having soarin' anxiety already

I feel the same way. I have been on it many times, and it feels worse to me each time. I hate the leg dangling thing, and I don't think I am flexible enough to sit cross legged for the whole thing. I hate the swooping, it makes me dizzy. I agree too that a bar in front would make me feel more secure, but I don't see Disney adding one. For most people the swooping feeling is the point of the ride. But it makes me dizzy.

If you don't like it, don't force yourself. Don't be silly like me and end up almost having a panic attack over it. Go get yourself a brownie from Sunshine Seasons and relax.

oooh...do tell???? :cool1:

I call it "trusting gravity a bit too much". I developed some anxiety about driving in mountainous terrain back in '02 and it rears its ugly head sometimes. We were driving down from WA to CA, and as we were going through the passes, even though the driver (sometimes me, sometimes DH) had perfect control of the situation, I kept feeling like gravity was just going to draw us over to the edge of the road and plummet us down. 'cuz gravity controls steering wheels ya know.:3dglasses

If it's important for you to ride, I'm sure over time you'll figure out some tricks to help you. I get a bit nervous during the film sometimes, and I find that being in the middle or bottom helps because seeing the feet reminds me that I'm NOT actually hangliding. And I look to the right and left of me, to remind me that everyone else in there, including 4 year olds is having a great time, no worries, no one is going to fall out. That's my trick.

But if it's not important for you to ride it, then forget it and be happy to not deal with the lines!

Well, over at Universal there's a non-moving section for Jimmy Neutron, and considering just how much movement there is in the regular section, one might wonder "why bother", but there were people lined up to sit there, so....

Or at Disneyland there's the non-submarine viewing room for Finding Nemo where you just watch the movie...

So they certainly *could* have a viewing room, and I'm sure there would be some that would enjoy it.

OT....hello neighbor! :)

I cross my legs and sit Indian style in the seat. My legs dangling makes me nervous. I did better in the top row where I couldn't see feet.

The CMs made DD uncross her legs after getting settled like that. They said it was "unsafe." :confused3

If it makes you feel any better, Soarin is the ONE ride in all of Orlando that DH won't ride. He has no problems at all on much scarier rides such as Forbidden Journey, the giant coasters, etc.... Something about Soarin just freaks him out. The one time he rode it he turned as white as a sheet and I thought he was going to faint. He will happily be skipping Soarin on all future trips. If it gives you stress, don't ride it. Although I love Soarin, there are rides that I will never ride again. I don't let it bother me. There's lots of fun for everyone. :thumbsup2

I have a terrible fear of heights, the first time I rode it back in 2006 I think I stopped breathing , had my eyes closed almost the entire time with my head burried in my friends shoulder, I was terrified but we were in the first row.
2009 I did not go on but waited for the rest of my party.
Someone suggest to me not to ride in front so I think I am going to give it another shot on my trip in October, I so want to see what all the hype is about this ride and enjoy it too. Now I just hope I do not chicken out when the time comes.

I know ...I feel like I"m going to fall OUT of the seat though. It's irrational, it's silly, but I just can't ride it. :(

Yes it is silly and irrational!!!!! And I'm right there with you! I just don't ride. I wait while the family rides, been banned actually as they don't like to ride it with me holding them back for dear life:lmao:

Sunshine Seasons has the BEST browines at WDW. I am much happier having one and relaxing than I am on Soarin.:goodvibes

well then...this seems to be a perfectly perfect option!!! thank you!!!!

Are you comparing soarin to a motion oddessy ride? I don't even think the two are in the same category. Nor do I think it makes sense to compare it to a ride that not all people can get on. In both cases it seems to make sense to have alternatives for people who can not ride. Soaring on the other hand is wheelchair accessable and doesn't have the same limitations as motion oddessy rides.

It's no big deal really. Some people can't ride Mission Space because of Heart Conditions, or what used to be Body Wars because of back problems or not able to eat turkey legs because they are obviously straight from the devils kitchen. There is absolutely no need to ride something if you cannot enjoy it.

We all know that phobias are not rational. I know someone that is quite large and is deathly afraid of ants. There is no controlling the brain completely. Those of us that do not have problems with that are quick to point out how "silly" it is to be afraid of those things because we don't feel those particular emotions, but I'll bet that if one were to explore far enough we would find their Achilles heal easily enough.

I can't help but feel sorry for folks that have to miss out on so many things due to irrational fears, but some of them are just too tough to concur. So, don't worry, be happy. Let the rest go wildly flying over the state of California and you find something that will make you happy.

Personally, I can't ride Space Mountain due to a fear of not being able to get up out of the ride vehicle and them having to bring a crane in to lift me out. To my knowledge it has never happened to anyone and I do not want to be the first.

I think the only other thing I'm really afraid of is ferris wheels... go figure right?

We were just at WDW for our fifth trip (fourth since Soarin' was installed) and we just found out that our 13 yo, who first went on Soarin' when he was 8, doesn't like this ride! I think he felt ok confessing this to DH and me because his older sister wasn't on this trip. He was willing to go on it once a day. He wore the child strap and said that he preferred the 2nd and 3rd rows for the reasons mentioned on this thread. I wish he would have told us before, poor kid!
