i have a sister in law that has a timeshare in hawaii.we get along with them great.well she emailed me and told me if we want we can a week of her time share at Aloha Kona Billfisher in hawaii..I CANNT belive she would do that for us.well i almost have hubby talked in to going.here the thing she wants to stay at Hale Koa Hotel in ohau in Waikiki.and the billfisher is in island of Hawaii, in the state of Hawaii. what i want to know if going for feb3,2010 to feb13,2010.would be enough time.and how much do you think it cost to fly there and food.neveer been there and would real love to go.:confused3

Not enough info-how many of you are there? where are you flying from? Are you going t Honolulu or Kona? What is DH's rank?

I can tell you this-round trip denver to honolulu in feb 09 is 429 a seat-the cheapest i have seen in 20 years of regular trips to Hawaii

the Hale Koa charges based on rank-Hubby is an e-8-rooms for his pay grade run from 99 to 209 per night depending on location and view.

Food is subjective-are you going to eat out three times a day? cook in the condo? eat at the resterants in the Hale which are cheaper than the economy? We spend an average of 60 a day for two people-but that includes alcohol-and some days we spend 150 if we eat at a nice place and some days 25 or less if we do a beach barbeque at bellows.

You may have lucked out with airfare as there are some pretty good deals to Hawaii right now. $406 r/t with taxes on American from DC and $385 from Chicago.

Where are you traveling from?

Oh whoops, totally missed you are not traveling this February. The earliest fares will be published for February 2010 would be March 2009 or 330 days before departure.

You *should* be able to get a decent deal from Detroit but there is no specific date the best fares will be released. Perhaps register some flights at www.yapta.com to monitor fares.

We want to go to Hawaii for our 25th wedding anniversary in August 2009 and we live near Buffalo, NY. right now the cheapest airfare out of Buffalo is an astounding $850.00 per person RT. They have not gone down at all. However, I have priced the fares out of Toronto, Canada and the fare $610.00 RT. Quite a difference, especially when you multiply it by the 4 people that would be going on the trip. So, when you get to your 330 day mark, be sure to check Canadian airfares, also.

Food is very expensive in Hawaii, even at the grocery store. But the food is fresh and delicious. Go to McDonalds ... it will be the best fast food hamburger you ever tasted as the meat is fresh from the Big Island of Hawaii. :cool2:

I've never been to Hawaii ever....another DIS friend of mine, lmillercrew, was in Hawaii last year and her husband was attacked by a shark. She's writing a PTR right now for their upcoming Disney trip. I'm sure you could stop over to the PTR's and find hers (it's called something like "there are no sharks at WDW so let's go"). She's a sweet person and would help with all of your questions. She's in OH so she'll also have a good idea of costs too.

I also had to add that we moved from Saginaw MI last year. Now we're near Hilton Head Island, SC and love it! So funny to have run across someone else from Saginaw! :goodvibes

Our family of 7 just got back from Hon/Maui in Oct. We paid 842 a ticket to fly out of Kansas CIty and then 60 for the interisland flight.

Yes, things are expensive over there, but I think that is to be expected. You can save $$$ by cooking. We rented a condo, so cooked most meals. Some of the prices I remember were:

Pepsi 12 pk 7.50
Bread 3.00
Lg box Cheerios 8.00
Gallon milk 6.00

As long as you go in expecting things to be a bit higher, I think you will be fine. It's so beautiful and has so many things to offer to get hung up on the little things like the cost of food.

As they say in Hawaii, no rain..........no rainbows.

We when to Maui in 2000 - what a wonderful place! I can't comment on costs since my dh won the trip for work and it was an all expense paid trip! All I wanted to say though is send home pineapple. The pineapple you eat there is so different than what you eat here. We were on a tour and were told that the pineapple that is grown in Hawaii is not sent to the mainland. When we left we had boxes of pineapple sent home for everyone. It sounds silly but so worth it.

For the budget-minded planning a trip to Honolulu, there is a way around these ridiculous prices -- it's called the neighborhood Walmart/Sam's Club/Costco -- all of which are conveniently-located near downtown Honolulu.

I've been to Oahu 3 times and we went to Kauai in March 2008. I LOVED Kauai and will never do Oahu again after seeing what Kauai had to offer. I would however love to see some of the other islands! I have never stayed at the Hale Koa as I was separated from the Navy when I visited the islands, so no info there.

We paid around $350 for adult on Hawaiian Airlines from Sacramento to Kauai (that included the inter-island flight from Oahu to Kauai). I've been looking at fares again for April as we are thinking about going back. I say book early, you can always call if fares go on sale. Kids under 2 fly free if they ride on your lap. My daughter was turning 2, 2 weeks after we went, and we took her as a lap infant. She is a big 2 also, but on the way there we had an extra seat near us! And it wasn't bad on the way back as she would just sit between us and sleep or sit on the ground in front of us and play. Have fun, you definitely HAVE TO GO!

its not going to be much cheaper than this in the summer unless the economy tanks worse-the cheapest time to go to hawaii is between the 15th of october and thanksgiving or between the sunday after thanksgiving and the 15th of December.
yes food is expensive-we always shop in a military commissary or eat out-somedays are cheaper than others-and there are reasonable places to eat if you get out of waikiki and eat local food.
