~He didn't drink the Kool Aid.. He bathed in it!August TR~12/13 PG45 The End

You have me crying like a little baby! Mostly because as a mother of a quickly growing girl I understand where you are coming from! I think it is so wonderful that he is such a great fit and it has to be comforting seeing how much he loves Caitlin! What a perfectly magical day! And how wonderful that the wedding gets to happen at WDW!! :goodvibes

Aww  It seems you never notice how truly quickly time passes until you have children. I always tell people to enjoy their little ones because they'll be grown before you know it!

It is a comfort, thank you. Dale and I both feel we are gaining a son and not losing a daughter.

It was an incredible day and I am so excited she gets a Disney proposal and wedding :)

Awwww... it is so great to hear about how all of this played out for you, being the mother. When you say on the first date, you knew, that's pretty amazing, usually from what I hear (and I'm only 15, of course), relationships take months/years to really be relationships, not dates, or to convince people, but based on this, it is proven possible (Pixie dust...). The way you explain all this, it is only fitting the proposal and wedding happen in Disney. But what a magical way to start off your first day in the parks! (:

Thank you :)

It was truly magical for all of us :goodvibes

Congratulations to you and Dale, also, for having such great kids in your life to share all of the joys! So very exciting to be proposed to in Disney World, when you all love it so much. I wish I had been at CRT that morning for breakfast and have Caitlin & Josh's story to tell, as part of the "crowd"!!

So looking forward to hearing & SEEING more...Thanks so much for sharing with us.

We would have loved to have all our Dis friends there with us! We're so glad that we get to share it with you here anyway :goodvibes

Oh Dawn - that was lovely!!!!!

I can just image you envisioning Caitlin as a little girl and now here she was getting engaged in one of the most magical ways possible. That really was a true celebrity moment. How absolutely wonderful!!!!! Very cool idea. You must have been really nervous! And Josh - does he still have bruises on his ankle from your kicks? :rotfl:

Thank you Mary Ellen :)
I think I was as nervous as Josh
He was a good sport about my kicks and never mentioned it

Love the idea of hearing everyone's view on the proposal :) My brother is getting married in 2 months (today it is actually 2 months exactly because they are getting married on December 3rd) so my family is very framiliar with all of the wedding/proposal stuff. Like you family this is a big deal for us as a family because even though this is the middle child it is the first of the three children in the family (me and my two brothers (both of whom are older)) so i totally get the emotion behind the day. Like you guys we knew about a month beforehand that my brother was going to propose and like you guys we definitely were not surprised this was happening, My brother and his fiancee are very well suited for each other. We ended up going on vacation with her right after my brother got the ring and he wasn't planning on proposing untill a few weeks later so it was really hard to keep it a secret in that setting. On the day of the proposal (It was labor day of 2010 right after i had just started my freshman year of college) I was home because obviously i didn't want to miss this. My brother's plan was to have 4 of both of their close friends help him sing a song he wrote for her and then at the end of the song he popped the question. He wanted to have the house to themselves for the big question so unfortunately i didn't get to witness it live :( but my mom and i went shopping and my dad went on a bike ride. we were just out for a couple of hours and by the time we got back he had already asked her (and they had already put their changed relationship status on facebook, which was a debate between my mom and i since my mom thought they wouldn't change it right away). since this had been a secret for the past month i ran all the way back to my house and my brother and his fiancee and their friends were gathered around sitting and talking. I noticed she did have the ring on her finger and started squealing like a little girl and i bolted inside and we started jumping up and down and screaming with delight. For me it was really exciting because i don't have any sisters so having a soon ot be sister in law is very exciting. My brothers both were laughing at me because of my excitement. Point of this long story? I totally get the emotions you were feeling on this day and my mom in particular would understand this because she was feeling very emotional about the engagement on this particular day.

Aww thank you for sharing your family's experience! I love how a young couple getting engaged is such an exciting time for the whole family! I can't imagine how hard it would be for everyone to keep a secret though!

It's funny you mentioned Facebook. I pulled rank that morning and told Josh and Cait they couldn't post on Facebook until they'd called his mom and Cait's grandparents. I didn't want any of them learning of it first from Facebook. Of course my dad wasn't home when they called and his wife saw it on Facebook and my mom was at work but she already knew it was going to happen. They did get ahold of Josh's mom right away though.

Dawn,

Love hearing about the engagement from your perspective and am looking forward to hearing from the guys. I was laughing so hard when I got to the part about you kicking Josh - too funny! I love how close your family is. I am assuming Caitlin is an only child since I have never heard talk of another child. I am an only child myself and have a great relationship with my parents. They embraced my husband like he was their own son. I see alot of similarities between your family and mine.

I am SO looking forward to hearing about the wedding plans. Since I have two boys, I won't have the fun of helping to plan a wedding.

Aww thank you.
He was a good sport about the kicking
Thank you, I feel very blessed that we are so close. Yes Caitlin is an only. I had some medical complications during my pregnancy with her and was told if I ever got pregnant again it would be 9months of bed rest so Dale and I decided that since were blessed with a beautiful, healthy baby she would be our one and only.
What a wonderful compliment that you would see similarities between our family and yours. We feel the same way about Josh that your parents do about your husband. Dale finally gets a son to do "guy things" with and he is no longer outnumbered
So glad you'll be following along with the wedding plans. We are looking forward to sharing it all with our Dis friends :) Hopefully your boys will end up with wonderful girls who include you on all the planning and excitement.

So that's why you and Dale didn't look nearly as surprised as Caitlin- you knew it was coming. That's really sweet that Josh asked for both of you blessing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the engagement. Sounds like a very emotional moment for everyone.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us! My son is getting married this coming June. He proposed where they had their first date. That evening we were all gathered at a restaurant to "celebrate his birthday". When the family gathered, Julie (my future daughter-in-law) sat down next to me instead of next to my son. I didn't think too much of it, then Dan announced that they were engaged! I squealed, laughed and cried at the same time. Then I hugged her.

It is so special to be a part of that momentus occassion.

Enjoy your time planning! I will so enjoy reading about the rest of your magical trip!

Nope it wasn't a surprise but it sure was hard keeping it a secret

You're welcome. Thanks for reading! :)
