the earphone parts. Sort of reminds me of those cute little animal earmuffs kids wear in the winter. But they were headphones. My daughter's is a mouse and my son's is a dog. Super cute.

I also found my oldest daughter a speaker pillow. It has a headphone jack for her walkman/ipod/etc but the sound comes out of a small speaker inside the pillow, so she can lay down on it and listen. That also came from Kohl's, in the department where they sell bedding.

These things were perfect for my kids.
