But why should italian food in italy be the same as what we eat here?
This isn't italy and I'd guess that most americans, especially most americans that go to Disney, wouldn't like Italy's italian food no matter how good it is to the citizens of italy.
I would also think that any 'american food' that a restaurant in any other country serves wouldn't taste the way we think it should (again, why would it) and would hate to think of an american in that country making fun of the people there who were eating it.
I still think its bad ( and kind of stupid) that the waitstaff would make fun of anyone in Italian..especially when you consider that like you there are going to be customers that speak the language.
OK!! I am not orginally from Italy like Mare's husband, but most of my family is. We have alot traditional dishes my family eats that you would never find in an Italian restaurant, but we eat alot of the basic Italian cuisine that everyone eats.
I don't know what the waitstaff would make fun of, but alot of the food in Italy is like here in NY. Maybe not vodka sauce (its Italian American I guess) and many other things, but its pretty close, especially in NYC!! But I have to agree with M&P most people in WDW would like or appreciate authentic Italian food.
We'll have to agree to disagree Mare.
I think these particular Italians sound even dumber now. Its ok to make fun of someone because they didnt order their food by the right name and instead had to describe it? I just dont see the humor in that...especially when they think the food is so bad where they work...you would think they would agree with that customer that the food was just 'noodles in white sauce'
Once again, I have to agree with M&P, I wouldn't find the humor in any restaurant if I was being made fun of.
Let me just tell you, I don't speak Italian fluently, but I understand it very well. We ate in Tutto Italia last year and didn't hear anything disrepectful. I ordered in English and ask the server what he suggested, everything was very good. Once again, maybe not as great as one of our favorite local Italian restaurants, but it was very good.
Mare I am sorry you had such a weird experience, but its not always like that. Italian is hard to eat out in restaurant away from home, for us at least.
I am probably not going to have time to come visit again today, I have to get up at 4:00 am. My DS procedure day is finally here, we have to be in the Bronx by 6:30. My mom is sleeping over, so she can come with us tomorrow and drive me home for my DD. I'll keep everyone posted as soon as I can.
