Have you taken sewing classes?

Hi Everyone

I bought a really nice sewing machine a few years ago with all the accessories, bag, etc. I spent a couple months "trying" to sew, got frustrated and the lovely tapestry bag it's in became something to pile stuff on.

Has anyone taken sewing classes anywhere? I am SO inept at stuff like this, I'm sure I'll be a slow learner with it. Where did you go, did it help??

I took a sewing class for my serger, which is a different type of sewing machine. It was great. I'm so glad I took it. I had taught myself to sew with my regular machine by reading books, and now I wish I had taken classes instead. I'd do it now, but I'm afraid that I'd be bored to tears for most of the class.

Really nice machines usually come with free or low cost sewing instruction, if you bought it at a sewing machine store (and not someplace like Hancock Fabrics or online). Even if you do have to pay full price, I would strongly advise it. You'll probably get a lot out of it.

You could also try your parks & recreation department or community college "adult education" classes.

I was just thinking about this recently. I took sewing lessons...about 35 years ago. It was at a Singer store. Lately, I've been dying to get back to sewing. I used to make my DDs holiday dresses, but haven't sewn in years. Yesterday, I stopped in a fabric store and just wandered around looking. One of these days, I'll have to find something to make.

I took tailoring in college ( just wish I had more time to sew now ). If you have a Jo-Ann's fabric store near you check to see if they offer sewing classes.
