Just made a reservation at the Mauna Lani on the big island of Hawaii. Just wondering if anyone can share their experience at this resort. What did you do for fun? Where did you eat? Did you rent a car? Luau's? etc. Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

The Mauna Lani is a high quality property. It's 25 or so miles from the airport and is part of a large property, not close to any town. You will need a car unless you plan to only stay at the hotel. The dining at the resort is relatively expensive, so budget accordingly or plan to explore the Big Island and eat off-property. The beach has lounge chairs and attendants. You can see sea turtles. There are extensive grounds with many culturally significant spots to check out as you walk around. There are several private villas that cater to the upper crust and you can get a peak at them if you walk the beach (Celine Dion was in one when we were there). Kona is 30+ miles away, but it is a fun place to spend some time. If you've not been to Volcano Park or to the tropical city of Hilo or to the Parker Ranch area, these would be other alternatives for day trips. Of course, just relaxing on a cabana chair with a book and enjoying the luxury of the resort is a fine way to spend a vacation!
