~He didn't drink the Kool Aid.. He bathed in it!August TR~12/13 PG45 The End

I am so far behind...I've had one of those weeks...between work and galas and plays I have hardly been home! I tried to catch up on all my threads last night but then my dad popped in for a visit so I'm going to get caught up now!

That was beautiful Dawn! You have an amazing young lady but we all know they don't come that way...it's hard work and lots of love invested by everyone! I know how proud and happy you are....and as your friend and a mom I am so happy for YOU!!!!

Glad you're caught up :)

I hope you had a wonderful visit with your dad!

Thank you. I truly believe in the proverb "It takes a village to raise a child" and Caitlin has been blessed her whole life with lots of people who have taught her and loved her. Thank you!

As Princess Caitlin's grandma I just want to add how special she is to me. I had been going through a very difficult time and finding out I was going to be a grandma was a very special blessing. I have been fortunate in being able to share her life and could not think of anyone I would rather have for a grandson than Josh. I love them both and am looking forward to their wedding next year.

I lurked on your last trip report and was excited to read this one too. I just wanted to say I cried when while I was reading about your proposal. That is probably the most awesome proposal I've ever heard about and to see pictures of it too!!

I am new to this so please bare with me. So I am here to give you my take on the day of our engagement and tell you how I felt. Here we GO!

So the best moment in my life was about to take place. You have no clue how nervous I was, but I will first explain the plan and the events leading up to the proposal.

First of all my mornings are very precious to me as I LOVE my sleep!!!! I need a good hour before doing anything or I tend to not be such a happy camper. I came to realize that these wonderful people I was planning on starting a life with could go with no sleep at all.:sad2:
I was woken up at 6:30am, which is way to early for me. We all had agreed to go to the Magic Kingdom and have breakfast at Cinderellas Castle. This was all part of the plan but the Princess did not know a thing.

Before breakfast and the proposal took place I wanted to volunteer for the flag retreat ceremony. It is a military Honors ceremony in which the U.S Flag is lowered and put up for the night so it is not left out at night unprotected from the elements and to keep it safe from those who would desicrate it. I gave my information to the Manager in charge and we were on our way to meet mom and dad for breakfast.

I decided to propose at the castle because it is the only thing that mom, dad and I could think of to make her fantasy and dream proposal come true. After all she is a princess to me and all who know her. Being the Prince of Italy I had to make it something she would never forget and then some.

We sat for breakfast and after ordering our food said I had to go use the restroom. That was of course a way for me to slip away and give the kitchen Manager the rings I had gotten her. He knew exactly what to do with them as this was all pre-arranged. After we had finished eating they were to bring her ring out on a silver platter with a cover. Needless to say I was very nervous and did not eat all of my food, which is unheard of!:scared1:

So we finished eating and discussing the days events making sure Princess Caitlin thought we were leaving, hoping to throw her off. I saw the CM coming with the platter and knew it was time. What mom did not know was that I did see the platter on its way but she did not know I did. She repeatedly kicked me under the table as if she was trained by the Special Forces herself as Caitlin did not notice. :thumbsup2 I was playing it cool and did not want to give it away. At this point I was no longer nervous as I handle stress in the public eye very well. :cool2: I was a recruiter in the Air Force and a big part of what we do is public speaking. So I had this in the bag so to speak. :woohoo:

When the platter was was set on the table the CM said "your Prince has ordered a special desert for you" and walked away so the photographer could get his shots. Caitlin looked a little puzzled but I knew that she knew what was going on. I stood up in front of mom, dad, and my soon to be fiance and lifted the lid to the platter. Did I mention there were every bit of 60 to 70 people in there eating, including the CMs and the princesses walking around. Inside the platter was a bed of red roses, 5 stones, a glass slipper and inside the slipper was the engagement set. The 5 stones represent a pair of penguins. In nature a male penguin gathers 5 stones for his soon to be mate. If she accepts them then they will be together till death. Her favorite animal is a penguin and this is why I chose to add this into the package.
She was taken aback when she saw that all in front of her. I dropped to one knee at her side and said "You make me the happiest I have ever been, will you make me the happiest man alive and be my wife". Even though I knew the answer I still had that "I dont know feeling".:confused3 She looked at the rings, mom and then dad and they were all in tears. She then looked at me and said "YES" with a huge smile, hug and kiss. :thumbsup2

This so far in my life is the happiest I have ever been. :yay: We then got pictures with all the princesses including Belle who happens to be my princess's favorite. The CM's were amazing and this would not have been possible without them. My new mother and father are absolutely amazing. This would not have happened at all without their help and blessing when I asked for their blessing.

Mom and dad never skip a beat and it is great to have them in my life. They have taken me in as their own son already and there is no way to even say how I feel for them. Their parents are also very good people and i love this whole new family I am now apart of. :goodvibes

My fiance "Princess Caitlin" is the most caring, sincere, beautiful, funny, and intellectual person I have ever had the Honor to call my friend and now companion for life. I am the luckiest man alive.

Now since you all know I handle stress in the public eye so well, I have another story that you have already heard about. :surfweb:

I love attention and always will. The Flag ceremony I volunteered for was the same day as our engagement, So when I say this was the best day of my life, I mean it. I helped retire the flag at the Magic Kingdom. I carried the Nations Flag that i love and protect with all my heart, down main street Disney in front of thousands of people. I was so Honoredand humbled to do this. I was in the Honor Guard at every base I have been stationed at and have done countless military Honors funerals. This is well up there with those experiences and i will never forget this day for the rest of my life for more than a few reasons. I got to share my military life personally with my new family and that means more to me than any detail I did while on the Honor Guard team.

I hope you all enjoyed my thoughts on what happened. I'm really looking forward to my future with my new family and tackling what may come.

Lots of love,

~Josh~ AKA.... Prince of Italy

Aww Josh that was SO cute :goodvibes PrincessCaitlin is so lucky to have found you! The whole plan was really well thought out and it sounds like it was an absolute success! Very nice job! I'm so glad you enjoyed Disney and had an amazing experience! Congratulations to you too :wizard:

Josh it was so nice to hear your side of the story and you described it perfectly. I am so very happy for you two.

Awhhhhhh! That was so sweet! I love hearing all the different sides to this story, it makes it even more special!
You two are so lucky you found each other and I know your future together will be wonderful! :goodvibes

Welcome to the boards Josh!!! Your recounting made me tear up - it was so beautiful! I wish you and Caitlin all the best and look forward to reading about the rest of your trip and your wedding preparations.

Josh you have succeeded in doing what my family loves to do ...make me cry. For some reason something is always considered a success if they make me cry. I am thrilled to be getting you for a grandson and you did a great job on your first tr.

Firstly, welcome to the boards, Josh! :welcome: Glad to have you here. It's so nice to hear your side of this story during this moment. From what Caitlin and her mom have told us, it was magical and it seems just the same for you. You two are totally perfect for each other and it's great how you went the distance to even get up early on vacation, though I'm sure you understand why that happens now ;) I must add, I love your patriotism, the eagerness to show respect for our country, which isn't given enough credit, especially during these hard times. I wish you both the best and hope you have a wonderful life together! (:

That was awesome to read, Josh! You have me in tears over both stories from your special day.

Beautiful side of your story!! I am so glad you were "brave" enough to join the Dis and share!! Very sweet of you to try and think of the most magical way to propose!! And add the flag ceremony at the end of the day...you had one memorable day!! :yay: Oh and I know your pain on not being a morning person. My family knows to give me at least one hour. Disney does seem to change that for me though and I am ready to go!

I am new to this so please bare with me.

Yes you are! So :welcome: to the DIS! :goodvibes

So the best moment in my life was about to take place. You have no clue how nervous I was

Oh yes I do! When I proposed, we were sitting side by side on a park bench. My (now) DW put her head on my shoulder. My heart was beating so fast and so loud that she could hear it through my shoulder and thought I was breaking up with her 'cause I was mad!

She repeatedly kicked me under the table as if she was trained by the Special Forces herself as Caitlin did not notice.

Sounds like you better treat Caitlin right or you'll have one tough MIL to deal with! :lmao:

Mom and dad never skip a beat and it is great to have them in my life. They have taken me in as their own son already and there is no way to even say how I feel for them. Their parents are also very good people and i love this whole new family I am now apart of. :goodvibes

That's terrific! And I love how you already call Caitlin's parents 'mom and dad'.
Many blessings for the years ahead. :goodvibes

Loved hearing your side of the story Josh! Congrats again btw! You seem so nice and perfect for princess caitlin. Love the idea of a disney proposal :) The castle was the absolutely perfect place to propose! Glad everything went so well for the big proposal. You must have been so stressed on the big day about everything doing well. The penguin stones were adorable, especially around the slipper :) also glad you had such a great experience with the flag ceremony as well. Also, you did a great job on your post for the TR, especially since it was your first big post on here. It was very nice and detailed and perfect for this site!

Okay - had to dash off and find the tissues after reading your lovely first post Josh. Your love for Caitlin really shone through in your words. :lovestruc
