Ok, since every other state has their own member thread I'm feeling left out! I have an unnerving feeling that this will be a pretty small list... So... Any Hawaii DVC members out there? Represent! :thumbsup2

I don't live in Hawaii (Alabama) but I am glad you started this because I have a question for those of you who live there. We are hoping to come in September or October of '12. We are thinking of doing a week at Aulani and then taking the cruise around the islands to see the other islands. Is that a good time of year to cruise? What is your most "rainy" season or rough sea season (if you even have one). Is there a better time of year to come? We are very flexible with travel time.:surfweb:

@CrazyDuck - I don't think we qualify for your group as we were born and raised in Hawaii, but moved to CA sometime ago. We still make it back every year to visit family and friends. We still like to think of ourselves as Kamaainas though.

@CocosMeme - If you really want to experience the uniqueness of the different neighboring islands, my recommendation would be to skip the cruise and fly and stay on a couple of the islands. I always found it difficult to get a feel for a place via cruise. Staying in a hotel will allow you to do some sightseeing, hiking or snorkeling and not have to worry about getting back to the ship in time.

If you really want to do the cruise, I believe the rainy season is December to April, though it can pretty much rain any time of the year. Hurricane season is June to November.

I've visited the islands enough to know a cruise is NOT the way to see them. I do have preferences though, and they would mostly be Hawaii or Kauai.

I'm going to disagree with Diane :scared1: We cruised on Norwegian for our 35th wedding anniversary, and felt the two days on each of Hawaii, Maui, and Kauai gave us a feel for the different islands. The cruises are port intensive, and there's little time at sea. We visited both Kona and Hilo (got to see lava flow into the ocean at nighttime), had time for the sunrise on Haleakala, luaus on Maui, and tubing the ditch and helicoptering over incredible countryside on Kauai, including the Napoli coast.

I can see that if you only have a week, but I'm more of a "get into it and see the details" kind of person. I figure if I'm going to spend 10 hours on an airplane to get somewhere, then I'm going to stay long enough to get to see and do as much as possible. We tried the "3 islands in a week" thing our first trip too....It was nuts!!!;) That's when we knew we needed to come back and do each island in detail. My last trip was nearly 3 weeks, and even then I wasn't really ready to go home!

Hey you guys hijackin my thread?

Ok... Good start... This list is really takin off.... We got:

- CrazyDuck (me)
- Boscoj

:rolleyes2

lol...that list sure is coming along!!!

US!!!!

We own BLT and SSR! :) And live about 15 miles from Aulani LOL.

I tried this a week or 2 ago and got no responses LOL. There are not many of us!

I'm hoping we will be able to get reservations 7 months out, it would be great to be able to use some of our points.

15 minutes from aulani... That would put you in kapolei with traffic... Or pearl city without... Are you military? Navy since your DH is on a boat? If so then you are probably in Ewa beach or on base!

15 miles not 15 minutes LOL...you know how that traffic is. I'm not out in Ewa, no way LOL. (not that it's bad, just too hot, traffic, etc)

I really would like to live on the beach in Kailua but I'm not done saving up my millions to do so LOL.

I was just looking at yahoo maps...I might be more like 17 miles...

Oops 15 miles... Hahaha that could put you anywhere on the island!

Ok yay 3 of us! :thumbsup2

Yeah, don't want to say exactly where I am, pesky world wide web LOL.

Three lonely Hawaii souls LOL...

So this governor race is crazy this year!

Do you guys think we'll be able to get in at 7 months?

Get in where at 7 months? Aulani? Should be pretty easy. It only the largest DVC property out there. It's also the hardest to get to! I don't see it being too hard to get a rezzie unless you want to go on golden week! The hard one at 7 months will be VGC! Only 50 rooms! Surprised you don't own there... Flying to Cali is much easier and cheaper than going to Florida!

All of our family is East Coast, so we go for a long visit every other year, stay at Disney for a few weeks, have family come down, etc. I wish it was faster to get to the East Coast...the 12 hrs of flying kicks my butt. Though this past year we didn't make it to see them, and had so many points (banked, current use year, etc) that we burned up some at the Grand Wailea. It was AWESOME but a horrible way to use points, wish I would have rented my points and paid cash at the GW LOL!

Wow! This list is on FIRE! Just too many to keep up with!.... We got:

- CrazyDuck (me)
- Boscoj
- rparmfamily

Wow, I thought we had to travel far for DW (west coast)! You guys, all three of you, should win some kind of award.

How many days a year do I have to stay at Aulani to join this exclusive club?
