Hi

Just booked a holiday next August to Orlando with direct holidays which are owned by My Travel, but I noticed that our flight from Cardiff is going to be operated by Monarch Airlines. Any body had any experience of this airline as I have never flown with them before.

 :wave2:

Hi

This is who we have booked our upcoming trip with.

If its the same as flying out of Newcastle you seem to only fly out with Monarch and back on a MyTravel plane.
This will be the first time we have flown with Monarch.

We use the Monarch Crown scheduled service to fly to the Algarve. It's a very good service - food, staff, aircraft all very good.
I would expect good things from their transatlantic service.

Hi Florida Sun,

We flew out with Monarch in 2002 from Newcastle, so bear in mind our experience is a few years old!
We had very similar experiences to Allie5 (link thread), in so far as 'It was a tiny plane that had to stop for fuel in Bangor, Maine, and Seatback TVs were probably not invented then!! '

We were unfortunate to have seats that backed onto the toilets (so they didn't recline fully). The entertainment was a big screen at the front, which we had problems seeing.

However, we took a book and 'Toy Story UNO', so we passed the time ok.

Personally, I wouldn't travel transatlantic with them again unless I had heard more recent favourable comments.

Sorry to sound so negative. But remember it was 2 years ago and we still had an excellent holiday.

Just to put a bit more of a merry spin on things- in the linked thread the type of planes mentioned which are now operated are the same type as I had when flying with Thomas Cook and had the afforementioned seat back tellys!- And unless I missed something (which is hardly likely since the day I can get to sleep on a plane is the day planes dont fly) we didnt have to stop for refuelling! :D And to make things better the plane seemed to put on a bit of a spurt and only take about 9hrs instead of the 9 and three quarter hours I had been used too!

I think I flew to Spain with Monarch when I was about 15 :)

Was it owned by Horizon Holidays then?

Monarch have only had the two long haul planes since 1999 but my knowledge doesnt extend to the in flight entertainment . I would hope they have had some sort of refit to have seat back screens by now. Give them a ring and find out. My experience of Monarch has only been positive.
