HDDR question

All that was available for our first trip to HDDR is Cat 3 seating. Will I be disappointed with this? Should I rethink my decision (obviously I will keep checking everyday for a Cat 2 to pop up.)

Also, are you seated by your arrival time? Should we get there super early to have the best Cat 3 seats??

Your table is assigned in the order ADR's are received, not by the time you arrive at Pioneer Hall.
I assume you are wanting to use DDP credits and only Cat 3 is available - correct? We always pay OOP for Cat 1 seating. It is worth it to us.
I can not comment on Cat 3 seating.
Good Luck

First time we went, we did cat.1. We were about 3 tables back from stage and a little off center. Second time, we did cat 2 - we were about 4 rows back from the stage, but closer to the side, but not under the balcony. Last time we also did cat 2, but ended up in the balcony - directly facing the stage. I didn't like balcony nearly as much as main floor. I wouldn't risk a cat. 3!

The first reservation, cat 1 - was made about 5 weeks out. The other 2 were made at 180 days!

By all means continue to check to see if you can get cat 2 seats, but I doubt that you would regret cat 3 seats. We've been seated in all 3 categories and actually enjoyed the cat 2 balcony seats the most and the cat 1 seats the least ( I ended up with a sore neck from looking up at the stage :confused3).
The food's the same, the show's the same. It's just the distance to the stage that differs (and it's not that huge a place).

We've always had Category 3 seats, on the balcony, and have never had a problem with them. We've always enjoyed ourselves just fine.

Here's the view from our seats in 2010:

HOOP-DEE-DO-REVIEW CAT-3 SEATING:

1) Cat-3 isn't bad, if
. . . you don't mind turning around - one half of seats face away from stage
. . . you might have a pillar in your way - five posts per side
. . . your kids are tall enough - short kids might have railing in the way
. . . you don't mind climbing stairs to your seat - not handicapped accessible
2) Some people don't mind Cat-3.
. . . entertainers still visit the upstairs
. . . the food is not cold
. . . they like viewing down on the stage

Let's face it, whether HDDR, Broadway, or your local live theater, the expensive
seats (eg. Cat-1 at HDDR) are ALWAYS the best. Sure, some like the balcony
at HDDR, but Cat-1 is still the best.

We did cat 3 in '08 and had a really good view, no complaints at all!
This past April we did cat 2 and it was fine but I actually liked cat 3 better. We could see more of the performers in cat 3, the kids had to stand to see anything in cat 2. The seats swivel so it is not a big deal to turn your seat for the show parts :confused3 DD was 6 in '08 and she could see everything just fine. If we ever go back we are doing cat 3 :thumbsup2

Here are 2 photos of cat 3 -

We had a cat 3 several years ago and it was okay, though not great by any means!:scared1: I did book a cat 1 out of pocket for this trip though!:rotfl:

So pretty much, whichever cat you end up with, it will be luck of the draw to whether you have good or bad seats, huh?

HDDR just gets such amazing reviews, and I really think my kids (2, 4, 6) will enjoy it. I just hope they won't be blocked by a pole or anything. Can you hear OK from the balcony?

We are dining deluxe this trip, so I refuse to pay OOP for cat 1, as I don't want to put out any additional money for food (besides tips.)

I had an absolutely wonderful time in Category 3.

Sure, 2 would have been better. so if I were you I'd still keep trying.

But you'll still have a great time and a great meal even if you're not able to get 2.

Unless something has changed on this years dining plan you can use the dining plan for Cat 1 seating for the 9:30pm show only. If you don't mind dining that late that might be your best bet for a better seat. Every time we have done the Hoop Dee Doo we have always done that time and the place has only ever had anyone up on the balcony level once. The other three times everyone fit down on the main floor and even that was not filled up.
