DH and I took advantage of the Disney Visa $99 for a 2 bedroom. We are meeting another couple and will be there 2/19-2/22. Our teen DSs will be staying at home. (yes, they are envious ;) )

DH and the other couple are golfers, but I am not. I certainly don't care if they take a morning to head out to the golf course. We will have two cars, and I will meet them somewhere when they are finished golfing.

I will take advantage of the time and do something special for myself. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. If the weather is nice, I may rent a bike and take a long ride along the beach. I also don't mind joining a cooking class or something like that if anything is offered at the resort. I will have a car, so I can go anywhere on the island. What I would not want to to is go to the outlets. :( Just not my thing-I would rather do something I can't do at home.

Thanks for any ideas!

If the weather is nice enough for golfing, you can definitely go to Harbour Town and climb the lighthouse. It gives a great view of the area, plus Harbour Town is just a neat little place to visit. (There is a $5 charge to bring your car into the Sea Pines Plantation, however.) While you're there you can go to South Beach and pick up a Salty Dog t-shirt. :teeth:

You can also go to the Coastal Discovery Museum, which is along Hwy 278 just after you come onto the island. It's not very big, but it can be an interesting place to go. They may also have brochures of other things to do in the area.

Be sure to ask at the front desk. There are some very historic places on the island that most people don't know about -- some tabby ruins of slave quarters and of Fort Mitchel (in Hilton Head Plantation) come to mind. If Connie is working at the recreation window, ask her; she does the Hilton Head Island tours that the resort sometimes offers. (If one is going on while you're there, it's worth the $20 or so to take it!)

It sounds like you're not into shopping. Aside from the outlets, there are all kinds of boutiques scattered throughout the island. Unless you live in a touristy-type area, they're probably at least a little different than what you can do at home. (No, they're not all beach/t-shirt/souvenier places!!)

The resort's activity schedule should now be available for the week starting Sunday 2/13, which will include the day you arrive. The front desk will fax it to you if you call then and you can see if Chef Gordon is offering any of his Longview Cooking Club activities on Saturday, so that you can plan for that. It will also give you at least a little idea of what else may be offered through the resort, although they may vary a little bit from week-to-week.

Have a great time! I'm sure you won't get bored -- unless you want to! ;)

WowDisneyaholic-thanks for the great tips. I may have to look into the museum/historic activities. DH would like that if I asked him to go along, but he would much rather go golfing! :) I think I remember passing the Coastal Discovery Museum before.

I would wait for everyone before heading to Harbour Town. I know our friends joining us would like to go there as well.

I am going to give HH a call now and get an activity schedule faxed to Dh's work.

.....but then, being bored doesn't sound too bad either ;)

Thanks again!

Hi!
DH golfs one or two times every time we go to HH. Last year I went on a Dolphin Watch one day, once I did the "Members" tour (remember, that's every Wednesday), this year he's golfing on Tuesday, specifically so that I can go on the HH tour. That tour has been on Tuesday for the past two years-I hope they don't change it now. But I always look at the resort activities for something to do while he's golfing. For example, doing the Beach Nature walk without him.

Do you enjoy horseback riding? My DD and I went riding at Lawson Stables in Sea Pines while my DH and Ds golfed during our Thanksgiving trip to HH. It is a really nice ride through a nature preserve with some pretty little lakes. We saw some turtles and one fairly large gator!

I called a timeshare resellers number today and she lives in HIlton Head...said it was 70 degrees! Great! Go beachcombing! Do you play tennis...there are tennis clinics everywhere I would imagine (tho I haven't been there for gulp...20 years.

I was looking at a HH contract for sale at a good price...so if you don't mind, when you return, PM me with a report of what you thought of the resort.
Thanks and have a great time!

LOL canada!!

Belle-we stayed there twice and absolutly loved it. This will be the first time without kids so I am ready to relax and have fun. (not that I didn't have fun with our kids ;) ) I like the idea of having the marsh side of the resort and the beach side of the pool house.

The weather looks pretty good and I found out there is awinter rate of bike rentals $15/length of stay!! I think a bike, the beach, and a good book or two may be my plan!
