Simple question: how many kids out there attending school in person have managed to stay covid free?

So, my answer is a bit odd. My 17 y/o did get covid March 2022 but it was not while at school. During March Break he had some friends over to play D&D on a Friday. One friend tested + the following Tuesday and DS plus one other friend tested + on the Wednesday. He has been in person at school since September 2020.

Strangely enough, DH was at a conference that same week from Tues-Fri, coming home the same day DS had his friends over. DH tested + the next day (Saturday), as did 2 coworkers who also attended the conference. So, DH and DS both got Covid at almost the exact same time but from two totally different sources. I banished DH to the basement and DS to his room. By doing this, I was able to avoid getting sick!

My now 7 year old got it in March of last year. 10 year old never got it and neither did my wife or I.

I know a lot of people who haven’t had it. One being my sister who works in a hospital.

I usually get a couple of upper respiratory infections a year. I haven't had a cold, sore throat or fever since 2019, so mom was right. Washing your hands and using hand sanitizer is critical. And masks and social distancing clearly haven't hurt.

No kids of my own in school, although I have a 6 year old niece in all day K, and she was in 3 times per week pre-school last year. No Covid for her, and her Mother is a nurse so she is tested quite frequently.
Both my BIL & SIL have had mild cases at same time, but my niece never caught it from them even though they figured she would since she was in same house and home with them.
It's a weird bug for sure.

All of us had it last holiday season with Omi. I had the mildest case (barely a runny nose, boosted 14 days prior to exposure), dd had mild cold symptoms, dh had it the worst.

So far, out of 7 of us only 1 has had Covid.

Son had it in college in Jan 2021. Daughter in college has not gotten it.

We are vaxxed and boosted. Once vaccinated, we relaxed precautions.

We've traveled and haven't worn masks daily in a year. I did wear one when we flew in September, but that was it.

We are all living life as normal pre pandemic.

Our 6 year old granddaughter had Covid back in November of 2021. We all went to WDW in October and none of us got it. She goes back to school and about a month later gets it from a kid in her class whose dad had it but thought it would still be ok to send his kid to school. 🙄 7 other kids got it too out of a class of 18. They don’t wear masks at school.

No kids, but I'm a teacher and have avoided Covid so far. We went back in person in March of 2021, but masked/social distanced until March of 2022. This school year has been totally "Normal" as far as masks/spacing/etc. We have had quite a few kids with Covid over the last 2 years, but so far I have avoided it.

I don't have a school-ager anymore but my 7yo niece hasn't had it yet...even with both parents having it at different times.

As far as I know, none of our family of 4 have had it. DS13 and DD10 have not masked in school since March. Both had a nasty upper respiratory thing with fever this fall, negative for COVID and flu though.

We’ve had some other colds over the last 2 years, but I’m not an over tester, I’ll home test once, but that’s it. We had a few known exposures early on that we got PCR testing to reduce quarantine requirements but negative results and we haven’t had those sort of requirements in quite a while.

So long story, no COVID here that we are aware of.

My son got Covid early this school year. I got it 4 days later. My husband avoided it until just after Christmas. Our daughter in college has avoided it so far and she’s exposed to lots of people in her job and through school. All of us are vaccinated and boosted.

In our family of 4, I am the only one who has had it. One of my daughters is in high school and the other University. I had a mild case in September. Whole family is vaccinated and booster and we haven’t been wearing masks in many months.

We stayed covid-free until August 2022. I decided to wait two months to get the kids boosted until before school started--not smart. We took a trip to an out of town zoo at the start of August and brought home covid. The kids and I had mild cases and DH was asymptomatic but positive.

We went back to in-person in August 2020 and masks were mandatory as were vaccines when they became available.

I retired for the third time at the end of May 2021. DH is still teaching in the same school. I do volunteer once a week in the school.

The mask and vaccine requirements were dropped January 2022 but many students and staff still mask. DH and I also have all boosters, including the bivalent booster which is required by the hospital we volunteer at.

The Monday after Thanksgiving break, DH was helping a student in his class who was throwing up in the trash can. His student teacher was standing there as well. Neither DH nor his student teacher were wearing masks, which is highly unusual for DH.

On Thursday that week, DH came home and said his allergies were really bad because of the wind and dust we were getting. Jokingly he said he was going to test for COVID. The test line turned positive before the liquid hit the control line. He texted his student teacher and she tested positive as well. All the kids around the trash can also tested positive by the end of the weekend (about 5 or 6 DH said).

Despite locking DH in the basement and throwing him food once in a while, I tested positive the following Monday. DH had the bad cold case of COVID. I had the kill me now version with 103 temp for 5 days and I got a sinus infection that turned into bronchitis. I told him next time to bring me chocolate home instead of COVID.

He is the last teacher at the school to get COVID.

My kids wear masks but in my then 2nd grader's class of like 17 kids, 15 ended up with Covid within a 12 day period that just happened to coincide with the schools deciding everyone could go back and eat in the cafeteria again rather than spacing them out 🙄 . It absolutely wiped that class out and we all ended up getting it because of that. My kids are really, really good at masks and hand washing but it just ripped through that classroom and grade. I think that was omicron because it wasn't showing up positive on tests until the 5th day, so everyone just kept sending their kids to school because the only symptom was a sore throat and the tests were negative. It was a nightmare.

I'm pretty sure we all also had OG covid in Feb/March of 2020. It was so early on that they didn't really have a test for it and were only really looking into it if you'd been to China. I nearly died and had exhaustion for months afterwards, it was awful. Thankfully both times the kids barely had any symptoms. Sudden fevers that would go away and sore throats, they were back to themselves within 48 hours. I worry about lasting damage we won't know about for years though.

Husband and I are vaxxed and have had one booster. Kids had initial vaccination - I don’t intend to ever get them boosted. We’ve all had it once at different times. Fewer symptoms than a cold. I worry more about possible vaccine side effects for my kids down the road. Hopefully nothing will crop up.

Now that you all have had covid, how will you know that whatever long term effects you might experience are not from the virus itself?

Myself a teacher, my daughter grade 4, and son grade 10, just got covid right before Christmas break. I got it first and passed it through the entire house. I did indeed feel like a unicorn going this long without. We were lucky with mild cases, and hope we are “safe” for a while now!
